Canada Sources

Post by vantim » Sun Mar 08, 2015 3:21 am

Now that I actually have a ticket (only one in my camp so far), I'm starting to put together a budget for our first-time camp. I've done the research and found sources for everything I need, but I'm having trouble finding a few things close to home (Vancouver, Canada). Worst case is I ship to the border in Washington state and drive down to pick stuff up, but I would love to find as much as possible in Canada to save the time and money to make those trips. Wondering if anyone has budget-friendly sources Canadian source for any of the following:

1. YSBW-style canopy fittings for 1 inch EMT conduit.

2. Shade cloth (for angled sides of flattop shade structure)

3. Solar panel (100-150W) and supplies

Thanks!

I'm not in BC, but agricultural supply companies should have 1&2. 3 You might look up local solar advocates or businesses like vrec.ca to find an excess panel left from an installation. Boat stores sell complete systems too. Solar today is a mass product - home construction material stores, the company that Bezos owns, etc.
There are many discussions on ePlaya about solar.

We are in Alberta and are having a very hard time finding some stuff here. ITs brutal to be honest.

YSBW does not ship to Canada, while their prices are low, once you factor in shipping to a buddy then shipping up and possible duties your hozzed.

Creative Shelters does ship to Canada, but their prices are roughly 20% more expensive than YSWB, then there is shipping. We checked to Edmonton, Alberta and its roughly 108 bucks USD.
So our order, + shipping and exchange = 1000 bucks, not including EMT from a local source.
This is a 20x20 shade structure.

Not to mention they each carry slightly different parts, such as the 6 way that you can get at YSBW but you cant get at Creative Shelters.

So with that said we might just have to organize a group order to Canada :D

Do you know a welder?

Those pieces would not be that hard to fabricate locally, and probably cheaper that all that shipping.

YSBW has good pics to work from. 8)

At 1000 for 20x20, you might look at a supplier of greenhouses you can find by searching gothic and aluminet. They also supply shade houses at roughly the same price, but including 2" pipe, much tougher than emt. Does involve more wrenching to assemble. If you are fabricating, you might want to galvanize after welding, the playa dust is corrosive. I can't believe there aren't agricultural suppliers for this in Canadia.

That particular supplier is burner friendly even though it is a small part of their wholesale business.
