Stoked! First Burn! - from Boulder Colorado

Post by TundeRose » Mon Mar 02, 2015 10:25 am

Hey! I'm BEYOND stoked to be joining the Burn Family this 2015!
I just turned 35, and it's TIME- this is the year =)
I'm a full time yoga teacher, handstands are my specialty, Thai massage, dance, and more handstands....
I am solo at the moment, and wondering about any input on finding a camp.
Thanks in advance for your feedback. Looking forward to connecting.
Tunde :D

If you can repair bicycles while standing on your hands, you are hired!

And welcome to ePlaya!

I visited Boulder a few years ago -- the last year they held the Kinetic Sculpture Race at the reservoir. Very nice town.

You are probably already reading the First-Timer Information, specially the Survival Guide? And you are signed up for Jack Rabbit Speaks?

Welcome to ePlaya!

We're gonna need pics of the handstand. I don't think we can believe you can do them without picture proof.

Welcome, Tunde!

Your best bet would likely be to connect with other Colorado burners - there are plenty of Colorado-based theme camps that go, and it's usually easier to join a camp if they can get to know you in person first. Some of them also go to Apogaea, the Colorado regional held in June, and that might be a good way to figure out if they're really a fit for you.

Are you on the local mailing lists/facebook groups already?

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

I'm sure a number of camps would value a yoga instructor / thai massage expert. HeeBeeGeeBee Healers comes to mind as a possible fit, but there are bound to be others. Check the 2015 Theme Camps forum, now and in a month or two as camps start coming together. Please note that theme camps vary quite a bit in commitment (there is no one, single standard) and that theme camps are not a must, especially if you are an experienced camper, or strongly independent. And be careful not to work too hard your first Burn.

Welcome!

Yeah, the HeeBees were the first group I thought of as well, especially since they're organized in part out of the Boulder area (they were originally a Colorado camp, though they now come from all over).

May or may not be a good fit, as they do have significant camp fees/expectations of effort, and they've had registration going for a while so may already be full, but it doesn't hurt to check them out. If nothing else, it's a good set of local burner contacts to have.

Tunde, be sure to check your PMs; I've sent you their contact info.

Agreed! . . . I remember being both impressed and surprised by how much they ask of their practitioners (their services have proved invaluable to people I care about) but think the fee and work-load could be a bit much for most new Burners.

Yep, definitely. Though to be fair, that does come with access to significant infrastructure, really good food, and some of the best people you could ever care to meet.

I camped with them my first couple of burns back in '03/'04, while we were still working out how best to achieve that balance of contribution. Got to visit and help out there quite a bit, and came away seriously impressed with how they've evolved.

HeeBeeGeeBee is often part of a village Nectar, which has camps varying year by year like the contact improv camp. Any of those camps may be a fit. And...welcome to our corner of ePlaya!

Hey, so excited for you. I would cast about. You're more than likely to get a few offers. It's really all about finding who you're comfortable with. Stop by Wanderers camp for toxic tonic and hot dogs and a chill, fun time.

Hey Tunde!

Did you ever find a camp? We're still looking for a yoga teacher...
