Re: Insomnia
Bumped because I'm up every fucking night at about 4.
5 HTP doesn't make you sleepy, it makes the monsters in your head quiet down so you can think straight. YMMV. I do holosync, so my sleeping patterns are deeper and this nightly being awake doesn't last long. It's just WTF am I going to do at 4 in the morning? I know: I'll do a search of "insomnia" and see what comes up.
And for the record, if you're having sleep problems at BM, wear earplugs. And try to keep to a regular schedule, you might think your defaultia sleep patterns don't apply there, but they do.
I sleep just fine. And yes, it's noisy, get over it.
In defaultia, taking melatonin regularly isn't a good idea, it makes need to take it in order to sleep. That's why I'm a fan of nightly meditation. Sure, sometimes I fall asleep before I'm finished, but hey isn't that the point? And I can turn on the recording at any time and I'm out. I even recommended to my doctor for her insomnia patients.
My cat isn't happy about me being awake. Tough shit, she sleeps 16 hours a day.

I don't have a problem with insomnia so much as just not going the fuck to bed when I should. Like right now...

Re: Insomnia
The TV and a glass of cabernet puts me right to sleep. I just turn on old episodes of Law & Order that I've seen a million times, set the sleep timer to turn the tv off in 1/2 hour and I'm out like a light. On the rare occasions this doesn't work, or I find myself waking up in the night, a canibus brownie works wonders. (legal and medically prescribed, of course)

Re: Insomnia
Insomnia sucks. No two ways about it. But if there's one week during the year that I can't sleep, I want it to be at TTITD.

I tend to wake up between 3&5 every night. The worse thing you can do is turn on the light, so I try to keep all light sources at a minimum, even stumbling in the dark to go to the loo. I seem to get back to sleep easier.

Yes I've done this a time or two. It's a real eye opener and hurts like a bitch

Heck yes. I just smoke a little medicinally-prescribed indica dominant if I can't sleep and it usually knocks me right out in a way that it doesn't if I was to inhale or ingest it during waking hours.Elderberry wrote:, or I find myself waking up in the night, a canibus brownie works wonders. Re: Insomnia
I've seen some somewhat recent articles about the particularly negative effects of 'blue' light from cellphones/computer monitors on sleep. Might be good to keep that use to a minimum or not at all near bedtime?robbidobbs wrote:I tend to wake up between 3&5 every night. A few years back, when I was having TERRIBLE time getting to sleep and staying asleep (stress, mostly), I tried all the usual melatonin/kava/benadryl solutions and none worked. I finally talked to my doctor and they prescribed trazodone. It actually worked very well in putting me to sleep, but it didn't really 'knock me out' until morning. I started off with the prescribed dose, and after a couple weeks of getting good sleep, and feeling better, I was able to start taking half-doses, and even skipping it outright. After about a month I was able to sleep without not taking it at all. The downsides were that it left me a little groggy in the mornings, as well as making my eyes a bit red (though since I had been having sleeping issues, I already had them on a regular basis). A plus was that it was very inexpensive and was a simple pill before bed (with a little food, if possible, it works better).
At BM, I used earplugs during my sleep sessions, the Leight Max are awesome. But by the third day my sleep sessions had become roughly 4pm-7pm/5am-8am/12pm-1pm, rather than one large one as in defaultia, so maybe it's different for different people.
I can't help it, I'm a born lever-puller.

Re: Insomnia
I wake up in the early morning also. I try to keep off the screens before bedtime. I was prescribed Ambien while I was taking Tamoxifen, but that just made me crazy. Now, menopause.
I gave up. I get up and make coffee. I take a nap in the afternoon. Not ideal. I have a Happy Light, nice in winter.

Re: Insomnia
That's right, just start your day early and catch up later. Naps are a good thing. I can't sleep during the day, but I am learning that my sleep patterns aren't going to change because I "will" them to, I can only remain calm and let whatever is the case be ok.

Re: Insomnia
Getting up in the middle of the night isn;t necessarily a bad thing. Apparently the whole "8 hours uninterrupted" is a modern myth and back in the day it was quite common for people to get up in the middle of the might and do things and then go back to bed for their "second sleep"
