G'Day From Sydney

Post by shipsong » Sun Feb 22, 2015 6:59 pm

I'm a 48 year old guy who has had Burning Man on my bucket list some time. A combination of (a) my bucket list now becoming more urgent (b) being able to organise the travel logistics (its a long way from Australia) and (c) being able to secure tickets has all meant that I am losing my burginity this year.

I'm coming with a good mate from university - we're still trying to get a ticket for another friend but I'm not all that hopeful given how sought after they are.

No firm plans as of yet but planning everything over the next few months will be half the fun.

Really looking forward to meeting lots of new people.

Peter

I've met some Ausies and the event is a natural match to the walkabout, aka extended travels, culture. Anyone who has traveled knows. Your regional will be a good place to start, including to find camps and travel logistics.

The West USA+Canada is an awesome place for car camping in national and state parks, if you can, spend a month or two. Having friends along is ideal.

By the way, 'bucket list" is getting somewhat of a bad name as a motivation for attending BM, especially if that bucket list includes Glastonbury, the Full Moon Parties, Coachella, Ibiza and anything on the Fest300 list. The proper terminology is "I needed to fulfill my higher aspiration to manifest the gift of the burning man culture on the world" or other incomprehensible festival speak. :)

Hi Shipsong! I'm another Sydney-sider and I'm heading back for my third burn this year, welcome to ePlaya!

Some Seeing Eye is right about getting in touch with other Aussies to sort things out. There is a regional in Western Australia called Blazing Swan that's on over the Easter long weekend otherwise the Eastcoast/main Aussie regional Burning Seed is on the October long weekend, so too late to be useful before the Nevada Burn but definitely worth checking out. There's also the Burning Man Australia and Burning Man Sydney Facebook groups that it would be wise to join in the hopes of hooking up with someone with a ticket to spare.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me
