Our neighborhood is doing a sort of open house thing tonight. A bunch of the shops and businesses are staying open later and participating in this evening hours event, designed to help people explore and check out the community after the workday. I think it's a great idea, our neighborhood has seen a ton of upheaval in the last couple years. There are lots of new businesses that have either started up or relocated, and it's a good way for long-time residents to see what's new or for the new folks to learn more about the place they live now.

Whew! What a day. Rhino the ukes were a joy and a pleasure. And yes, they played both of those themes. 2 hours of solid entertainment.
Trillo, I read your post as 'giganto reindeer'. It made no sense then or now. Way over my head.
The good news is that the County Solid Waste Authority board members renewed our contract for another year. I volunteer for a non-profit whose mission statement is all about diverting goods away from the landfill. We beat the garbage company. No easy feat with all their money and slick talking lawyers. Ha. Good wins again. I surprised myself and was struck with stagefright. It was fun, funny and effective. The political consultants and hired heads were slick as snot. I stammered honestly on and they listened.
Nitey nite. I'm beat.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
No worries, Ratty. In geek speak, render is when your design or animation software takes all the stuff you've been putting into your project and makes it into a picture or animation. I called it a "giganto" render because it was really really high resolution... gigantic. By comparison, a normal HDTV image is around 2 million pixels (or 2 megapixels), a really fancy 4K TV image is around 8 megapixels, and a really good digital camera is around 16 megapixels.... and the image I was working on was 155 megapixels. It's for some art that my girlfriend and I are making for this year's burn, once we get some things done I'll probably post pictures somewhere, and we'll have the super fancy finished pieces out on the playa.
I woke up a little wobbly today, I may have over-indulged myself on fancy microbrews. The meetup spot we'd picked with friends was a neighborhood brewery joint, and naturally as we waited for a friend who was running late we had another round... or maybe two. They were also serving up fancy tamales from the Mexican/Salvadoran restaurant around the corner, so we had to give those a try. Then we stumbled on down the street and checked out the fromagerie. Alas, the line was incredibly long and the people behind the counter were in no hurry, so we moved along to the shop next door.... fancy chocolates! It was actually Pandorra's favorite chocolatier, she's been enjoying their nibbles for years and discovered we lived only a few blocks away when she did the neighborhood crawl last year. The next stop was an amazing gallery that had these massive 8'x8' and 10'x10' installations on the walls made from hard drives and motherboards and all kinds of other bits of technology. Really dazzling stuff! We made a few more stops, then found ourselves at a little place that specialized in fancy wines, ciders, and vermouths. Afterwards, we headed to one of our favorite little brewpub spots eat and drink a little more... only to realize it was the designated afterparty spot, and was absolutely mobbed. Our group split a bit at that point, with one group determined to brave the extremely long queue for their top shelf BBQ, another group skipping food altogether and aiming for the separate and shorter queues at the bar. We were someplace in between - I'd spied that they were offering pre-made pastrami sandwiches at a to-go stand by their side entrance, so I grabbed a couple of those and a couple drinks at the bar and it was just what we needed. More great conversation ensued, and eventually people started to peel off for home. The weather was nice and Pandorra's ankle was doing alright (she's still healing up after breaking it in December), so we strolled home. Along the way she pulled me into a music gear shop on a side street to show me all kinds of fancy tech and we chatted with the guys working the little shop and geeked out a little bit on music gear. All in all, really great night.

While I enjoy a more rural existence, with the ability to step out the back door into a wooded area and build a bonfire or look at the night sky, you sure do describe an exciting lifestyle there in the city Trilo. Thanks for sharing, and giving others a sampling of what it is like in your world.
Speaking of renders, it is interesting to me that you refer to your images in megapixels rather than image resolution. Is that a printing convenience? At the present time I nearly always render out at 1920x1080 HD, which I'm sure you do a lot of as well. And congrats on what surely amounts to one heck of a renderfarm. You can certainly dial in all kinds of cool bells and whistles with that kind of horsepower to support the effort!
Woohoo! It is nearing that time when I need to transfer some money out of the ol' BSA (burner savings account) into the account associated with my ticket buying credit card. And maybe a little extra to support a project or two as well. I'm starting to feel just a little bit giddy thinking about getting dusty again!

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Heya BvB! For video projects I generally use resolution too (720p, 1080p, etc), but with renders for print those numbers get to be kind of meaningless... both because the numbers can get really high really quickly and because the size and aspect ratio can get a little weird. The giganto-render was 10,800 x 14,400 pixels, which will work out to 3 feet wide by 4 feet tall at 300 dots per inch. It's for one of 8 art posters we're making for our camp's Carnival Of Space & Time theme, and we decided early on that we want them to be high quality prints. And as you've seen, we like to play with technology when making art
Hooray for Friday, and bigger hoorays for the jackhammer guy at the job site across the street knocking off for the weekend. Pandorra's just arrived home from work, so time for dinner and drinks and arty nonsense. Cheers!

I shall take a beer please.
We did our taxes and it was half of what we were thinking we would get back. Shit. So that means no burning man this year. Damn had really high hopes and even started sewing and buying a few things. But yeah. With my sugery in April and a few other things super high on the list of need to pay, we can't afford it. So pissed
sigh, so I guess I will have to wait till 2016 to see ya guys again. Grrrr.

Afternoon All!!
And it was a nice day today. I think Lauren Bacall called "false spring" in The Shootist which was filmed in Carson City.
Noticed a few daffodils broke ground. About 3/4 of an inch.
They're hearty plants and can take the cold. Waiting for the hyacinths and tulips now
Gonna go to Js Bistro in old town Dayton for dinner in about an hour.
Hope all have a nice evening.
