Okay, avatar totem pole: I was imagining maybe gallon milk jugs decorated with square pictures of the avatars, strung on a rope, attached to a pully system so that new avatars could be added to the conversation on the bottem end, then pullied up as more are added on, to be popped off when they reach the top somehow; kind of same effect as scrolling along a thread and new postings on the bottom ? We could each bring our own avatar to add on.

I wasn't actually serious (you cutie) when I suggested an alternating totem gigglesport... it'll be fine. I think we should just make this thing classic looking, like a real Native American totem or something... I mean sure 5 gallon buckets break down for storage, but do we really want something like that for a totem? I mean I'll make the room to drag a real fucking totem pole up there if someone can come up with it. And if I can't get it back on the truck when I am leaving we'll burn the fucking thing.gigglesnort wrote:Okay, avatar totem pole: I was imagining maybe gallon milk jugs decorated with square pictures of the avatars, strung on a rope, attached to a pully system so that new avatars could be added to the conversation on the bottem end, then pullied up as more are added on, to be popped off when they reach the top somehow; kind of same effect as scrolling along a thread and new postings on the bottom ? That all depends on where on top I am at...
There are different stages of being on top.
In all actually seriousness let's just say this pole is 10 feet high... now who really wants to be on top when the people down at 5 or 6 feet or shorter won't even be able to see you?
Hmm, now that I think of it, yes I do want to be on top. I'll volunteer to be on top. I actually don't care where I am at on the pole.
So I do have one request gigasnort... when you start carving this thing, it's essential that you carve it from a tree that is still alive. This is an Indian belief. Seriously, totems must be started from the tree while they are still alive, otherwise they lose their magic (dead magic).

I missed this one GuinivereElise. I'm sorry.GuinivereElise wrote:Ummm, Tony. For someone who doesn't advocate violence, you sure are quick to become verbally violent in your expression of non-violence. Now, why does THAT seem wrong?? Does this mean that, if I'm camped in eplaya camp with you, that you'll verbally berate me but just won't hit me?? I've seen that you're quick to judge and quick to jump... I have to say, it makes me wary....samtzu wrote: Calicoboy is welcome, but if he gets the shit beat out of him (or he beats the shit out of somebody) it happens somewhere else, and it is too bad.
I do not go for physical fights. You want to fight get the fuck out. I'm not into fighting in our house at all. He can show up and if he starts anything physical he can get the fuck out and stay out. If you cannot control yourself and feel the need to get physical... get the fuck out. Period. Or do the previous thing. go to thunderdome. I'm sorry but the fighting cannot be welcome. Someone second this for me.
I can live with this. Except NO VIOLENCE. PERIOD.samtzu wrote: Agreeable anarchy. There are no rule except to be polite to each other and accept each other like you do here.
I do not go out on the playa to see physical conflict. Agree to disagree, agree to get the fuck out if you feel the need to come to fists.
These are my preferences. Come back people.
(Perhaps Sam's comment was said tongue-in-cheek?)
I personally would like to camp in a peaceful surrounding, and I am hoping that if this camp in fact happens that is the way it will be. The last person you are going to be hearing from verbally in this camp is me . I am not going to berate you and I am sorry that my forwardness may have made you wary. Believe it or not, I am a totally reserved person.
I just don't want to get in a situation where I am going to be putting a ton of effort down (which if I am invloved with this project is exactly what will happen - most likely I will do at least as much if not more work than anyone else does, and I will be enjoying it) and then have an uncomfortable environment of the likes I am not spending any more time there than I have to. IE to change clothes, eat, download my CF cards... whatever... and then leave. I don't want this for me, and I certainly do not want this for you.
I may come across as argumentative sometimes on these forums, but you and I both know that it is a different world when you are able to face someone in person. Especially on the playa. Many things can be conveyed with a simple expression that words can never adequately describe.
In all reality if you are in this camp you will most likely see very little of me, and hear even less. But I can guarantee you if something needs to be done that is when the exception to these probabilities will be made.
Anyway, if nipping it in the bud is going to prevent something, then preventing it from budding is only going to be that much more effective.
Again, I apologize for not replying to this earlier. I missed it.

I was (half) kidding about a dance floor... it was in reference to the sock hop. Which is ironic because it is you DVD that I have been accused of being the sock of, due to similar names I suppose. Hopefully, by next month that rumor will be dispelled forever.
Anyway... I do think a dance floor would be kind of cool, whether plywood, or whatever else might work. See what comes up.
The totem is something altogether different, someone else's idea.

Some one has accused you of being me?
Ha. There is only one me. I am an original, even though I think everyone is.........well those that don’t follow ...........never mind.
The Last Real Burner has been accused of being me. In both cases I have to admit it's rather flattering. LRB and you are rather smart. LRB as far as I'm concerned is a genius and the smartest one on this board ever, never to be surpassed.
Hey look, It shouldn’t be all that bad, usually when I come up with an idea on this board it takes a year for anyone to get it, so I figure you must have something. Someone must be jealous of you as they are of me.

