Virgins from Grand Junction, CO

Post by happywanderer » Tue Dec 23, 2014 1:51 pm

There is a group of 7 of us - all virgins that will hopefully (depending on tickets) be hitting the event in 2015. Not planning on joining a theme camp just gonna camp together and learn as much as possible our first year.
I have been reading and keeping a notebook of ideas and plans for about 6 months but I'm sure over the next 9 months I'll be hitting the board up for lots of wisdom.
I've wanted to experience BM for more than 10 years now - I'm truly psyched that it's finally happening.

Welcome to Eplaya.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Indeed. What's your most fantastic hope? and your biggest fear?

My biggest fear is that it won't be what I've built it up to in my mind. I love being around people and meeting new people but I can be a little shy. I'm looking forward to a really outgoing community. I want to meet lots of people and make lots of friends. Dance. Make lots of bad decisions.

I've done lot's of fun and challenging things in my life so I'm really not worried about the preparation or being able to take care of myself.

Ah the fear of it "not being what I thought it was gonna be"

The anxiety can be almost as bad as that experienced during the FOMO (fear of missing out) situations.

I'll admit I've got the same hesitations and reservations of the dreaded "what if".

But ya know what. I'm Hella reserved (not shy). I embarrass easily. I over analyze, over research (no such thing :-) ), prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
Plus have an irrational fear of clowns...fuck clowns...and spiders.

If you plan to be the best version of yourself on the playa you'll probably do just fine.

I truly believe the playa CAN provide the experience you and your mates are going for.

I think it comes down to moderation, expectation and opportunity.

If you're open to opportunity with minimal hesitation when it arises I think you'll have an amazing time.

If you're more reserved and need to see the big picture before committing to engaging then I would consider moderation of expectations to avoid disappointments.

And really....a healthy dose of the two is probably recommended.

I can only imagine how excited you are
Cuz I know how excited I am :-P
Hope to see you in the dust!

Best advice I've heard is:
drop your plans and any expectations, inhibitions, and prejudices. perhaps, your pants.

welcome and good luck

Happywanderer and crowd, Welcome! Don't worry about your expectations. It won't be anything like you expect. Much, much better. Hang around and pick our brains.

Welcome! If you haven't already, you might want to check out Apogaea (the Colorado regional burn) as well. It's the second weekend in June. http://www.apogaea.com

Great idea. I would definitely check out Apogaea if I were you, happywanderer! The pictures look like a carnival in the woods. There seems to be a decent number of Colorado Burners, for sure.
