I am super excited about this year's theme! It makes me think of a Circus, freak show, carnival etc. A sexy adult one! ;)

I wanted to start an inspiration thread - post an image, link, quote or something that "Carnival of Mirrors" makes you think of. I'm hoping to bring some great costumes this year and want to get a think tank started! As my gift, I'm thinking about doing readings in my tent. Tent Tarot!

There will be thousands of circus, carnival, midway, and sideshow related camps this year... and that's not a bad thing. Each one will bring its own unique flavor and interpretation... and of course, others still won't give the theme any consideration at all and just carry on with their own art themes and motifs.

I think the theme text has a lot of rich material, if you haven't read it since it was first announced last fall you may care to take another look.

Currently I've been digging on the reflection motif. Reflecting upon ourselves as individuals, as small groups (campmates), subcultures (burners), cultures and societies and all that stuff. Where we've come from that's led us to this point, and where things are headed. That plays into the art I'm currently working on, and then later in the year I'll be working on some other stuff that's a lot less heady and more whimsical and fun.

I think i will try to recreate the carnival atmosphere captured by Gary Busey in the film Carny, though maybe without the make-up, or sitting in a box, or the dunk tank...
Tell you the truth, my little sister ran off and joined the carnival right after high-school. It won't be a stretch for BRC, what with half the folks living out of trailers and drinking canned beer. Some enterprising camp should bring a device that turns people upside down and shakes them, while other camp members collect and run off with the falling change and jewelery dropped beneath, for that real Carnival Feel.
