I got the written offer today and gave notice at my current job - 9 days left at the clown factory.

so woohoo!!
Wait... Ft. Collins is where they make clowns?!?!?!

Shit. That's a long way to drive for target practice. :x

Well, excellent news about the job. :coffee:

One week left at current living space. I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna make the deadline for getting completely out, so I'll hope to bargain for just getting out of the house, proper, and come back the next weekend or two to get garage/workshop details. Spent all last weekend busting ass, moving stuff to storage units back down in Denver. Yes, plural: units (sigh)
So much shit I've accumulated over the past 5.5 years; most of it tools, computer stuff and photo stuff but jesusrollerbladingchrist do I have a lot of materials. I'm having the waves of reckoning and am actually considering calling one of those commercial junk hauling companies and being done with it. It didn't help that one of my unfinished bar carts took a gash out of my head when I bent down to pick something else up. I have a nice mark that, if I used a Sharpie and drew a couple of eyes, could resemble a frown. Might be worth it.

In the FML/irony dept: For the past 17 years I've lived in Colorado, every time I've needed storage space I've used the same place down in LoDo. Good folk, a little higher in price than many others but overall a pretty good deal (notwithstanding the classic rock station on the speaker system that inevitably always seems to be doing a 'double-shot' of my least favorite artists, every time I'm there). Same manager this whole time, too. So, a week or so ago I go down, get myself a unit. This past weekend I started moving stuff, got one load down and realized I'm gonna need a second unit, and bigger at that. So I go back to the office; Sam says he has a 10x20 open and let's go take a look at it.... we shuffle on out to the warehouse and walked up to the very same damned unit I had with my then-wife, ten years ago. I'm like "Are you FUCKING kidding me."
There's a message the universe is trying to send, here. Not sure what it is or what the angle is. I'll just roll with it and try not to get too worked up about it.

One thing that's different this time 'round is, I've committed to using the vertical aspect of the space much more efficiently by building some simple shelves that sit about 6 feet high, 2 feet deep and 8 feet long, based on some plywood I scored from craigslist last fall that was going to be used for other projects. I've also been given a little bit of outdoor storage space by a local artist living the fucking dream, lemme tell ya... he has an entire vintage warehouse the block next to mine at work, with the most amazingly organized and awesomely-stocked workshop I have ever seen. Dude just spends all day making shit and making a living. Crap everywhere but organized. His apartment is carved out of the middle, has woodburning stove and skylights, and part of it was even a speakeasy back during Prohibition (it's got decorations that are disturbingly similar to another well-known downtown martini bar from that era, as well as the curved false corners that burlesque girls would pop out of for shows, and use to change outfits). He works with us on projects occasionally - like rehabbing some of the original warehouse doors from our space that we're putting on rollers and using to separate the production studio from the ad agency and chocolate shop (yes, we have a damned chocolate shop in the front) - and every time I come back from being over there helping him, my boss jabs me about having "a good time on my play date".
It's a maker's wet dream, over there at Randy's.
And then there's a welding guy on the next corner north of us that, apparently, let a friend of his build a giant steel robot or something (haven't been able to get a clear fix on just what) that went to the Burn not too long ago. So yeah, I may have lost my workspace but on the flip side I'm surrounded - daily - by people making shit and gettin' it done; lots of resources around me.
"So, I got that going for me..." - Carl Spackler

The "Me and My Mouth" department:
We had the monthly First Friday thing last Friday. The Friday prior to that, I suggested we do something a little different and maybe put up a timelapse rail, capture the whole event in that fashion. Oh, what's that? We have all this motion control stuff and no timelapse rail? We'll have to build it?
heh. whoops.

We got it done. Just barely. Solid motherf****r, though.

HI (((MDF))) snuck into the NEB for a special snuggle with you.

The Burnal was great fun. The nonstop music was profoundly danceable. And the energy was so very over the top. Sorry I missed you, ASD. Ratty and I had a chance to cuddle a bit just before we left at about 11:30. The line to get in as we left was very long.

Good morning, Bar! Wow, seems early in the year to be so toasty in the morning in Nevada.. is that unusual for you guys?

Temps in the bay were a few degrees above average last weekend, but I think are back to normal now. We even wound up getting a little rain last night. It could have been raining at points during the day, too... I was up to my eyeballs in a project until 2:30am and didn't get a chance to go outside. Then when I did it was great. Late night, so the streets were pretty empty. I had to make a quick trip to the all-night market, and someone in the lot with their car windows down and the tinny car stereo blasting Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" on repeat when I went in (and came back out) added a nice, surreal quality to the moment.

It's back to sunny this morning, and I still feel groggy. In the meantime, back at it! More stuff to do, plus tending to a sick Pandorra.

Well we are the "high" desert but this is ridiculous...drought :( Northwestern Nevada was declared an extreme disaster zone this past year because of the drought. Cant remember what agency declared this but farmers are probably looking to get some FEMA funds.

It was 57 in Dayton this morning at 4.00am. Got to VC around 5;30 where I'm working this week and the next two and it was 49 and a stiff breeze made it down right cold. Some sprinkles mid morning made the highway wet so we couldn't do what we were supposed to.....fill cracks on Geiger Grade.
But commuting to VC beats the hell out of the drive to Reno :D. 9.9 miles as opposed to 47.7, each way

Yup. Was outside, spraying the burr clover, vacuuming cobwebs out of a shed, building some bicycle art, going for a walk, visiting with neighbors,... even took a siesta in the sun to get a start on my base tan.

Oh... and after all that, drank a cold PBR with Dust on it -- one of the last leftovers from last year.
