Egads on the snow, mgb! Hopefully you shift into springtime soon enough...

My gf and I were delighted to learn that my friend's bacon-themed food truck business was now partnered up with one of the food delivery website app-a-mo-thangs. We ordered in and drank beers and all was good. Man, hard to even call it a food truck business anymore... it's really taken off. He and his partner have two brick and mortar joints, three trucks, and they just recently added a little 20 foot trailer at a primo spot near the wharf. And now with them having delivery, I can indulge the place even more :D Mmmm bacon...

Pandorra and I had a good chat this morning about weekend plans and projects. With the big giant Steampunk Masquerade happening in mid-April we wanted to prioritize working on a couple clothing projects we were planning on for the playa, so we're planning on hitting up our local fabric wholesale joint on Saturday morning. We were also rambling on about various bits of camp infrastructure, boring stuff like power strips and extension cords but it's nice to both be on the same page there. I've got lots of errands and tinkering to do today, so off I go. Cheers!

I had both a DAMMIT BILL and WHEW! moment earlier today when one of my 2 terabyte hard drives crashed on me. Not a minor problem, but boom... hardware failure. DAMMIT BILL!

The whew moment came twice. First, everything was backed up (and is backed up hourly). And second, the drive in question was part of a RAID (group of drives working as a team, for those not familiar with the term). A few years ago, that would have really been a major catastrophe with me crying and lamenting over art or photos or music or something I couldn't get access to, and spending a ridiculous amount of time trying anything I could think of to try and resurrect even a part of the drive long enough for me to try and salvage some of its contents. My gf and I have ridden that merry-go-round enough times (before we met and since we've been together), and thankfully we've got technology working for us these days. Because everything is backed up hourly, the risk of loss is incredibly small. And because the drive that died was part of a RAID, we didn't even have any down-time. I popped the drive out, and when the replacement drive arrives in the morning I'll pop that in and the software will test and rebuild everything on its own. Crisis averted.

Now it's back to work tinkering on design projects for the playa :)

Yes, it can be quite cozy here. Lotsa comfy furniture, good heat, rural, low stress. Here, let help you out of that jacket......

Spent the day soaking at Harbin yesterday. Washed away a load of tensions from earlier in the week.

Dives into the NEB hoping that YG is doing well.

*raises hand, waves and smiles*

Harbin Hot Springs is only 19 miles from my house, and I have started going there once in a while. It is actually a few miles closer than the gym with indoor pool in Lakeport.
Harbin costs more money, but offers so much more. Only drawback is that the lap pool is a bit on the cold side. With all that hot water bubbling out of the ground, I expected to find more of it in the lap pool also.
On the other side of the coin, the indoor pool in Lakeport requires bathing costumes, which is rather silly, and practically unheard of at Harbin; and Lakeport's heated indoor pool is much shorter than Harbin's only-slightly-heated outdoor pool.
So, I make use of both facilities at various times.

Though, lately I have been recovering from a chest cold, so no exercise at all. And I'm behind schedule with preparations for the Theme Camp application. Need to work on our LNT Plan today.

Hot springs sounds nice, a friend of mine from way back works up there (though I think she's off on a trek to Bali at the moment). I've never been to Harbin myself, but from her posts on the interwebz these last few years it sounds like she's really been enjoying life up there.

We've had a fun day being arty dorks. A couple errands in the morning gave us an excuse to visit a favorite breakfast spot in the neighborhood, and then tinkered around on a few projects we've been working on. Now we're on a lounging around and enjoying a drink or two course, soon to be followed by the making a nice dinner course.

Enjoy your weekends, I hope you get a change to push along whatever projects you're working on, or recharging your batteries, or both!

I was up way too early. Not sure why, I'll blame the over-zealous cat who thought that the earliest morning light meant it was time to bring over her favorite toy (little mouse at the end of a long cord attached to a stick) and start meowing excitedly. Hard to be mad at that, she's such an excitable little cutie. After playing for a while and tiring her out, my mind was racing with ideas for a couple projects, so I poured a drink and started scribbling.

When the girl woke up, I made some cinnamon-raisin toast and have been relaxing a bit.

Good Morning Bar Peeps. Those kabobs look very good to me this am. Please excuse the odor, I've been harvesting spring onions. My backyard is full of them this year, go figure. :? :coffee:

Washoe Valley got about 4 inches early, early Saturday morning. Same with the new freeway between Reno and Bowers mansion. Nothing compared to what New England has received and not a drought buster, but every little bit helps. Wing plows are so cool.
There was also patchy dense fog that came and went a few times.

Indeed. Wing plows ARE cool. And be glad you're not having to V-plow. That's a tough one even for the heavyweight trucks. The trains have no problem, though:

I can't see not using one, unless traffic conditions or highway width dictates it, and as long has the driver following picks up the windrow .

Morning bar.

Nothing exciting here. Larry was home so he painted the kitchen window and the cubby above it. We plan on a cubby/cupboard section a week until the kitchen is repainted. I have too much crap, and he does not have enough time, to do it all in one shot. The new bright white paint looks marvelous, but really brings out the dingy in the chalk whitewash over beige over pink over yellow of the older surfaces. I also new the ceiling redone (yay, textured ceiling on plaster), and new wallpaper. Yikes, that stuff is three layers deep at least. 80s orchard over 70s avocado and gold over 60s gray and pastel geometric. Eek.

And then there's the front room, the hall, and the basement shower, and the giant basement living room. And the roof and all the exterior trim. Sigh.

Well, AntiM, sounds like a project that will be wonderful when done! at least you can see the fruits of your (and Larry) labor! nice fresh paint and all that. And for extra fun, lacquer something in a small enclosed space!!!
"Lucy in the sky with Diamonds" indeed!

we're getting a little off and on rain and snow........drop in the bucket regarding the drought, but still nice for the flowers.

Overcast and a bit of rain expected here today as well. Spent yesterday watching some really good tennis at our club. Mixed doubles. Very warm in the sun and cool in the shade. Beautiful restful day. Then saw the Warriors on TV come back from 26 points down to beat the Celtics in Boston by 5 points. What a fun team to watch!

Bunch of odds and ends to do today, so I better get started

But first dives into the NEB with a non-spillable cup of :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

I'm reading and studying and planning for gasoline storage in camp. They require secondary containment capacity of 110% now. In other words, a 55 gallon drum must sit in a secondary containment tub with 60 gallon capacity.
For a moment I figured I would step up to such a 55 gallon drum, delivered to camp, but I'm coming to my senses. I have quite a few 5 gallon jugs already, and I can put those in common tote-boxes.

Probably be sweeping and/or patching potholes.

Elliot, the guidelines (and that's what they are, on the Theme Camp Resource Guide) haven't changed. What you're noticing is where multiple pages from the old site have been combined in some different way when they migrated it to the new site last fall. The first year I started giving thought to proper fuel storage and handling I freaked out too.... but those guidelines weren't new then, either. Don't let the resource guide spook you, the actual placement questionnaire will open up in a couple days' time and you can start dialing in the details of your camp plan as you peruse and complete the form.

In other news, I had a pretty good day for a Monday. My head is killing me, but that's mostly from the hardcore geekery of working on language translation from English to Sumerian for some art projects. It's tricky (to put it mildly), but I managed to get everything translated that I wanted and needed for current projects, and learned a bit more along the way. Now my brain is feeling melty, time to soak it in some ice cold vodka to get things back to normal :D

Hot toddies and spiced rum for the cold people, ice cold drinks for the warm people! Cheers!
