Please cash pre sale ticket money

Post by engineer2012 » Fri Jan 23, 2015 9:55 am

Hi,
I hope Ticketfly or BM org will cash the money very very soon. Due to the Euro/Dollar rate is dropping dramaticly, tickets will cost more by the hour. I called the Credit Card company and they say that the purchase has been approved, and is now on pending the cashing of the seller. I'll be so happy when I finally receive my confirmation email, meaning the payment is finalized.
Greettings and see you in the dust. So exited.

If you're that worried about the extra couple bucks due to exchange rate dipping by the hour, I'm curious why you felt compelled to spend the extra 400+ dollars for a rip-off ticket? You are aware that tickets for less then half that amount are available soon, and they're just as easy to obtain.

The Euro lost about 2 1/2 percent against the dollar resulting in Engineers cost going up by $21.90 overnight. Assumimg a vehicle pass also. Add that to the bite the CC companies take and I can understand his complaint. The Euro will not gain for a while and may continue losing so the longer the banks, CC companies, etc. hold on to his money the more it costs him.

Some of us would rather look at this as saying the dollar strengthened 2% against the euro. Glass have empty or half full all sort of depends upon your vantage point I suppose.

True, if we don't get BM tickets maybe we can afford to go to Europe this summer.

I understand your point, however keep in mind that I also had to make RV reservations, which availability is less in February then now. Yesterday I made the reservation, together with flights and hotels. And also this is more expensive, when this is booked in February. Combined with the current rate dipping, this means extra money for the basics. Early reservation pays for the extra 400 dollar for the ticket. I save money on a monthly basis so I can go to BM every 3 years. The budget is fixed in Euro's. Pending the cost for the basics, which is more then half of the budget and in Dollars (BM ticket, RV) and the exchange rate, I have the left over money from the budget for water, food and non-food and fuel cost in the US. For BM 2012, the pre sale lotery was mid December 2011, more then a month earlier. The earlier you can make reservations, the cheaper it will be.

Greece is rather cheap for us indeed. Two weeks all inclusive to Kos, €1000,- pp! This includes flights.

Tickets for less than half of $800 will be available soon, but they are demonstrably not as easy to obtain. It looks like it took about a day for the $800s to sell out, the pubilc sale tickets will sell out almost immediately. Plus, he's in the Netherlands, meaning if they start the sale at noon in SF, it's 9 p.m. his time, so he'd have to stay up all night trying to get a ticket, which he might not get in any event. They don't ship the physical tickets overseas, which makes buying in the secondary market dicey. Last year, for the first time, the price didn't fall below face value, and if you are booking airfares, ground transport, hotels and such from overseas, you can't afford to wait until July or August, you need to have all your plans made. Even at $800, the tickets are not that large a cost for somebody coming from Europe, and the assurance that you can go means you can take your time booking flights and probably save the difference.

Wow. So I guess all those people talking about not being able to get main sale tickets the last two years, even though they logged on just a minute or two after noon, were just exaggerating. And just as many people are willing to spend $800 as $400. I'll keep that in mind...

I also had to make RV reservations

maybe a tent instead of the thousands of dollars this will cost.

might be more cost effective than bitching about the exchange rate and the time in which your order is processed.

just a thought.

I did the "RV" thing (well a converted school bus anyway) my first year. To be honest, I preferred staying in my tent last year. There is a lot to be said about the stress involved in preparing an RV & being responsible for all the passengers riding along. Unless I have greater infrastructure needs in the future, I think a tent is the way to go.

YMMV

I'm always curious when people who live within driving distance of BRC post something like this whether they regret it eventually, or just persist in thinking that somebody who lives in Amsterdam (it's in Europe) might own a "tent" (which they would store in the wine cellar maybe?), or, to be radically self-sufficient, two tents,, a tarp, a sleeping bag, a cot, bedding, cooking utensils, storage for food and clothing, a generator, tables, chairs, maybe a couch, and a fucking CAR that they could take on the airplane from Amsterdam (in Europe) so that they could pop out in some city that isn't Reno (no direct flights from Amsterdam, which btw, is in Europe) and be all set to arrive in Burning Man with all of those things that he'd need and that you can't fit in a carry on and two suitcases.

You could probably buy all this stuff here (locally or close to) rent a car and it would probably still be cheaper than renting an RV. Not as convenient...

And you don't need a generator (unless of course for health reasons)

True, you don't absolutely need a generator....but I left out bathing/dishwashing facilities. What is he supposed to do with his gray water?

If you are sharing an RV, it's much cheaper per person than buying all of those things and then getting rid of most of them each year.

No.. not exaggerating.. they just didn't do what was necessary to obtain a ticket. Don't log in 10 seconds late.. go in 2 minutes early, just like every other person who is able to get their ticket. Everyone that I talked to that was at a computer, ready to go before tickets went on sale were able to get them. The people who went to the bathroom and the people who were even 10 seconds late were probably not going to get a ticket. It's simple radical self reliance. I was at a desk with a desktop computer and two laptops and I was able to log into 3 different machines and purchase 2 tickets under each account and had no problem at all with any purchase... so I don't feel sorry for anyone that wasn't able to get there own ticket that uses the excuse "I was a minute or two after noon."

Well, you are bitching to Simon, who drives a motorcycle from NY every year. Not exactly bringing his house with him, ya know? And last year we had a camper from India and one from Germany. Neither had RVs. In fact, both came on ride shares.

Well, Simonmay be coming from Rochester, New York, but, yunno, it SAYS Rochester, Nevada. Since he's evidently not bringing the radical self-reliance requisites on a bike (or does he tow a trailer for 5,000 miles?) then perhaps he has a camp or storage in Empire.

In any case, nice fellow from Amsterdam wants to come to Burning Man, isn't coming on a bike, doesn't want to lug tents and tarps and sleeping bags on an airplane, doesn't have people making room for him in theircamp; renting an RV is a perfectly rational thing to do. He was more commenting on the precipitous slide in the euro, of which you all seem blissfully unaware ( http://www.google.com/finance?q=EURUSD& ... qAHt74GYDw ), and its insult-adding-to-injury factor than on the actual cost.

Maybe, just maybe, instead of assuming he didn't think of a tent as an alternative, you consider his circumstances and practice radical basic decency to an overseas visitor.

buying 800$ pre-sale tickets and renting an RV AND bitching about a 23$ price fluctuation as a result of currency change?

fucking priceless.
