If you have the nerve to yell at STAFF and disabled people you can blow me. I don't have time to decorate my car cause I'm making this shit happen!

Brush it off. Enjoy your burn. They are idiots.

You are completely misreading my post. I was giving an example to the OP that there are many vehicles on playa which are not mutated but instead serving other functions (similar to his disabled vehicle which serves the function of transporting a disabled person and has a legit reason not to be mutated). Would you consider an ambulance driver entitled for not mutating the ambulance? No. It's serving another function.

That's all. I am not playing any "staff card" and not sure why or how it's being read that way. Maybe my presentation via text isn't translating well. Apologies. It was intended to be light hearted, brush it off, it happens to many of us. No attitude.

Report them to the Rangers (ours, not BLM). They have a whole unit that is dedicated to vehicle enforcement. (But yes, without the number it's a bit difficult).

This. Also, if you carry a digital camera try to snap a picture of the vehicle and/or the sticker on the bumper.

It is absolutely unacceptable for any vehicle to be driving over 5 mph inside the city. LEO tends to violate this often and for emergency reasons ESD is exempt. All others are strictly regulated to BRC speed limits and need to be reported if breaking the rules.

The purpose of the flag is exactly what was mentioned here, to avoid the disabled burner being heckled by others.
The flag is meant to go at the top of the window. Since I only have two windows that roll down, and since I like to have those rolled down, there's no good way for me to attach the flag.

Of course, in my case it's moot.

Get a general direction they are heading in, basic description of the vehicle and driver. Any distinguishing features. Then grab a Ranger. I guarantee that idiot will make a mistake again, and will get caught.

Playa driving is the most difficult kind of driving imaginable. No really. It's butt clenching nuts! I cannot stress enough how bleeding important to keep casual/illegal drivers off the roads. And I'd really prefer there was some kind of "training" for disabled drivers, not a pamphlet, more like a ride along until the driver gets the hang of it. I'm not being prejudicial, it's fucking dangerous. Hell if a disabled driver wants me to ride along, I'd be bang up long side! Poop patrol when I'm not the one driving. I love that idea. Spread that word around.

Now just for the record, it is too damn easy to be thinking of twelve other things, be on an open street and without any additional pressure on the accelerator, the vehicle creeps above 5 mph. Or I may be going two mph and going through a rough patch. It's perfectly ok to yell SLOW THE FUCK DOWN!

I'd recommend using a digital camera if you've got one, take a picture of the back of the vehicle (which should hopefully show things like license plate and/or vehicle registration info). Then pretty much +10 to everything Robbidobbs posted.

I agree robbidobbs, Playa driving can be CRAZY!! I don't think I'd go over 5mph even if I was allowed to. And getting anywhere close to a sound camp at night is nearly impossible. I'm so appreciative of the DMV for allowing me to drive, I'd gladly do a ride along or take some form of driving test.

I guess what disturbed me was a man walking from the portos, and getting into a 4 seat golf cart with a disability permit. I am not questioning that he has an impairment that needs a cart, but the fact that he rode off without any riders.

Why? Folks with disabled permits aren't required to give others lifts are they?

Try driving a semi truck full of millions of dollars worth of easily frightened or injured show horses through LA traffic, or a crane truck with an 18-speed non-synchro trans through a crowded city street with literally an inch to spare between parked cars, idiot drivers, bikes, pedestrians, power lines, etc.

Driving on the playa at night is relaxing, easy, and safe. Hell, I do it for my vacation!

Nobody with a disabled permit is required to give lifts, but an appearance of common courtesy goes a long way to radical inclusion.

Well if you have an empty 4 seater golf cart with a disabled permit - and especially if you're not so disabled you can't walk around at all - it WOULD seem pretty decent to give some folks a lift.

What gives you the willies about this? Are so-called "disabled" people exempt from being reasonably cool?

No regard whatsoever for the man himself - He is reduced from a person to a provider of a service. One who SHOULD be doing so much more. Right There and Then.

Do we know where he'd come from? Where he was heading? Who might be waiting for those seats back at camp?

No. All we know is a man was seen walking a few metres from seat to empty seat and was apparently making no one else happy whilst doing so. And up and out come the wagging fingers and clucking tongues.

Well that pretty much sums up what it's like in any regular playa-licensed M/V.

If you've got a tub full of ice water and your neighbors are thirsty, there's no rule that says you have to let them have any.

Let's be nice, folks.

@TexasRick - echoing what some others have said, vehicles with a disability tag are not required to carry passengers, they don't have any of the same 'public conveyance' expectations that a registered mutant vehicle has. A disabled vehicle license is, as the name implies, for a disabled burner so that they may get around the playa as needed. It's difficult to try and determine a situation several months after the fact based on anecdotal evidence, who knows how many possible explanations there could have been. If you see something on the playa that you think is inappropriate or questionable... ask that individual about it or tell a ranger on the day. At the very least you may learn more about the situation, and if someone is doing something inappropriate you may be able to help put a stop to it.

Last year was the first time I needed a disabled license to drive around and I was able to see just about everything. Last year a friend and I were hanging out by the trash fence one night looking at everything from afar, which was en excellent experience. All of a sudden an "Art" car of sorts pulls up (it looked like a El Camino made up to look like a black shark, if my memory serves me, and it had about 5 people in it) The guy zipped up to my car and asked me why I was in my car out by the trash fence (he was very polite)? I said I was allowed to and to check the stick on my bumper. He said no problems, have a great evening! I appreciated he was watching out for what may have been someone who wasn't allowed.

I've never had anyone heckle me because I was out on the playa in my car. In fact, I was handing out lights for folks walking or riding their bikes with out them. :D Lots of goodness out there!

I was given a button with the man and a walker, and a bubble over his head with a fully standing and arms outstretched man. Kind of like he was wishing he was standing tall and strong again.

I was able to give folks rides back to their camps who were out in deep playa and were in need of water and shade. I had a blast!

The bummer part was my disabled flags were stolen from my car...one while I was driving...no big deal though, and being knocked around and knocked over while walking with my cane during the man burn. So yes, there are some asshats out there, but not many at all!!
Sometimes I'm confused by what I think is really obvious. But what I think is really obvious obviously isn't obvious.

I encourage anyone with a disabled vehicle of any sorts (pickup truck, van, sedan, golf cart etc) to go introduce yourself to The BRC Department of Mobility Camp located across from the Center Camp tent (we're usually placed near 6 O'clock road entrance to the Center Camp area) and get to know us. We know things, too

We're always seeking more disabled vehicles to expand our offering of rides to and/or from anywhere in the city. We're a friendly bunch of dusty, drunken, lazy, fun loving, cripples that welcome rides! Some years we have badass dinner plate sized stickers of the "Man" in a flaming wheelchair, if we have enough we offer them to annex drivers and/or you can buy 'em for a few bucks donation. Not a big deal but they are awesome stickers (small med large & dinner plate sized) to have on your handicap vehicle.

IMO the best placement of the flag is on the antenna of your vehicle but asshats steal them for souvenirs! Fuck yer day asshats! & quit stealin' our friggin' flags, lol!

Maximum girth blue tape done in a maximum size handicapped symbol on both sides of your vehicle will work wonders, especially during the day. If outlined in white it'd be great for the night.
I'm the MAN in a truck, burner who is stuck, you're in luck! I'll whip out my BIG tow chain and not charge you, not even one lousy buck!
