Gate line up.
When do gates open for 2015 BMan? What is the best time to start getting in line?

So far as I know, this year's opening time has not been announced yet. But I can tell you that you do NOT want to arrive before that official time.

Re: Gate line up.
To expand o what Elliot said; folks that arrive before the gate officially opens get routed to the fun and loving "D Lot" which is sort of a parking lot jail. You get placed there and then shuffled to the back of the line when the staff decides you've atoned for your sins of getting there too early.
The atonement may be on the scale of 6 to eight hours of extra wait in the "D Lot".
Have fun timing it just right.

To correct what T....
There is indeed such a thing as D-Lot, but it is used for another purpose. Those who arrive too early are parked in a separate staging area.
That is, unless you are much too early, in which case you will be sent back to Reno.

Re: Gate line up.
In 2009, we arrived at the gate 5 minutes before midnight opening and were directed to, yes, the D Lot, where we sat for 8 hours watching cars cruise in. One of our group was smart enough to see what was going on and just stopped his car, refusing to move, and waited the remaining 3 minute until the gate open, wherein he sailed through.Elliot wrote:To correct what T....![]()

Not sure if its still called "D Lot" or is the policy is still in place, but boy, that was not a fun way to start the burn. Although, I should say, we turned our corner of D Lot into a little party, and 2009 ended up being my "Best Burn Ever!", so no hard feelings.
As for best time to arrive, there are no guarantees, but in 2011 and 2012, I arrived on Tues. morning and both times there was no wait at all at the gate, nor any traffic on 447. Your (literal) mileage may vary.

Wow sounds sticky. I'd like to get in in time to find a camping spot since we're just camping on our own.

Re: Gate line up.
The city is big, there are plenty of spots to be had. Really.
2013 we arrived about 2-3 hours early and was sent to the staging lot (D lot is for something else now). When gates opened we were pulsed in ith the regular line. The thing with this is; the first people sent into spathe staging lot are the last to pulse out.

Re: Gate line up.
I recommend getting in to the event early as possible after event opening so that you get as much time as possible to experience the whole thing. Paying attention to the jackrabbit speaks news letter and other official channels will give you the time when gate will open this year. This may be a year where they change the gate opening time again so past opening times may not apply. I have been in before gate opening for the last 8 years so people who have waited in line at opening for the last few years will give the best advice on how to time hitting gate right at opening.Traiiler Park Gypsy wrote:Wow sounds sticky. If you have a small camp it will never be a problem finding a spot to camp. If you have a specific target area or neighborhood that you want to camp in then getting in as early as possible will help making that goal. The later one comes in after gate opening the harder it is to find spots closer to the Esplanade.
Good luck and nice work starting planning this early.

Whenever I see that photo, a movie plays in my head of Elliot slowly lowering the binoculars and muttering "Mother...Of...Gawd" having spotted hundreds of stampeding naked hippies emerging from a roiling cloud of dust at a dead run for the trash fence.

Re: Gate line up.
I'm moving this over to Transportation, since that's a better fit. As others have said, the gate times for the 2015 event have not yet been announced. The best time to show up is at or shortly after that time. People who arrive before the gates open will frequently find themselves placed into a temporary overflow lot, where they'll stay until after all the people who waited until the gates opened get to go through before them. As you do some looking through the boards, and as we get closer to the event you'll see more info posted about planning the details of your arrival in BRC.
I'm usually conflicted for the next several months. On one hand, I can't wait to get out there. On the other, I wish I had more time to work on stuff

Wear loose clothing with buttons down the front. And no pants. I hear flashing Gate is in this year.
Re: Gate line up.
If you don't have a ticket you don't need a gate
I'm the MAN in a truck, burner who is stuck, you're in luck! I'll whip out my BIG tow chain and not charge you, not even one lousy buck!

I be shamed and blushed.
Re: Gate line up.
It is a very common misconception. It is kind'a like... people will say "D Lot" the way they will say "I'll get you a kleenex", when in reality they might get you a Bounty paper towel or a cloth handkerchief or whatnot. A catch-all phrase.
But for those who work there, D Lot is fairly small and is used for more specific problem-solving purposes throughout the week.

Re: Gate line up.
Thee are folks arriving on Wed and Thurs and still manage to find spots to camp. If you're arrival is anywhere near opening time, you'll be fine. Try to find an overhead shot of Black Rock City and you'll appreciate the scale of the footprint. AAMOF, I've arrived inside at 2-3 AM, parked in an open camp area just to get some rest, wake up at daybreak and proceed from there.Traiiler Park Gypsy wrote:Wow sounds sticky. as in "Got Gate?"
The next morning you will wake up pretty much your old self except that a very unusual 16 hours will have been added to your store of life experience.