Ok,
I haven't said anything here since I will probably stick with Hushville. I did however write up a fairly long thing covering shade, food, water and whatnot, I then decided to wait and see if the active members came up with the points I was making, by and large you all have. However; !. I will bring by bottles of whatever you all decide to serve, 2. I will throw in for any kind of fundraising you all do, 3. I will drop off my practice 'chucks for samtsu to use on roudy people (they don't really hurt but done right they sting like an SOB).
Totem, rather than do one for eveyone, put mutliple people on the 5 gals and spiral them down or, even easier, everybody get a 1 gal milk jug and make their own and hang them side by side around the shade structure. Run either el-wire, led's or just plain xmas lights into the jugs so at night the pctures are backlit. This would also provide ambiant lighting.
Policy things, if you cut off participation at any point you will be facing folks showing up more or less at random asking where the can camp, this will be esp. bad if you get a spot anywhere near the first couple of arcs, if you decide to set up out in the boonies it won't matter. If you have a defined area and you accept everybody there will be active members who show up late that have no camping space. This year, since I was camped both near the road and the potties I got this more than once, that is, people who were not registered with Hushville but who expected to camp with us. In daylight I passed the problem off to our 'mayor' but at 3 in the morning I had to deal with it myself and even then ( when possible) I sought help from the 'old timers'. This year Hushville had a policy that if you were not registered with the village you were out of luck and I had to turn several people away and spend more than a little time helping people who had registered to find a place.
Statement: If this idea continues there will be lot of people, esp. first timers, who will be looking for any kind of established camp to join and since this concept is built around the e-playa you should expect a lot of 'I want to join' between March and August.
Before March you all should, and make very plain what is expected of pariticpants, in terms of food, water, monatary participation and general interactivity.

I like playing with fire.
ah! thanks, silver! good stuff.
i was just thinking about this today... i have some materials from Cafe Village where i have been the last couple of years (made up of center camp workers/volunteers - everyone from construction, to coffee crew, to sound engineers for the stages) and they are way on top of the organizational stuff. i would happily take this part on, as logistics are my specialty.
basically, there is a cutoff date for village members, but more importantly is a cutoff *number* of said members. if someone backs out after the deadline, the spot can be filled.
also the village itself is pre-mapped, with spaces reserved for the bar, communal dome, burn barrell, bike rack, and everyones own space. the cars are all parked along all the perimeter, except the street frontage. i think this is particularly brillant as it defines the space, keeps cars out of the main village areas, and helps block wind & dust. there are foot paths marked that wind through the village.
first we need to decide on location and size. then we can set a number.
yee-haw!

I've taken a couple of your main points silver - good ones I may add:
This fund raising knowledge is something we should all consider tapping into. I'm for this in any capacity and we will most like be calling upon you as well as anyone else who may possess this kind of expertise.
It has also been mentioned/suggested that we have a map of the camp. In my opinion this is essential and should happen. It really needs to because of the differences in the times of when who shows up. People working on other projects are going to be early, and those coming from long distances will most likely be late. Both should have the same rights to reserving their space, and knowing precisely where it is at.
I would imagine that the bar is going to be located somewhere central along with any other forms of entertainment, dance floors, what have you, etc. A separation from sleeping areas [I love the walls (made with 4x4s, steel cable, and material: http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic. ... &start=105) stuart so graciously provided the pictures of. Those would be cool to keep the visitors from trouncing through the sleeping/tent area. (IE- lets keep the cats as well-herded as possible). People who prefer a little quiet may wish to choose an area out in the nether regions of camp, while those who enjoy the noise can camp closer to central. And I believe it was Tisha who mentioned having the vehicles around the perimeter (I love this visual, kind of like a ring of covered wagons), probably lining each side. Perhaps the larger vehicles can be parked in one of the designated parking areas on the outskirts as well.
The last thing I believe we want is to create any disappointment for anyone who wishes to join the camp. If you are interested the time is now, or as soon as possible, to PM samtzu and let him know you are willing, able and ready to participate.
We've discussed having a cut off time for joining the camp. We have also decided that that date will be established following the announcement of the theme, and sale of tickets. I'd assume some kind of registration will become mandatory before this date expires. For the time being we are allowing it to develop/incubate/fester, whatever you wish to call it. Then we'll get to the nitty gritty down and dirty details, and go from there.Silver 2 wrote:Ok, (...)

I prefer shwag that is either a necklace or practical. Lighters are good. So are cups.
Hey! How about "Here's your nice cup of shut the fuck up" glasses. That's just a sticker on a glass with a handle, but it would really be a good shwag. Encourage people to carry around their own glasses rather than just consume disposable ones.
I really like the "Brutal to the Clueless" theme for ePlaya Camp, with the Clue Bowl of couches, and force newbies to prove to us that they have SOME kind of clue before we let them escape.
muah hah hah
Now take off your pants.
I'll be in my blanket fort until further notice.

Here's some woodworking projects in need of volunteers. I'm allergic to skillsaws, but I just looooove staple guns.
Evap Pond, by invitation only
Group shower! With no fucking walls!
Water Bar. Way fucking useful to have. Basically a shelf where people stow their water.
I like the totem of water jugs with avatar drawings. Mine will have Pooping Man of course. We could alternate socks and jugs. Or buckets for a select few.
