cold weather, wouldn't some raclette and a fire be nice? hot crusty bread and soup...

Going to walk to the post office and get some shwag from across the country, Virginia.

Car parts should be arriving tomorrow so I can get the car running in better shape. Motor mounts are shot, and it's shaking, worrisome. Going to try DIY on this round, tired of the predictable charge from the mechanic, and these part replacements look to be in my skill range. I'm going to stretch my comfort zone and give it a go.

Hello Bar Peeps,
A bit of air clearing...

I'm really not sure what it is that causes some people to hold grudges for long periods of time. While I can understand someone feeling wronged by a person or group of people, it is not in my nature to carry those ill feelings around with me forever and let them ferment into some bitter vitriolic soup. Nor is it possible to please everyone at all times. Sometimes one has to make a choice to move on and let things be gone. I know a great many of you folks in here from our time together on the playa and in these forums. I have generally not been too present in this particular thread or its several predecessors other than the original Bar, mostly in loyalty to someone who feels they have been badly wronged, whether this was intentional or a matter of circumstance. Hijacked is the term I believe I have heard many times. The how's and why's were never entirely clear to me, although I am sure I would be welcome to a full and detailed explanation of all perceived wrong doings on the parts of many folks. I used to drop into the original eplaya Bar thread and light a fire now and then to chase away the shadows, but I found recently that the thread has been permanently locked, so now there is not even a way to carry that torch any longer and it seems that the time is right for moving on.

Not long ago I posted a short sentence in here and not long thereafter received out of the blue a text message which seemed to convey that my high treason was now complete. So be it. I have quite a few playa friends and acquaintances, both here and on the actual playa. Many of you are in this thread. Some are not and never will be. I don't know that the person in question will ever have a change of heart or relent. What I do know is that it seems crazy to continue this dance of distance and ostracize myself from all of you for something that did not affect me directly in support of one man's vendetta. To my friend I say: I still love you and care about you, but I can't support you in this never ending grudge you have taken upon yourself at the expense of so many friendships. I can only hope that at some point you come back out of the shadows and take your rightful place in this great group of folks. You've been invited so many times. And yes, I know you read this thread religiously.

That is all.
A plan is what you vary from.

Good morning bar, and hi there BBD!!! I'm sorry to hear about the grudge nonsense (I've never been a grudge person, either). If it's any consolation, I can assure you that the closing of the old bar threads had nothing to do with any kind of user-related drama or grudges.

As this board grows and learns and evolves and changes, we found that one bar thread was plenty, and we found that threads with hundreds or even thousands of pages can be awfully intimidating for new users. By chance discovery, we found that starting a new bar thread for each burn season makes for a great mix of new people, seasoned veterans, regular posters, and those who don't get here that often. Considering that the thing in the desert that we're all so very fond of is all about building things all up and then starting over again next year, having a new bar for every season felt like the way to go.

For posterity's sake, the last post in an old bar thread should point to it's successor, and the first post in a new one should include a link to the one before it. I don't imagine that any new people would necessarily want to start at the beginning and read every post, but for when we might be feeling nostalgic and want a trip down memory lane (there are some really great conversations and wonderful playa friends tucked away in there).

I hope that info helps, and I hope whatever is happening with your friend resolves itself amicably. Know that you're welcome to come here as often or as you like (even if that's once in a great while...we'll take it), and write either a short sentence or something longer.

We're okay here in our neighborhood, but a transformer apparently blew out in the Mission, lots of people in the dark and probably an extra awful time for people in cars and buses. Wet on the weekend is less fun, but we sure could use the rain. I hear from friends that there's snow in upper elevations, here's hoping they get a bunch up in the Sierras. I've been tinkering with art and working on rendering different textures and surfaces and lost track of time. Time for drinks!

Amen on the cast iron frying pan, thecatman. However, I only use mine at home for sausage. Bacon gets broiled in the oven to come out perfectly crisp every time. 10 minutes on one side, 7 on the other, and it's done. I go twelve minutes on one side, twelve on the other only with steak cut bacon. What's steak cut bacon, you ask? Well, we have a smokehouse down the road west in California, Missouri, called Burger's smokehouse, that produces the most wonderful apple smoked bacon.
http://www.smokehouse.com/burgers.nsf/i ... acon-Steak <this is the stuff.
They slice it four slices to the inch. It works out between 7 and 8 slices per pound.
I get it in the local grocery store for about $7.99/pound.

Go east to the town of Swiss from where I live, and you have Swiss Meats. They also have superb bacon, in fact, WORLD CHAMPION bacon. They sell it only at their store in Swiss, because they sell so much of it. But that's not all they sell...they also do bratwursts of 60 different varieties, as well as a full array of German sausages like knockwurst, mettwurst, brunschweiger, and others. Last time I went there, three weeks ago, I ended up with over $100 of packaged meats.
Swiss bacon: http://www.swissmeats.com/products/bacon.html

Missouri is pork heaven. It's a fact. There's even a township in Moniteau County called "Bacon township". NO JOKE. I hope to buy bacon or cook bacon in Bacon township at an early opportunity.

It's also not a surprise that we do great BBQ here. We have enough pork to practice on to get really good.

Regarding holding a grudge, I'm reminded of a line from one of my favorite Coen Brothers movies..

Mornin All!

4:30 in the morning and can't sleep. Still windy and rain pelting the side of the house like shotgun pellets.
I'll make the best of it and get ready for work.
Hope everybody has a good Saturday and stay dry if it's precipitating in your neck of the woods.
