Playa Dust.....
At around 4:00 - 5:00 most afternoons (when the weather is warm) my down the road neighbor sits out in his shop and drinks one or two beers. For the last year or so I occasionally have some O'Doul in the refrigerator and I grab two bottles and head down to join him. We don't talk about anything much, mostly the weather, farming and anything else that does not take much effort.
I special ordered 3 cases of O'Doul in cans and carried them with me to BM last year. Since I drank Gatorade most of the time, I came back home with 2-1/2 playa dust covered cases and carried them down to his shop so that I would have a supply on hand.
Last week, I finally realized that the cans have special playa dust smell and taste to them. Oh what pleasure it is to sniff the top of the can and the memories began ricochet around in my head.
Sadly, I only have three cans remaining and I can hardly wait until August. Somehow the memory of the long and tiring 4,400 drive out and back do not seem as painful as they once were.
In the meantime, I will treasure the smell and taste of the playa three more times.

Re: Playa Dust.....
I know exactly what you mean - the dust gets on everything, including any cans of <beverage of choice> you may not have used up. Last year we brought more than we needed, we don't usually have trouble sharing extra beers but as it turned out our neighbors had several kegs on offer throughout the week and so we came home with a bunch. Mmmm dusty beer...

Re: Playa Dust.....
I love that smell. When I turn on the air conditioner in my truck, I get that smell for a bit. My wife hates it. All my burning man bins smell like that as well and sometimes I go out to the shed and crack one open just to get that puff of dust in my face.

OMG that is so true. I brought back two six-packs and have savored each and every one of them. I wish I had saved one. I still have a water bottle and a cooler that are covered with dust and I can't bring myself to clean them.

I totally get it about the sentimental value, but I really hate playa dust. I mean really fucking hate it. That shit is so corrosive... I've ruined really nice trucks and equipment, every year I brung that boat I have to completely redo the electric system, i think that stuff can even rust plastic.
Fucking hate playa dust.

Meathunter I love it too. I went out to the hut and grabbed a baggie of it, (yes, I had a baggie of playa 'just in case'). With every intention to mail you a surprise pkg I ran off to the PO. I didn't realize it weighed just over a pound. When the clerk said nine dollars and change I balked. I guess you're a $5 friend. It's still in my car but the moment has passed. I saved a dime and you know I was thinking of you. win, win. If anyone needs a small envelope of playa just let me know. I'm the queen of bad ideas.
The big pkg looked like a pound of illegal drugs. The small envelope will look like something even worse. Meanwhile I'll just stick my snout in the bag and dream.

Ratty,
You may be a $5.00 package, but you are a $1,000,000.00 friend.
Somehow that did not come out quite like I meant it, but my intentions were admirable.
See you in the dust,

The catman. O'douls isn't even 'near-beer'. It's non-alcoholic. I think I'll try one at the bar at work. We sell more glasses of grapefruit juice than we do O'douls. It must be foul.

I still have one left. In the refrigerator waiting for some kind of magic moment when I will crack it in celebration...motskyroonmatick wrote:I relish the dusty beer I bring back in much the same way. Good stuff.
...then pour it on the ground.
Because it's a year old and was sitting in my car last year for a week under my seat.

Not dust but.... I ran out of hand soap in my bathroom yesterday so decided to use the little bottle of Dr Bronner's peppermint soap I bought on a whim after the burn. It smelt like adventure!

Yeah not feasible. It is a worthy sacrifice to mark a notable occasion.

Postage about $5. But ok, it's still in the refrigerator if you should change your mind.
