Arrgh! Now I'm wondering if I need to put barbed wire underneath the generator and main engine compartments to keep someone from climbing in.

:D

Naah. Install a few weed-whackers, and turn them on when you arrive at Gate.

I always have cold drinks and mini liquors ready to hand to Gate and Greeters...I Greet and you can imagine how awesome it is when someone offers up a chilled beverage after one has been in the dust and heat for an hour or more...even when you're sucking on your CamelBak.
Don't bore your friends with all your troubles. Tell your enemies instead, for they will delight in hearing about them.

I always assumed that the Tower on Gate road was for viewing of vehicle roofs/inspection for parasites.

I try to have everything unlocked and open on my RV and trailer when I'm within 5 cars of Gate. Tickets on dash. Sticker stuck to drivers side windshield. I love you Gate People and Greeters, but I've done that - here's a couple packs of smokes and I'll be on my way so you can entertain the newbs behind me.

(first I should say I appreciate Gate VERY MUCH.
Thank you very much for all your hard work).
Participants=How to prevent damage: If you have a travel trailer Gate will take you to the travel trailer and then someone else from Gate may open your car (without you there). For example in a Ford Expedition where the back can be completely and safely searched through the large hatchback window instead Gate will lift the entire back hatchback dropping your stuff (like a gas can). The solution is to KEEP YOUR CAR LOCKED until you are present to open it safely, then unlock and open individual doors for them. Your car isn't damaged by someone pulling on and trying to open a locked car door.

Many door locks on travel trailers (even new ones) are so fragile that even when locked they can easily be pulled open (breaks the lock). Tell them BEFORE they reach it that it's locked, or they may assume it just needs a good YANK. Instead I suggest installing a hasp and padlock on your trailer/RV. After Gate inspects the trailer, lock it again immediately (tell all the Gate people working on your inspection that you are locking it again-to avoid it being yanked on) otherwise while you are showing the car to Gate another Gate person may go into the trailer again.

When showing the trailer to Gate give them a safe path (tell them that it's not safe to stand on RV dinette seat backs). Do not assume they will step in the obvious places. Make it EASY for them, leave all doors open, all cabinets accessible. They need to look under the sofa, under the bed, in the closet, in the bathroom, so leave all of those propped open.

It may sound like I'm complaining about Gate, I'm not. I'm informing participants how to protect their RV, car, stuff and the Playa from accidental damage. Gate is overworked and underappreciated and they are not going to change. This kind of basic accidental damage is exactly what you agree to on the back of the ticket and many times it's actually cheap to fix (new door lock is only $100). It's not intentional vandalism.

Make sure to show your appreciation for the people who work Gate, their job is impossibly hard. They accept unopened alcohol/soda/Gatorade donations at the Gate and at the 'Black Hole' (their private bar/rest area) early in the week.

People working Gate may also lower the tailgate on your truck without asking, (perhaps not close it again) and if you are towing a trailer that can hit the tall pipe on your hitch damaging both. To prevent this keep the truck LOCKED until you can safely open and close it. If you begin to drive while hauling a trailer with your tailgate down you will total your tailgate the first time you turn.

Gate may lower the stairs on your RV to get in and these must be raised before driving. You need to do a walk around vehicles before starting again.
It isn't Gate's job to make sure your load is safe.

LRedhead, you must be an outlier case to have a vehicle damaged by gate.
I have never seen gate do anything to my vehicle without first asking permission.
In fact, they will usually ask me to open what needs to be opened and just shine a light in.

Did this happened to you and or is it rumor?
