Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
I think I am getting old, young nephew sent me a FB friends request no big deal he is getting to be about 24 or so.
He is gay has been out for 5 or 6 years, no problem with the family at all.
Chuckle, his first post to appear in my news feed was a rather errrrrr, extremely explicit post of a one night stand.
Lovers spat.
TMI TMI TMI.....
Been afraid to see if he sent a friends request to his aunt, my sweetie, LMAO.

You might want to Instant message him that thought... with the suggestion that he may want to limit how stuff is broadcast in there by tweeking his privacy settings.
You can tell right off those to whom this just never occurs.
Pretty sure he'd thank you for it. I would.

But more entertaining to see my Sweetie whack him upside the head, LMAO....
Great suggestion though, I think I will do that.

HI gang!
it must be spring, this place is almost empty!!
I hope the GLC is/was going great!!
I am bummed, since I was offered a position that would have allowed my attendance, but could not go due to dept. business.
I'm looking forward to reports from the GLC, though.

Tulips currently look great. Our lilac sucks as usual. Nice and green but hasn't bloomed in about 12 years. Neighboring lilacs look great.
Cut the front yard for the first time this year over the weekend.

Yggy made us breakfast Marty ...
Perfect
Just took my car in for some work I was putting off.
I am thinking I need to get off my bottom and restart work/projects
not money but boredom driving me
I think it is the end of an "era"
yes, we are really now in a new time of IT , climate etc.
And I rewatched some of "Gone With the Wind"
my favorite show to dvr this year was "Empire"
I am a whitebread "Cookie"

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Good morning, Bar! The GLC was pretty phenomenal, though crazy busy. I think it was something like 425ish regional contacts and delegates from around the world all descending on San Francisco to meet, connect, and share ideas and experiences for what works (and what doesn't) when it comes to building communities, tackling challenges, and putting together events.. and also just how to bring more of the magic from Black Rock City into the rest of the world. I swear, if I ever won some kind of large lottery or suddenly found myself with an enormous amount of disposable income, I'd go on a tour of the regional events around the world. My session went well, the room was packed and there was a lot of great discussion and plenty of additional Q&A after. I was sad to have missed the fancy Saturday night dinner shindig, we had some plumbing issues back at our loft and wound up needing to stay home for that.
In addition to the session and getting to chat with so many great people from regions around the world (*waves to lurkers*), I also had a lot of fun working on Voices coverage again this year, and had some great conversations with BMHQ peeps about projects and ideas.
Now pass the waffles and the syrup... yum!

Good morning bar crowd. I brought my own drink. (Hoists a sockmonkey sippy cup.) Trillo, I wish I could better explain to people that BM is more than just hippies in the desert. Why bother. Outsiders think it's a barter community of all kinds of evil. Oh well.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Me personally? I don't really go in for preaching or trying to convert the masses. If or when people see something they're interested in, they'll usually start asking questions.
To outsiders or in casual conversation, I just describe it as an arts and culture festival. If they have an interest in learning more, I let them lead that discussion with their own questions.
My gf and I have a bunch of friends that we think would really get something out of the event, but for whatever reason they're all on different paths leading them to the desert. One might actually make it out there this year after 7 or 8 years of casual conversations and the occasional bunch of questions about some aspect of the event. Aside from being an awesome guy and creative thinker he's also got a really great eye for photography and has gone on photo safari vacations all around the world, but over the years he's either had work commitments or prior travel schedules that clashed... this might end up being the year that works out. Last week a couple other friends on Facebook that we had never thought would be interested suddenly started asking all kinds of questions. I think they saw pictures of the teapots on some steampunk fan page and thought that was one of the best things ever, and when I commented about them being one of my favorite pieces from last year I think suddenly things started to click for them. Before then they probably thought we were just dirty california hippies going to play in the desert for a few weeks a year, but now they're starting to see it as a place with big crazy art. Even funnier, in the conversation that followed it turned out they were big fans of Neverwas Haul, but had no idea it was a Burning Man thing too. Hehehe

Don't get your panties in a twist, VultureChow, I wasn't speaking for all burners. I don't think our friends know you, and I was talking specifically about my girlfriend and I. California hippies has been a running joke between us for most of the time we've known them.
