Places in Reno that will accept shipments.

Post by omegared » Mon Jan 05, 2015 5:08 am

Does anyone know of any places in Reno that will accept shipments of gear? Let me explain... I'm planning on purchasing some gear over the internet (shade structure, kitchen, table, etc.) and having it shipped to somewhere in Reno for use on the playa. I would just buy it in Reno but some things (shade sturcture in particular) I'm not really sure will be available and I don't want to risk not having it. Traveling with this gear would be impractical as I will be flying in. Getting the gear out of Reno won't be a problem as I will be getting a storage unit in Reno and leaving a large portion of the gear I'm bringing in Reno for future use. I know some hotels will accept small shipments for guests, but not really sure how MUCH they will accept.

When I fly in, I've stayed in the Homewood Suites on Kietzke. I have shipped big boxes, both from home and direct from Amazon with no problem. It's always nice, though, to give the hotel a call first.

First year, Sands had no problem accepting a bunch of boxes.

Also, the UPS Store on Keystone accepts shipments for burners, I believe.

I had a campmate who shipped a couple small things to the Sands last year, so I know they will accept at least SMALL things if you're staying with them. Will have to call them and see how much they will accept. Thanks for the info.

Any of the UPS Stores will accept shipments. $5 per.
Word is, avoid the Keystone UPS. Reasons were posted in the past. Posts may still exist.

Good to know.

Also, I know our storage facility in Fernley also accepts shipments if you rent there.

I dont know what reasons someone may want to avoid the Keystone UPS but I'd give them a call and ask if they accept shipments. I was in there not long ago. Lovely people and they work with burners. New management perhaps?
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

Book your storage unit and see if they will accept your shipments. We have a unit at Linden Storage (the one in Reno not the one in Arizona where I nearly shipped our stuff  ). This is particularly good if you're getting big stuff that might be annoying for a hotel to store.

If you have big stuff that is well packaged (crated) on a pallet (or several), you could send it by freight truck, also know as LTL truck. (LTL = Less Than Truckload.) This is generally freight that requires a fork-lift to move. Among the big names in LTL freight are Roadway and Yellow Freight, and I think FedEx has an LTL service now. Check your local Yellow Pages. And find out if they have their own terminal in Reno/Sparks.

Freight / LTL carriers are accustomed to holding freight for pickup at the terminal. Of course, you would telephone them and let them know when you will be there for your Stuff.
