Hey Bedlam, you could volunteer to hostess a bit at Elliott's bike repair in the nude. That would crack your shell.

I really like that idea, those cups are resilient as hell, would be cool to have one with the man on it.Joeln wrote:Cups for gifting and my mask for sandblasting a man logo onto them.
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

My "one item a day" today, as on most sunny days, was to spend 20 minutes on a beach chair in my back yard, thus building up a base tan all over.bedlamdoll wrote:That it would, that it would. We'll see how confident I'm feeling by then.
I have a good daily system: First I go for a brisk 45 minute walk, the pretext for which is to buy the newspaper. Back home, I peel off the sweaty clothes and rest-and-sun for 20 minutes in the back yard. Third, I do stretching and strength exercises for 30 or so minutes. Finally I rest by solving the crossword in the paper -- thus exercising the brain as well.

I didn't get a ticket and since my granddaughter is getting married the Friday of Burning Man I'm opting not to go this year. Guess that makes me an After Burner
But I did just receive a box of Pocket MVX Dust Masks. They will be for gifting next year.
You know it's going to be a bad day when you jump out of bed and miss the floor.

Yesterday I did some painting on 3 funky creatures that will deccorate our camp - more to do today.
Just finished the cups, got them packed up and ready to toss in the car.
They came out pretty nice...

Well, I love tents. I dragged one giant tent out to put it up and decided a 10 by 20 foot tent is not for me. Ridgeway sierra, outside poles. The next one is OK. It's a coleman, fiberglass poles, 2 rooms with a rain fly. I'll sew some fleece over the top vents and cross my fingers on it busting up in the wind. Can I strap it down where the poles cross? I absolutely hate fiberglass poles. I'll just bring extras. (Pictures tomorrow)

"They came out pretty nice" is an understatement, Joeln!!
They're Beautiful!! A cup that would be used all year long, for years!
(and, just perfect for the Playa, too)
Pretty nice, indeed!

Oh man, that's really going to class up the boxed wine!
Re: 2015 one item a day for BM list..
Negatory. The wine dispensing device has been in service for two or three years already. It is a common ice-chest, with a hole for the spigot. And I have a dozen "blue ice" thingies, which I freeze and rotate into the dispenser.
But the aluminum latch is new -- whittled from scrap and a couple bolts a few weeks ago. It keeps the spigot from slipping back into the chest, which occasionally happened before.

Re: 2015 one item a day for BM list..
As for canned beverages, I am up-classing that department... with a glass door refrigerator, such as you see between the checkout lanes in grocery stores. It has two doors, so it can be restocked from the back, to properly rotate the inventory. Of course, the cans will be pre-cooled in the regular refrigerator. But with the glass door job, people can select their beverage-flavor without holding a door open and letting so much cold out.
Alas, it is kind'a buried behind other Stuff in the barn, so no photo.

Re: 2015 one item a day for BM list..
It's been a few weeks, both since posting or since making any playa-related purchases. This morning we got a bunch of stuff ordered - an LED work light, a whole bunch of power strips, and a whole bunch of power cables. Every year we seem to run short, so we wanted to step it up and make sure we were covered. My gf also ordered another pair of goggles, and I ordered a couple LED UV bulbs to test for a decor project. It's certainly not the most exciting shopping list, but planning and building a camp involves countless little details.

Re: 2015 one item a day for BM list..
Some of the gear we ordered has already turned up, and I love the new LED UV bulbs. They screw into a regular light socket and deliver a great UV light. Much better and more even than either the old incandescent or the CFL UV bulbs (I also found that CFL UV's didn't hold up well over time, losing a lot of brightness from year to year). The bulb shape has a nice diffuser on it too, so that if you find yourself actually looking at the 'bulb' you see a larger purplish bulb-shaped glow, and you're not staring into the beady-little-eye of the single LED. And from there, it's bonus points for being much more durable, long lasting, and lower energy use than the other stuff.
Re: 2015 one item a day for BM list..
Are you willing to PM me a link to that UV lamp, Trilo?

Me, too, please. I'm the lighting designer for my regional's project, and could use some good sources.

PM sent, enjoy. I should imagine that it'll become a staple item with a few different lighting companies over the next few years.
A couple more items a day finished... got the camp layout nailed down and completed our placement questionnaire. W00t! Now my brain's all melty, must go soak it in vodka...

Re: 2015 one item a day for BM list..
I received swamp cooler parts in the mail today. A brushless fan, wire grill to fit, and a small water pump from Amazon. A little pricey, but quick. Weekend project to put it all together. I all ready have the blue foam filter, bucket with lid, elbow plastic piece, tubing, and hardware cloth. I might use window screening. Hand drill and skill saw are ready. I might cut some holes tomorrow. Getting there is half the fun !

I'm not sure if it's the lighting in the photo, but that fitting doesn't look like it's galvanized? If it isn't, see if you can return and exchange it for fittings that are. I had some fittings that weren't one year (my supplier didn't have enough on hand of a fitting I needed for a project, so I took a few of the cheaper ones), they got severely corroded and have since been replaced.

Hmmm. I didn't even think about that. I'll have to check but I bet they are not galvanized since I got them at a local flea market.

Truck rented!
Oh my God, I can't believe I'll be driving again, for the second time.
Last year, after my very first long roadtrip (as Driver), I told myself, "Driving once was enough". Then I did the math for airfare + box truck, and my savage thrift trumped my fear.
. . . But this time, since it's a pickup and not a sedan--I'm going to be able to use the rear view mirror.
