Email about a duplicate ticket order

Post by Sgt Pepper » Thu Mar 05, 2015 7:50 pm

I received an email from [email protected] about my recent ticket purchase. The email stating I must provide my ID and confirmation numbers on my orders (Yes, I purchase tickets during the presale and the individual sale). I am very nervous sending this type of information with out some sort of confirmation this is legit.

Has anyone received an email like this or have any information about this????

Start of the email:

Greetings Joel,
We are contacting regarding your Burning Man ticket order.
In a review of our sales records it was discovered that there may be multiple orders under your name for Burning Man 2015 tickets. This could potentially mean that you've exceeded the stated limit of two (2) $390 priced tickets per person. In order to confirm that these orders were in fact placed by two different people we will need you to provide us with proof of your identity and your order confirmation number.

Yes, it's legit. There's a discussion over at /r/BurningMan regarding this.

Ticketing responded and suggested to black out your ID number.

Yep. Totes legit.

How many tickets did you buy all up?

Buying in the pre-sale shouldn't have been an issue for buying two more in the individual sale.

Thank you for the quick response!

Ticket sales seems to make the whole process near impossible - impossible!!!

Just 2 during pre-sale and 2 during the individual sale.

You should be fine then, it could just be that someone with the same name as you also from your town bought tickets too and they're just checking you are different people. It makes sense that a few totally innocent folks will have turned up on their flagged list and obviously this ID check is designed to filter them out so only the people who actually did try to scam the system have their tickets revoked.

If there was any question regarding ordering too many tickets they would have been cancelled today. Apparently this already happened and notices went out. Some people are not too happy about it even though they did not read clear information posted in emails and on the ticket sales page.
