Glad to hear it.

You should be very excited, there's a lot of really cool stuff in http://www.archive.org .

Including (dare I say it?) over 8000 Grateful Dead concert recordings. At (assumed) 2 hours each, that's 16000 hours to track all the freaky hippies past the upcoming burn.

I go there for the books as .pdf files. I got a reasonable copy of a great book called "Shelby and his Men" written by John Edwards. Edwards was the right-hand man and corresponding officer for Col. (then Brig. General, CSA when he made Union army cavalry chasing him look like fools in 1863) Joseph Orville Shelby. Edwards style tends to be exaggerated and possibly suspect, but he tells a good yarn. The truth of the matter, which I have tracked all over Missouri and Arkansas, is that Shelby was probably the greatest cavalryman of the Civil War. While J.E.B. Stuart led the Union on a merry chase as he circled around McClellan's army in 1862, Shelby led the Union on a merry chase around the whole state of Missouri in 1863. At the end of the war, he never surrendered, instead dropping down into Mexico to hopefully find employment to get the French puppet Emperor Maximilian out of trouble with the Zapatistas. No such luck, as his services were refused. Instead, Shelby came back north after Pres. Andrew Johnson issued a blanket amnesty, and eventually became the US Marshal for the Western District of Missouri. There's a statue of Shelby in Waverly, Missouri, erected by the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was much more ethical than Forrest, a better Cavalryman than Stuart, and he and his men actually captured a Union naval vessel during the river war in Arkansas.

John Edwards later became the editor of the Kansas City Star newspaper, and he wrote a glowing (though highly inaccurate) book that created the legend of Jesse James (another Shelby contemporary).

The US marshals even have a page devoted to Shelby on their website. What they don't tell you is what he farmed before the war: hemp.

Could be an interesting day.

My brothers house has bedbugs and he's found out that they kill them by heating the house to 115 degrees.

So instead of hiring pro's, he's going to turn on all the burners on the stove, turn the oven on, and put the turkey deep fry burner in the house.

Then turn the house heating system fan on to circulate through the whole house.

He'll put a thermometer inside near a window so he can monitor the temp.

What could go wrong???????????

Good Morning Dear Bar

The field trio to the Internet Archives Wayback Machine was interesting.
Trilo , you and Pandorra might want to check it out...
(And the prettiest man there was a dj who recognized me from brc)
But I am still cogitating about the valiant efforts of these noble few
as I strive to access the present catapulting forward.

Right at 32 this morning. Looking forward to more seasonal February temperatures this weekend. Any possibilities of snow will be light with the bulk of it stay south and east of here, toward southern White Pine, Lincoln and Nye counties.

Attending our first baseball game this afternoon for this year: UNR hosting Fresno state.

Wrong and right. It was just about hot when I arrived. I was wearing a long sleeve tee shirt and had the sleeves rolled up.
Then about 3:00ish, the 5th inning, a slight breeze started up and everybody could feel a chill. By the 7th inning it was getting cold. I stood for the 7th inning stretch and
when I sat down it felt like I sat on an iceberg.
Had a good time. UNR scored 5 runs in the 6th, four consecutive runs of the five were from bases loaded walks. Bottom of the 9th got exciting. UNR was leading 12-6, Fresno scored one run then with two outs loaded the bases. A grand slam would have brought Fresno within one run from tying the game possibly sending it into extra innings. Glad that didn't happen cause it was cold. Thats where the saying "The game ain't over til the last man is out" comes to play.
UNR won 12-7 making them 6-0 for the season. :D

Had a few snow flurries on the way home before and through VC and 3/4 of the way down Six Mile Canyon. Wasn't sticking, wasn't even making the road wet

Well, that's the not-thoroughly-tested approach. That's a long-shot, at best.
His best bet is to get a steamer, and prepare to spend a few days in a row being very, very meticulous along baseboards, mattress edges, electrical sockets (yes, you read that right), and as many nooks and crannies as he can. And then do it again.

I know this because we battled an infestation of them, just a few months back. I happen to have an industrial steamer - the Hoffman JEL15, for the curious - that was a major craigslist score (free) a few years ago. Sucker pumps out steam like no one's bidness. Every piece of furniture, the tv console, the front closet, the boys' bedrooms, the beds, the bedframes, the computer, the bathroom, the walls, the sockets...everything...got more than a few doses of steam. While I was at it, I steam-cleaned the grout in the bathrooms. And then you have to wait a week or so and do it all again, because of the reproductive cycle of the little bastards. In all, it'll take about 3-4 weeks (including waiting periods) before you can breathe easy.

