I got quiet fond of big glass mugs of Becherovka and Kofola when I was in the Czech Republic. Although after a couple it does get difficult to order more, "Becherovka and Kofola" doesn't roll off the tongue quite as easily as "rum and coke"

Does she understand what a clutch does? Do you have a rototiller or some such with exposed V-belt drive, where the belt is the clutch, so she could watch the mechanical connection being gradually made?

I asked the same.....just says she wants to know how, in case it's ever necessary. I appreciate wanting a skill, "just in case"..........

Well I do wish that I had been fortunate enough to have Elliot explain what is going on when I had to learn

but then later for a big cattle truck ..I was told to shift according to the sound
it was a bit scary on the hilly parts

still is !

Maybe this will help Yg.

The car talk guys always recommend a big parking lot and then having the student practice getting the car moving WITHOUT TOUCHING THE GAS!!!

Do that for 20 minutes and she'll have the feel for the clutch.

They say the rest becomes easy after that. 8)

Nice!!!
A W123 paired with an OM 616.912. The 616 should run on just about anything. Very good for the vegi oil conversions.
If it goes, look for a OM617.952.
I almost got my hands on a 300TD with one in it.

indeed.
I have a "spare" 85 300D turbo. same w123 chassis, so, can swap if needed.

Good point FJ!! that may have helped......though, really, she's doing pretty good. Able to take off on a slight hill, maybe 2%. has now shifted up and down through all the gears and such.
learning on an underpowered, heavy car like this, IMHO, will make driving most others easier.

That's the engine to grab.
They've got a really neat air-bleed valve in the fuel circulation system. Works great, but sometimes the quality of the fuel (additives) will gum it up. Soak & blow and it's good to go.

Damm. Now I want one again.

I took my sister out to teach her standard on my Datsun 200SX. Heavy enough, but a little peppy. Got her able to start facing up a hill. Even showed her how (poor clutch) to hold it there, drift back, drift forward. All for a good cause. Thought she had it figured out. Then we're stopped at a light on a hill. Facing down hill. Waiting at the red, she lunged forward into the intersection. Stopped. Backed up. Then she did it again. And yet again. I asked, and she replied "Trying to hold it there on the clutch..."
