Aimlesswanderer Here! Any Santa Fe Burners?

Post by whatevaplaya » Sat Jan 03, 2015 1:15 pm

Hey Everybody!

I just moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico from Park City, Utah and finally have the finances to attend BRC this year. I am a virgin, though I have spent the last three years helping burner friends prepare for the big one. Being handy I have built hexayurts and have designed energy systems that have held up in the playa. Also, I am a classically trained chef, so I have helped plan and pack meals for burners as well. Lastly, I need to finally get myself there and would like to do it with local burners.

If you are or know any burners in the Santa Fe area that could help me connect, any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance and to all a good night........

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

Have you contacted regional contact? In a contactive sort of way? Also, there might be a Santa Fe, or New Mexico burner group on that blue f site.

Thank you Elderberry for the warm welcome. And thank you theCryptofishist for the heads up on New Mexico Regional Burners. I sent an email requesting to make contact with any local burners and requested to be put on the email list a few days ago, but haven't heard back. The only board I haven't been on is the New Mexico blue F page, I do not like the book of faces. But I may have to break down and turn my account back on......Still chewing on it.

Otherwise, I have spent the past week immersed in the boards here, at the org site, and reddit. Then I dug around my workshop. And stayed up late at night thinking in bed. I am totally going even if I am going alone.

Thank you both for the warm welcome. I am off to ask virgin questions somewhere on these boards.

Hope I get to meet you both on the Playa!

Welcome whatevaplaya. I always attend alone. I've made fast friends every year with the people camped near me. Now we all camp alone together. You have months to hang out here and get to know us. Then you won't be completely alone when you get there. Good luck on your search for a camp.

Hey Everybody,

Just got home from a long day at work and I am near tears. I spend a lot of time late night reading through posts (alot, even the really old ones) and am self realizing what the the ten principles are. And some of the Sherpas I see posting on the "reg" include Elderberry, theCryptofishist, and Ratty. All of you, took the time to reply to tiny, little, me.... stuck in the default world. I want to scream "goddamnit", but I am a recovering(ed) Catholic,,,,Atheist. You are not supposed to be this good. Anyhow, no response yet from NM Regionals, and I still cannot bring myself to use the blue phonebook, though I know they are there. I have a lot of those "friends", not tons, but at least a few hundred or so, (related to a pubic life, that's right pubic) and for me this is not about that, so I will find old school ways to seek these people out. I have a couple of leads from locals who keep bringing up two names of people who are very participatory. I hope to find them. Thank you all for reaching out, and Elderberry even sent a pm. I am going to respond. And I am going to pm sustainable Scott. Would the rest of you mind if I pm to ask questions? I am of course a little stuck asking stupid Birgin questions. Thanks for taking time out of your day. I want to go home. I can take myself home?!?!

I am at your service.

Arthur

Arthur, Ask away. It sounds like you're going about this sensibly. Do your homework. Keep it simple. You are addressing a wide variety of travelers here. Some are in large camps. Some go it alone. Don't count on others for your basics. Food, water, shelter from the elements and a comfortable sleep. 68,000 people to play with is all the company you may need. The people you camp near will interact with you. You can easily find eplayans and hang out or explore. Do you enjoy doing things by yourself. Socializing, shopping, entertainment. Do you really need to connect with burners before you come this year? Lots of us just packed it up and went alone our 1st time. Personally I like it. You'll do it differently the next year. And the year after that. Cooler, tent, tarp, ropes, duct tape, rebar, sleeping bag, air mattress, warm coat, baby wipes, sardines and crackers, 3 cases of Pabst Blue Ribbon and hit the highway.

And right away there's controversy, because I would never recommend a lager or pilsner.

Come to one of the Orphan camps for something other than lager/pilsener. We love to serve guests.
