What happens if you get tickets and no vehicle pass?

Burning Man has reduced the total number of vehicle passes by over 20% for 2015. What happens if you get tickets, but can't get a vehicle pass? Do you just end up having to sell your tickets because you can't go?

The general sale has 40,000 tickets, but only 12,000 vehicle passes. Assuming most will buy the maximum of two tickets that means each ticket buyer only has a 50% chance of getting a vehicle pass.

It seems at some point that vehicle passes will be even more valuable than the entry tickets as the number of vehicle passes are reduced. My fear is you won't be able to find a vehicle pass at any price.

With 27,000 vehicle passes they expect each vehicle to average about 2.6 people per vehicle if they sell 70,000 tickets. For the general sale they are only offering 12,000 vehicle passes so they expect each vehicle to have 3 1/3 people on average. That seems like a lot based on what I read here.

Remember, the number of passes on offer is not less than the number of passes used this year. I think that people who ended up paying $40 for nothing will be less willing to do so again. I think they should have provided more wiggle room, but I don't think there's any reason to panic about scarcity now.

You gotta think like a racer... take full advantage of the wording of the rules.
It says towed vehicles don't need a pass... So if you have two vehicles in your group and only one pass, rent a tow dolly, and just before the gate put one on the dolly and pull it in!

Haven't heard that report, but if true, it might not apply this year as there are a whole lot less passes available this year.

Are you saying that only 27,000 of the 35,000 vehicle passes available last year actually got used? I know the organizers want more people to use the buses, but you're really limited on what you can bring on the bus.

I'll be entering with all my camping stuff in my little car, plus that of two others who will be on the Burner Express, their food and water included. Though I'm only one person in the car, it's all we need for three. So, I'll ignore the sneers from those who think I'm being greedy with my vehicle pass... I have an ulterior motive here!

No one should be judging you for only having one person in your car. A small car's worth of stuff is merely a well-prepared camp without any major structures, let alone room for art or other non-survival objects. The idea that we should always have three people per car is total BS. Participation, art, and contribution often requires craploads of stuff. Putting a social stigma on solo drivers means that solo artists are discouraged and large established camps with resources for big transportation are encouraged.

Last year I brought two burgins who needed to get tickets from the will call, which was pure hell for me since I had my ticket. During our 3 hour wait in the hot sun there were people everywhere trying to sell vehicle passes. I didn't need one but if I did, now I know where to start . . . . will call waiting area.

You know, if I had a friend who couldn't get a vehicle pass, I could buy an in/out pass, drive back out in my truck and empty trailer after unloading the M/V, and carry them back in!
If you were really hard up for a pass, you could rent a car trailer from You-Howl, pull it behind you empty, then put your vehicle up on it and then beg/bribe a tow through the gate.