They like to live in electronics; once we discovered that interesting factoid, we traced the source of the problem to a t.v. we picked up for free. They will only come out at night and gravitate towards heat, and CO2; there are some effective CO2 traps he can build from YouTube that will do a far better job than wasting the money on the energy bill. And won't fuck up personal possessions. Might give him gas, though, if he sleeps in the same room with it.
He can also kill them - the eggs especially - with rubbing alcohol. The purer, the better. Nice vapors, too. Good buzz.

I drove past the Morris after the game: around 4:30ish. Somebody was sweeping the sidewalk in front. I was trying to drive and look through the fence near the railroad tracks/Record St.
Guess I shoulda stopped.

This is how weekends should be, slept in until 10:30, now got my coffee and am looking at the 14 inches of snow that just fell.
My interview went well, but scary. These guys do the "topgrading" interview and I was hit with 2 tag teams who had prepared lists of questions, some very hard. Met the hiring manger in the 3rd hour and he toured me around then grilled me some more. Made a few errors but it looks good, Ill take it if I get the offer. They have a few more candidates, then finalists get another 1.5 hour interview. I didn't realize until later, but I was fried that evening.

Have a good day y'all! :coffee:

The Morris is even more wonderful than the tidbits that make it onto the internet. My gf and I were able to make it out to Reno for last summer's Monsters & Elves shindig... basically a big-ass burner block party. While we were there we got to help Killbuck and Nila with a little of the setup for Sideshow (they brought an awesome slice of their camp and their art to the event), and nilasnake was kind enough to take us on a tour of both the hotel space as well as the generator maker-space. So very cool! Even though we don't live in Reno we signed on as members, and I'm hoping we'll get a chance to get out there once or twice for visits over the course of this year. How weird is it to say I wish we had something like that in SF?

Congrats on the interview, and fingers crossed for a solid offer heading your way, Joeln. Is 14 inches even much of a dump in your neck of the woods? I always thought of Colorado as the sort of place where 1-2 feet of snow was pretty common in wintertime.

Figjam, I don't know that heating the house will do the trick. Best bet there is probably to call in the pro exterminators as soon as possible, otherwise he risks more stuff that has to be replaced. Good luck, regardless.

It's been a great weekend of working on art so far, Sunday's just getting started. W00t!

Short of being bitten, I've heard that dogs, specifically beagles, are the best source for detecting bed bugs.......

Morning Bar!
Trilo, as long as you are not in the mountains, Colorado winters can be sweet. Major storms like this don't happen every year. It's common to have a few inches fall, then melt off within a day or two. Sometimes, T-shirts can come out two days after a snowstorm. We get 290 plus sunny days per year. A few weeks ago the weather was so nice we went on a hike and the trail was jammed, we passed a group of people every couple of minutes for two solid hours.

Thanks for the well wishes on this job, I'm an electronic tech looking for less routine work, better pay and a better "working climate."

Ygmir Good to see you back in the bar

Joeln still hoppin things turn out for you

I had an unexpected surprise today. I was sweeping one of the streets today in street sweeper. I did the gutter/curb first going south. Flipped a U-turn to do the north bound. Got done with that and went back and swept the bike lane.
Well, a commuter on a bike was behind me. I could see his shadow. He went and passed me on the left and was proceeding to turn left into the Toyota dealer. (Guessing he works there)
While he was turning left he looked back at me, smiled and gave me a big thumbs up for sweeping the bike lane.
It felt good that someone shows appreciation for the work we do :D

Good to hear, thecatman! Speaking as somebody who lives at street level on a corner that's got street cleaning going on two different days of the week... THANK YOU to street cleaners everywhere! We're a pretty clean neighborhood, but the general junk and whatnot that piles up really does add up, and being right at the corner of two different routes, every Monday and Wednesday morning I see what general debris winds up on the sides of the street. Without someone doing what you do, the sewers/storm drains would be a disaster when it rains, and the debris would pile up and make a huge mess in no time. I curse the meter maids for cutting no slack sometimes, but I understand that if they didn't do their job nobody would move their cars on street cleaning day. Fortunately we've gotten pretty good at it over the years, so we don't screw up and make things more difficult very often.

Good morning, Bar! It's a bright and sunny day in the bay today... probably extra bright and extra sunny on account of me having an eye appointment, they'll probably be giving me drops and I'll have to wear blackout sunglasses.

Careful when crossing tracks, folks. I saw there was a horrible wreck down in Oxnard, and last night my girlfriend had a 2+ hour delay in getting home because some nitwit driver moved into a railroad crossing before the road was clear on the other side.

Be safe, have fun!
