So I jumped thru all the hoops and got my pre-sale tickets at noon on the 21st, my question is ,was all the talk of tickets selling out super quick just a ploy to get us to buy as quick as possible or does the pre sale really sell out ? Seems to me the powers that b would let as many $800 sell as possible and tell us there are only 4000.

Presale is sold out, they sold out last year too. Presale sells out but just not as fast as the regular sale. They only offer so many Presale tickets because the extra money is "supposed" to support the low income ticket program. The point of presale, in theory, is to support other programs not generate profit.

The official story as generated by the BM propaganda dept. is that the extra money from the presale tickets covers the low income tickets. In a previous thread there was some maths exploring this and it became apparent that much more money was made by the presale than spent on low income tickets by the Borg.

As a theory it doesn't hold water and its a bullshit hypothesis.

When people were trying to buy tickets at 1203 some were getting sent to a page saying that the tickets were sold out when in fact they were not. This is when everyone started freaking out & panicking. Like I have said before, assume everything related to purchasing tickets will go wrong & then be pleasantly surprised when it doesn't. I actually thought the process went more smoothly than last year.

For the people getting sent to the "sold out" page or message (whatever it was) all they had to do is keep trying & they would have gotten their tickets. (I hope they did)

As others have said, yes they do sell out but not as quickly as the normal sale. I don't think it's some grand conspiracy, but that's more fun to talk about.

Pre-sale tickets have sold out since at least 2012. Because of the higher price, they tend to have less of a demand spike as the regular ticket on-sale, and so it's not unusual for it to take longer to sell through (compared with the main sale, which sold out in under an hour in 2014).

Never mind I found it, Larry's Blog entry about the Caravansicle Debacle says that 3,113 Pre-sale tickets were sold. I had thought that there were 4000 tickets allocated to the Pre-sale but looking back through last year's JRS emails showed that the allocation was actually 3000. I suspect a lot of folks assumed the rather random number meant that the sale didn't reach it's allocation and didn't bother to double check what the allocation was since that seemed more likely/fit their narrative more than the sale having been oversold.

It's possible that I'm wrong, but pre-sale tickets are still available. I pre-registered and have intended on completing my purchase but just can't bring myself to actually commit this year. ...so many concerns with the way things have been going after so many years of attending...

Anyway, I was able to put tickets in my cart as far as to enter final credit card authorization from ~1 minute after the sale started, some time in between, and again 10 minutes ago; as much as I can tell, nothing is stopping me from buying two $800 tickets and vehicle passes....

I know because I work with Burning Man and remember getting the notification from someone on the ticket team that the presale had sold out so I could update the post we'd put together.
