North Alabama in the house.
My friend and I are trying to make it to the playa this year. We want to "Do It Right". This will be our first burn and we plan to make it a good burn and gift our booties off. Our plans are to use a yurt and swamp cooler and a tarp shade structure that I've yet to learn to build. I have done extensive research and my main concern right now is getting a ticket...next concern is the heat. I can't wait to ring the bell and make dust angels, play wildly on the Playa and meet me some Burners. Peace!

WELCOME!!
But it's a dry heat. Just kidding. Alabama is a nice state as well. In 1986 I visited Dothan, Montgomery and Phenix City. I came this close to moving to Montgomery.Trailer Park Gypsy wrote:next concern is the heat

Sounds like you are doing it right! With those plans, and being from Muscle Sholes, you will find the heat easy to handle. I am not far from you, from Memphis, and the dry heat in Nevada is much easier to deal with than hot southern humidity.Traiiler Park Gypsy wrote:Our plans are to use a yurt and swamp cooler and a tarp shade structure that I've yet to learn to build. I forgot to say my name is Donna. My friend is Jonny. What is the best time to show up to get in the gate?

Re: North Alabama in the house.
Hi Donna (& Jonny!)
In recent years, the entrance time has been pushed 6 hours earlier (Sunday 6pm) instead of 12:01am on the Monday a week before Labor Day. This has helped reduce the number of people on the road late at night, and may indeed happen again (but we don't know yet). Join the JackRabbit Speaks newsletter and be among the first to know . . .

or check back at the main site when the 2015 Survival Guide is posted.
. . . Just avoid arriving early. (More information about that is halfway down this page.)

Re: North Alabama in the house.
Wow I've never seen a post by a brand new person that so clearly shows they've taken the effort to learn all about what they're getting into! Hot damn!
I grew up as a kid in Huntsville and Mobile.
Like the others said, if you can deal with AL weather you can deal with Nevada.
You never know just what it's gonna be; some years, it's mild and the newer folks think everyone was just trying to scare them. Sometimes it IS really fucking hot.
But night time is the big variable. Sometimes it's warm all night. Sometimes it's gotten so cold that we really wanted to go out and about but just couldn't stand it.
So - remember to prepare for cold too.
Those big long furry coats you see people in are very strategic.

Hey Y'all!!
Had a few friends from Huntsville. I'm an AU grad.
Did you guys get tickets yet, or like me, fingers crossed for Wednesday?

Re: North Alabama in the house.
Savannah, I'm happy to know not to show up prior to gate opening. I don't want to start BMan off looking like a jackass
I am subscribed to JRS so I will keep an eye on that. Just knowing that JRS will inform us on that is a relief.
Captain GD congrats on being Alabamian. Roll Tide. I decided in November to go to BMan this year and have been nonstop researching ever since. I realize it's going to be an intense experience and I'm no fan of discomfort. I'm also friends with veteran burners who instruct me alot. Where are you camping?
Quinkygirl, I have tried numerous times to contact these groups to no avail. Have also tried contacting Nashville group with similar success. I like your name ;D
GulfCoast, I lived in Robertsdale for awhile. My dad graduated from AU and lived in married students housing on the day of my birth. That don't mean shit. I still Roll with the Tide
But I'm friendly about it. My boyfriend grabbed a ticket in the indi sale but I'm waiting for another sale. So he's done crossing his but I'm still crossing mine.
Thanks Catman and Roundabout. I have heard the same thing from many people.
