Fun Irish guy looking for fellow burners to share RV

Post by BurningIrish » Wed Feb 04, 2015 1:00 pm

Hi
I an Irish guy , virgin burner who is travelling solo from Ireland fro BM 2015
I 'm very easy going, up for a good time, seasoned festival goer ,whilst also would like to get some sleep at some stage!, :
And keep RV in a liveable condition for the week
. I am looking for fun like minded people to share RV and BM experiences with.
I have had a look at some RV availability and looks like pick up in SF iris most likely option
as Reno availability looks very limited.
Let me know what you think
John

I'm moving this over to the Share Resources board, since that's a better fit for ride and RV shares. Feel free to circle back to the Greeter's Station and post an introduction if you like. Good luck!

Some things to consider:

1. Picking up from SF / Reno will most likely include a hefty surcharge. All the RV rental folks know exactly where you are going and what you will do to the RV. Since you are already coming from Ireland why not mitigate this cost by flying into Utah or Arizona and rent from a less jaded facility with no BM surcharge? Of course, don't make them jaded and clean the RV afterwards.

2. Think long and hard about splitting RV costs with unknown people. Sharing such a small space for a week with best friends is tough -- Strangers with questionable personalities can drive even the best person mad. Is it really worth it? For a comfy place to sleep? Personally, I'd much rather a private tent than share a nice RV with others.

3. If you are crazy enough to continue down the RV with strangers path then put something together in writing before ever leaving home. Things like toilet usage (e.g. poo in the portos, not the RV), food prep / cleanup, sleeping arrangements, guests, etc. Setting boundaries early will save you headaches at the burn.

Good luck and see you in the dust!

Yeah...what digital said! I did the RV with strangers thing for a couple of years and nearly went mad. Also, if you haven't solidified your flight plan, consider flying into Seattle and picking up your RV there...El Monte is a good source...and they still might not be hip to where it's going. I always told them I was just taking a leisurely trip down the coast and then swinging up thru Central Oregon where it might pick up a little dust. But clean that thing from top to bottom before you return it or you will pay a hefty cleaning charge...no matter where you pick one up.

PM me if you'd like more details.
Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.
