Burner Friendly RV parks in Reno?

Post by louisacrystal » Sat Feb 28, 2015 10:46 pm

I'm wondering if anybody knows of any Burner friendly RV parks to stay at in Reno? We usually travel from the northwest and stay a few days at Summer Lake hot springs on our way to and from BRC. They are very Burner friendly. But this year on our way home we're going to be headed toward Santa Fe New Mexico to visit family. We're planning on staying couple days in Reno to do laundry replenish supplies and check out the town. We don't want to end up someplace that looks down upon Burners, any suggestions?
I have gone out to find myself. If I get back before I return, Please keep me here until I get back. Thank you!

Not sure abour RV Parks but the Sands is burner friendly, has parking for RV's is inexpensive and the pool will be full of Burners. There is usually a Burner Special price, keep an eye on Eplaya someone will bring it up. I think I paid $25.00/ night last year.

the grand sierra resort (GSR) has an RV park. They also do big burner style after party as well and lots of burners stay there too.

Though I'm partial to the Sands, I don't think the sands has actual RV hook ups or I've never seen them.

When I started going in 1999 Burning Man was a gathering best not mentioned in mixed company. To say Reno looked down on Burners was an understatement. There were several movements to get rid of the event.

Today I think you would have a hard time finding any business(besides various truck rentals)in Reno that did not welcome, with open arms, citizens of BRC.And each year it gets better.

I might be interested in a new place to park overnight, several days before event-week. I've been using the Alamo truckstop, but last year they asked me to park in the employee parking lot, so as not to take up an 18-wheeler space, and I had a bit of a struggle getting 65 feet of bus and trailer out of that lot in the morning.

I suppose I could park at the Wadsworth store, where there is lots of room, but with my luck there would be a brand new "no parking" sign there.

So a cheap RV spot would be a good thing. I don't need any hookups.

Just a suggestion, what about one of the truck stops in Fernley? The new one at the east Fernley exit has limited pull through truck/large vehicle parking. I believe they own the large parking lot across the street from the truck stop as well
I don't know if they're "burner friendly" though

I suppose I could try Fernley, but want to avoid taking up a truck parking space. I drove trucks for 27 years, and I remember how hard it could be to find a parking spot in the evening. I always felt a bit guilty parking at the Alamo.

The Love's truck stop has a big vacant lot at the end of their entrance road.

Plenty of room and very quiet.

I stay there every year. 8)

I agree with lucky and the gsr. If you don't need RV hook ups, there's hundreds of acres of free parking in the gsr lot.
Just a side note, if you use the 2nd St/Glendale Ave entrance at the traffic light across from walmart, beware of the dip while entering the driveway. If you enter it to fast it'll rip an axle off. Little exaggeration but it's bad.

Hmmm.... Google StreetView shows it! And as I thought I remembered, there are dirt areas both before and after the store ("I-80 Smoke Shop", apparently). Maybe I will just pull out in the dirt under those trees. That's the spot I had in mind when I mentioned Wadsworth earlier.

Edit to add photo...

Sounds like a nice place. How early does one have to reserve a spot? Like, now? Assuming my plans don't fall through, I'll need a place to park my moose the night before Gate (it's a really long drive from home).

I stayed at the Wadsworth park a couple of years before I started using the Sands for that last hot shower. I'm not sure if the dirt areas around the Smoke shop are owned by the smoke shop or not. I'd be a good neighbor & ask before just parking there.
