How fast is the Pre-Sale supposed to be sold out

Post by jennturner » Fri Jan 16, 2015 12:30 pm

Hi out there,
since last year I have not been lucky getting tickets. This year I want to try the Pre-Sale. Therefore I want to ask if anyone knows how fast Pre-Sale Tickets have been sold out last year ? I can't find any information about it in the Internet. Does anybody know it? Thanks in advance for your answers.

i dont think they sold anywhere near as fast as regular tix but to make sure and if you have the funds, jump on it as soon as they go on sale. Every year is different so to hedge my bets I'd jump on it asap

The thing is, last year nobody knew that all the regular sale tickets would sell out in 45 minutes, leaving plenty out in the cold. Reflecting on that, I am sure that the pre-sale tickets are going to go fast as everyone hedges their options and tries to make sure they get their ticket this year. There will be little correlation between how fast pre-sale tickets sold last year compared to this year.

Assuming that will be the go-to place for the big PnP camps to get their tickets, I'd also assume that would increase demand.

The mental model that the tickets sell out in 45 minutes is probably not the best. Another way to think about it is that they are all reserved in under 10 seconds, but it takes 45 minutes to work through the orders.

You are sitting in your browser at say 2 minutes before sale time connected to the Ticketfly BM site. At some point, likely the exact time they are scheduled to go on sale, the servers start accepting people into the queue. Maybe you are refreshing your browser often. They have a more spots than ultimate orders. Then buyers in the queue are processed in the order received. Once they sell out, everyone left in the queue gets a :( .

So you want to get into the ticket queue within seconds of the go live time. Last time I tried, I got in the queue within a minute, waited for 35, and the tickets were sold out before I got through the line. For 4000 tickets, it could be 10-15 minutes. Your mobile phone is going to have an accurate time to know when to start. If you are on mobile, don't be driving and lose a connection. You would then have to start over - sure fail.

Ticketfly has plenty of servers, what takes time is each person getting to the checkout stand and filling out all the info. They may many checkouts, but one line in effect.

Best of fortune to all in getting your golden ticket!

What Some Seeing Eye said.
I would hop on them as soon as they go on sale. Last year I think it took a week, this year I would be surprised if it takes 30 minutes.

Thanks, that was the information I was looking for. Even if I know that there is no guarantee that it is the same this year. If you have to book flights and stuff it is quite crucial to get tickets as early as possible. Otherwise it won't be affordable for me.

I wish all of you luck and hope to maybe see you on the playa. :D

On my purchase page at the top left is the ticketfly button to log on with them also. I am guessing that it might be a good thing to both log on to the Burner Profile and the ticketfly account before noon... wait, I mean, it would be a good thing to just kick it for a couple hours and come back to see if my ticket purchase went as planned.

I recommend literally kicking your laptop for 2 hours starting now. I'm sitting in my office trying to put out "leave me alone, I'm going to be intent on this for a while" vibes. My luck somebody will come by with a question at 11:59:59

Alright well once again ticketfly seems to be dropping the ball, for me anyway. Tried with 4 different credit cards, none worked. Called my bank and apparently they have approved the transaction all 6 times I tried it, so I don't know wtf is going on.

Actually, it wasn't ticketfly's fault I don't think... once again the inscrutable Borg has set things up in such a way to cause maximal panic.

The stupid AVS system that they use is severely limited if you have any kind of problem. The way the BMOrg has set it up, ticketfly does not have access to the transaction information, so if it doesn't go through, and everything is correct with your bank, sorry, you're fucked. Why they set it up this way I do not know, considering the Org has limited resources to respond to ticketing problems in a timely fashion. Ticketfly support staff explained that they usually WOULD be able to help, but not the way this particular sale is set up. I finally got it to go through by trying every address I've ever lived at as long as I've held a credit card, and one of them is somehow still linked to a 10+ year old address as far as AVS is concerned. So, anyway. Whee, I got tickets. I'll expect phone calls from the security departments at every card I own now, due to the repeated suspicious activity with incorrect address information.

I'm amazed that I got in right at launch and got my tickets without a problem! I'm even more surprised that tickets are still available 4.5 hours after the opening. Dude in my office just scored 4 of them!

It is encouraging to see, definitely. Maybe the main sale won't sell out in 10 seconds again this year and there won't be so many stranded burners along the road. The $800 tag is enough to keep a lot of people away though I guess. Even if one plans on scalping the tickets, it's tough to recoup with a buy price that high. I'm happy for all the people who needed to be in the presale but couldn't be online at exactly noon.

As I recall it took a few days last year for the pre-sales to sell out. I fully expect a frothing panic at the main sale!

So I read all the posts I thought would be relevant but I still haven't see if the pre-sale tickets actually sold out & if so when. This is more of a gee-whiz question than anything else. I know some people had issues & it seemed like they sold out right away, but that wasn't actually the case for most. Anyone know for sure?

When you go to tickets.burningman.org the button is still hot. This indicates either tickets or vehicle passes are still available.

I bit. We saved all year to buy presale tickets. Admittedly, the price hike was a shock, but we made it work. I admit I felt a pang at the price. I am not sure what a pang is, but it describes what I felt. Now I am basking in the calm of knowing I'm going, and not having to deal with the ticket scramble. Even if there is not a ticket scramble (maybe the weather last year put people off?) I have helped some low income ticket people. I've made my peace.

Looks like you're right, the presale ticket link is gone for me too. Pretty surprised at how long it took for them to sell out, if this is in fact the case.

Hmmmmmm. 4,000 presale tix at $800.00. 4,000 low income tickets at $190.00. Works out to $990 total. Divide by two equals $495.00 average ticket price. So the idea that one pays for the other is a bit off in that one pays for other and THEN some. Or at least that's my perception. Am I missing something?

Considering that the BMOrg and Larry & Co. are nothing more than vampires who, instead of sucking blood, suck money from the good denizens of Black Rock City, I'm frankly surprised they even bother with "low income tickets". It's not like they're not going to get sold. That would put an additional $800,000 into their Scrooge McDuck-like lair. Oh oh, maybe I shouldn't have brought this up.

One popular ticket resale site [removed] already has 93 tickets for sale from $1,350 to $2,000 per ticket.
