What do you think SAMTZU?Rian Jackson wrote: here's an uncomfortable question: do you want to just leave it open to whoever, or set a cut off date for people to 'join' or what? i'm just thinking about planning and numbers and dynamics and the increased thread traffic in the summer....
We need to work on a plan. And since you were the first one to actually take this serious. We do need to get an idea on numbers. Talk to me.

I agree... we do need a cutoff date... but it is too soon right now to pick one. Some time after the first of the year, when we see who has come on board, who wants to contribute, and who is able... then we can begin to assign various assignments. Right now (still less than twenty-four hours from when we started this) is too soon to make this decision.
Let Sun Tzu be our master in this. In business, as in war, it is foolish to move too soon. Lets let the armies assemble first.

Does this mean more brain storming?
I dread to bring up the next practical item--food. I nominate "Salty Bar Snacks for all--No Kitchen." But that's how I tend to eat on playa anyway I can scrounge my hidden sources if I get desparate.
A seminar on misspelling and typos.
Giant key board art car.
Someone should choreograph our own dance. How many camps have there own dance. (No, I don't count the Thunderdome Stomp.)

I got it: Groupies!!!!
A gaggle of airheads in short skirts (where are you Rob the Wop?) carrying pompoms and randomly attaching themselves to persons or departments or camps or art cars or dust devils and declaring them the next big thing. With much giggling.

BTW--I gotta go, can you keep an eye on the bar for a while? If any deliveries come just sign " Tony Blair" and the English pay for them.

Once again, Stuart comes through with sage advice. Between the announcement and the sale is perfect... and I hadn't planned on any food at all at the Bar... except for the gallon jar of pickled mysteries that Fishy and Woodrow had their adventure in....stuart wrote:i think a good cutoff is sometime between the ticket announcement and when tickets go on sale.
food, eliminate this massive potential for drama and have everyone fend for themselves. Radical self reliance starts at home (or in camp as it were).

Hey, if someone wants to have some sort of a feeding time, they are welcome to do it, but I think everyone should be ready for the possibility that food will be a fend for yourselves thing. =)stuart wrote: food, eliminate this massive potential for drama and have everyone fend for themselves. I think keeping this thing simple is going to make it work a lot smoother and easier. We all go to BM, for the most part, aware that you better bring whatever you might need - just in case. We should probably keep this in place. The entertainment, comfort accessories, etc. that is what we need to focus on. Same way as water, condoms, the other essentials.

Hi gang, Doc Pyro here. If I may interject, there is already what was originally an eplaya camp, but is now actually a village, Wheeeee!ville which Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro along with six other camps are part of. And we are anxious to host our third Meet N Greet this upcoming year (hope you can make it Stuart). Have you considered rather than a camp, joining the village if logistically possible? Now I am not "in charge", as if anyone is at Burning Man (you may as well be herding cats) and most of our posters are over on Trey's 3playa site and just kind of lurk here (including yours truly because our filters at work won't let me access the Burning Man website, bastards). But my point is, why reinvent the wheel? With BDC&WB, Smite Camp, Donut Love, and all of the rest, maybe we could work out a solution that everybody benefits. There are about 150 people in our village (2004 census), we take up essentially an entire city block, are already well known, and have the experience of putting together something of this nature already. I just am a bit surprised this suggestion hasn't come up yet. It will be awhile before I can answer this, but if you'd like to e-mail me with your ideas, try [email protected] and I will get back to you. YMMV.

oohh...SHIT!! the fish..THE FISH!! is cracking my ass up!!! LOL, baby!!!
whew!
okay - so here's what i bring to the table...bartending (of course), ability to organize/figure out all kinds of shit, theatrical production experience (ie, set building, lighting, impromtu fixits - really good at id'ing a problem and best use of resources at hand to solve it) and a goddess-given flair for mediation.
i also cook up a mean tofu-veggie stir-fry on the playa. just once.
and i expect foot rubs in return.

Maybe... I think we should still keep our own camp's identity. Even if it is next door to, or even a part of, another village. What are the thoughts on this people?samtzu wrote:Doc... good... your watching... I'll email you one this. I think the idea of joining forces is great... watch for my email...

If you're going to lose your 'identity', I can't think of a finer group than Wheeee!ville to lose it to... Seriously, this makes a ton of sense to Sensei.tonytohono wrote:... Speaking of tickets, does anyone have advice for getting them? I remember hearing people saying the cheapest ones sell out within hours. I'll be ordering on-line, or I could do it by phone if that's a better way.
Last year I waited patiently for some cheapies to come up on the eplaya and nabbed them. I want cheapies next time too...although at the rate our Canadian dollar is soaring they all might be cheap next year.
I promise I will bring some Fireball whiskey for the bar next year. I now know that it isn't in the US. You will like it. Hmm, I may also try for some absinthe too, which will have to be for special times only as it's about $70 a bottle.
I probably won't be camping at the eplaya camp- sounds like we will have little Kootenay again- but I will be a hanger outer. I can be a good groupie too if needed. Oh and I have the pirate thing all wrapped up- wasn't there talk about pirates a while ago? I won't be as deathly...

I kind of like the idea of building this thing up, from the ground up, so to speak... but what do I know? I'm not sure if I want to get lost in some huge camp with 150 people, where our personalities are lost through absorbtion.
But if it is the only way it will work... well, I'm thinking our camp is already morphing into something I, for one, need to reaccess. I need more details. I guess I'll have a look at that site and see if the fuel is already flaring out.

More stuff to consider;
E-playa being a part of and provided by the official Burning Man organization site an argument could be made for working in concert with the org. possibly in relation or proximity of the information center installation in center camp.
E-playa camp could also be a perfect place to base newbie indoctrination activities from. I can't remember who was spearheading that stuff or know if they would be interested but we're brainstorming here.
One of the positives things about trying to fit into that niche would be the possibility of being on the power grid. Potentially some funding to offset some of the expense. As a center point for the newbie indoctrination effort a close proximity to information where people can sign up to volunteer would be good. Last I heard they were only thinking about one or two special events of gathering newbies so it wouldn't necessarily take over the camp.
