Vehicle Pass Problem

I bought 2 tickets during the individual sale. Due to cashflow problems, I was unable to buy a vehicle pass with the card I had on hand in addition to the tickets. Is there any way to add a vehicle pass to my order?

No. However, vehicle passes will likely be available in both the after-market and the OMG sale.

I have 3 friends already who have not been able to buy Vehicle Passes during the individual sale due to them being sold out.

i think people are a little more cautious this year. last year tons of people in june and july were on the boards looking for vehicle passes because they had a ride with someone so they didnt buy the passes, then a month or so out that ride fell thru. so i think this year everyone buying vehicle pass to be safe

I just got through the queue and bought my 2 tickets. But there were no vehicle passes available. We camp alone, and need our car and trailer to get in. I do hope this is not a universal problem and that vehicle passes will come available. Else we will be putting our tickets up on STEP. I trust that the dust will take care of us.

Just bought our two tickets in the main sale. it said "None Available" for vehicle passes. WTF? Are we not gonna be allowed in even though we paid for tix? I guess we'll all have to park at Will Call and walk in? Hell I can't even get my art car in!
I'm hoping to see an email soon saying that they are working on it. This is a scalpers dream!!!!

Passes tend to surface as people finalize their carpool and transportation plans. Sign up for Step in March. We still have a long way to go before panicking.

I am driving from Canada as well, Got tickets but vehicle passes were sold out.
Can you buy vehicle passes through step without ticket purchase?

Let's do the math here:

OMG Sale + Individual Sale + Distributed Sale + Pre-Sale = 27,000 Passes
1,250 + 12,000 + 10,000 + 2,000 (est) = 25,250 Passes
27,000 - 25,250 = 1,750 Passes

Where did the other 1,750 Vehicle Passes go?

The Pre-Sale only says 3 vehicle passes max and 6 tickets max. At 4,000 tickets, the assumption is that the Pre-Sale people would have 2,000 Vehicle Passes available. Were they allowed to buy more? Did people log in to the Pre-Sale and ONLY buy Vehicle Passes?

Exactly how many Vehicle Passes were sold during the Pre-Sale?

Next topic. Why does the distributed sale get limited to 2 tickets per vehicle pass versus the individual sale gets limited to 3.33 tickets per vehicle pass? I get that BM is trying to limit the number of people per car, but why hurt those burners not privileged enough to already be in an established camp. My theory is that established camps are much more likely to be able to arrange successful rideshares than individual sale participants. Virgins are much less likely to be able to.

There's no secret conspiracy. Total number of passes that has been made available (so far, anyways) is 27K. That number has sold out.

In each of the three sales, the limit was half of the event ticket limit.

In each of the three sales, a person could have registered and purchased either tickets only, a vehicle pass only, or both tickets and passes. Between the sales, the supply ran dry. Just like with event tickets, though it happened sooner.

You are right, it isn't a private conspiracy, it is a publicized goal of Burning Man to reduce the number of vehicle passes by 22% (from 35,000 to 27,000).

By my count, there should have been 24,000 of 27,000 sold.
3,000 left to go.
Only 1,250 available in the OMG sale.
Is it safe to assume the other 1,750 are reserved for the Low Income Ticket recipients.

I am kicking myself that I didn't buy a VS in the presale. I had it in the cart and thought - nah, I'll get one if I get tickets in the main sale. DUMB DUMB DUMB.

40,000 tickets, 2 max per sale

1,250 passes, 1 max per sale

4,000 low income tickets, 1 max per sale
Unknown number of passes, 1 max per sale (per the FAQs section)

No, you're just misunderstanding me.

Presale limits: 6 tickets, 3 vehicle passes (half)
Directed Group Sale limits: 2 tickets, 1 pass (half)
Individual Sale limits: 2 tickets, 1 pass (half)

Where event tickets had a specific number allocated to each sale, vehicle passes was a single pool of 27K (as it was last year).

Check your facts here: http://tickets.burningman.org/ Vehicle Passes *do* have a specific number allocated to each sale *and* have a single pool of 27K.

If your statement that there was a single pool of 27,000 and all 27,000 are gone is true...

That means per the information on tickets.burningman.org that:
5,000 passes were sold during the Pre-Sale (not-allocated)
10,000 passes were sold during the Directed Sale (pre-allocated)
12,000 passes were sold during the Individual Sale (pre-allocated)
0 passes are available for the OMG sale
0 passes are available for the Low Income Participants

Please find out *exactly* how many passes have been sold in each sale thus far, and how many passes are left and make that information available. If you're statements are just theorizing, please say so. If your statements are official BM.org information, also please say so.

I clicked within a second of opening...I got a 2 tickets after waiting 57 minutes with no option to buy vehicle pass. gotta have one as we are driving from CT with everything. It seems I was in line for 33 minutes ...then 20... 11 minutes ... then bumped back to 35 minutes.... it seemed to me that other people were getting ahead of us, pushing us back.... nevertheless we need one vehicle pass for our instruments and amplifiers

Nope last year there were 35,000 VPs available, only 34,000 were sold and only about 27,000 were used. They aren't aiming in a reduction from what was used last year, rather a maintaining of that number.

Well if I understand this correctly - 1250 VS's will be available in the OMG sale. If they limit the number of VS sales to one per two tickets, and most people buy two tickets instead of one, that means there will be approximately 750 VS's available in the OMG sale. But can I participate in that sale if I already have bought two tickets in the main sale? My two tickets are almost worthless without a way to drive in and park my cargo van.

JRS sent December 23, 2014:

Vehicle Passes for the 2014 event were introduced as part of our traffic mitigation program. They are intended to incentivize participants to carpool to Black Rock City.
For 2014, the total allotment was 35,000 vehicle passes. We never sold out. Just over 34,000 were purchased in all of our sales combined. Just before the event there were lots of passes on the secondary market, and in the end, only about 27,000 vehicle passes were actually used.
Since Black Rock City will be roughly the same size in 2015 as it was in 2014, this year we're limiting the total allotment to 27,000.

I guess I will follow Trilo's advice and sit tight. I am So F'ing grateful to have my ticket. I so need to go this year. It's not just the "burn" for me, but a pilgrimage to take a memorial for my dad to the temple. I would feel a lot better if I knew there was going to be some way for me to get a VS without a big hassle/aftermarket fiasco search. Last year my sweetie accidentally bought two and I sold the extra to Apex at face value after posting on eplaya.
