The Temple Of Promise

Post by trilobyte » Thu Mar 12, 2015 8:21 am

As posted in the Burning Blog and mentioned in the Jack Rabbit Speaks newsletter, Burning Man is excited to announce the selection of the temple design for 2015.... The Temple Of Promise.

Image

If you want the complete details of the announcement (and a couple more pictures), check out Jon Mitchell's great blog post, but here are a few of the details. It'll reach a height of 97 feet, you'll be able to walk in and through the curled shape that encloses the courtyard, and there will be a stand of trees in the center. Participants will be able to write messages on strips of cloth and hang them on the branches, creating a weeping willow look and feel to the structures as the week progresses.

Jazz Tigan is the artist, and the temple builders include members of the team that built 2010's Temple Of Flux, as well as members of ePlaya user ChiefDanFox's crew that built the Trojan Horse in 2011, Anubis in 2012, and the Alien Siege Machine in 2014.

Unless someone from the Temple Of Promise crew chimes in on this thread, you should head on over to their Facebook page to ask the team any questions or offer them support.

Jazz Tigan is the artist behind this project. I'm so excited!

This will be a great opportunity for people in the SF Bay Area to volunteer. I think they're looking at a build location somewhere in the Oakland vicinity.

Wow! I'm fascinated. :) It's majestic without being anything I could've expected.

I notice it is of slatted construction which is probably a good thing. If that large arched entrance ended up pointed into a strong wind, it could blow the sides out without the pressure relief provided by the openings.

It will probably be one of my favorites in the more non-traditional style of the temple.

I'm super excited about this. Even if thinking about the narrowing space and you head further in makes me a little nervous!

I saw the blog post this afternoon and I started crying. Knowing that my dad's memorial will be in this amazing piece is a bit overwhelming. If I can, I am going to try to help the build crew. I live close enough to the bay area to make a day trip.

Fingers firmly crossed for you, Danibel. Getting to help built that at such a difficult time might be tremendously cathartic.

The Iron Crew will present and follow Tigan's lead. Jazz has the support of the crew who supported my vision, and it is in a word splendid. The Iron Crew is as resourceful as it is visionary. The Iron Crew does not disappoint. Godspeed to Mr. Tigan and his endeavor! Bravo!

Resurrecting this post to say that the Temple build is now in full swing and we'd looooove to get more Bay Area people helping. The build is going on in Alameda 7 days a week, noon to 10pm. Drop by anytime - plenty of work for people with no experience whatsoever! I can't imagine how amazing it will be to step inside a Temple that I've actually helped create. :D
