Have fun at your class, Lucky.

Sunny day here, and the birds are making a racket that is cheering me on.

Thanks, and omg that was a fun night and day. The best part, it looks like Flaming Lotus Girls has decided to bring the Serpent Mother back to the playa! She's pretty significantly upgraded over her appearance back in 2006, not only with better participant-driven poofer controls and motors/hydraulics to make her head move, but in the flames themselves. Using different types of fuel, they're able to shoot different colored jets of flames into the air, and use it to great effect during the 'egg show' - the whole thing is seriously dazzling, and it's hands down the most amazing piece of fire art I have ever seen on the playa.

Enjoy the class, Lucky!

Good Morning and Happy 420. (Especially Lucky). Couldn't sleep last night so I'm getting a late start. I'll just have a quick Bloody Mary in my travel cup. Fixes a drink with lightening speed and whooshes out the door.

Speaking of drinks, what's the favorite drink on the playa? Just deciding which mixers and what kind of beer to pack extra of as I start the months-long project of creating and filling out the packing list. Never mind, I just saw the thread over in Food & Drinks.

Ha ha! Quite a coincidence: I gave a collection of Poe, including that one, to a thrift store, not two hours ago. (With a bunch of other books, of course.)

Morning, Bar!

Back from my journey. That was different. Mostly enjoyable, but odd at times.

Poe? I share his birthday, and when I was a proto-goth tween, I memorized several of his poems. I just got a nice little pocket edition of poetry. Poe on the go, as it were.

I like the style of The Raven a lot more than I like the story. Kind'a like most songs -- I listen to how it sounds, not the actual lyrics.

yeah Poe.........in 6th grade, we had an assignment to write a short story. I was inspired by Poe and wrote mine in a similar vein..............the teacher turned it over to the principal, who wrote a note suggesting to my parents I receive counseling........hahaha.

Well, many of his short stories are disturbing. The one with the murder victim hidden under the floor, for example. Some serious psychology at work there. And he even wrote several versions of that -- victim hidden in a wall -- and that duplication alone suggests he tended to obsess over his ideas. There are many levels to his work.

The gruesome mutilation of the cat.... A more purely evil act has seldom been committed to paper. I feared Poe himself was evil until he let the cat get revenge, which sort'a redeemed him.

Hi ^Rhino! Good to see ya! Any luck yet finding a ticket?

..and Yay! for a different journey (that's a good thing right?) AntiM

We've had quite a bit of rain here in the last couple of weeks. Sure wish I could send the excess out west to you folks who could use it. Here, everyone is currently in the "cut the grass any chance you get" mode.

*pours vodka, ..again*
Ya know, I can't help but wonder about the 30 camera setup Trilo. Is that all in one scene? I'm always intrigued when people use the 3D software in a manner I'm not used to. Is this some kind of entertainment projection project? Otherwise it has me baffled and thinking about some sort of virtual permutation of the bullet-time effect, but that doesn't really explain 30 cameras, so I am still at a loss. At some point I'm going to sit down and consider the possibilities! I'm fairly certain that it will likely involve more vodka, haha!

*runs out to shed to get lawnmower*
Have a fun evening folks!

Congrats, Oldguy!

BvB, I actually wound up placing and setting 35 cameras (it's for a walk-through video of this year's camp, by the way). In the C4D app, there's a feature/function called "camera morph" which basically lets me specify a series of cameras, and then when I apply the morph it creates a nice smooth path for the camera to take, and helps me to automate some of the changes in camera settings from one shot to the next. I've done it the other way in the past, establishing a camera and then creating a path for it to follow, and then animating all the tilting/panning and settings changes individually. Using camera morph means I'm setting up more cameras, but doing far less work with the other stuff. I found that doing it that way also gave me a bunch of test renders from those camera shots I'd set up that I could use as storyboards in my video editing app... that helped me figure out the timing a bit. Now it's just a matter of letting the machines render all the frames - it should hopefully be done by the end of the week, we'll see!

hey, everyone.

I have formally decided to panic slightly early about BM this year. With the following reasons, first because of traffic issues and late arrival at the airport returning to the uk last year almost everything is stored at MDFs place AND I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT I LEFT BEHIND. Next i am flying over eveen earlier this year, to spend some quality time with my dearly beloved (who i am not engaged too in spite of my earlier misdirection on fb) so i should start paniking earlier, its only logical. Finally because of work issues i am going to be even poorer than normal.
On the plus side my mother has promised to buy my shopping list of things i take over this year. So if anyone wants anything let me know - after all someone else is paying

Don't worry, Grai... you'll be fine. And woohoo for quality time with the girl, too! If you're taking requests, I'd love some maltesers... Wait, that's probably not a great thing to ask somebody to bring to the desert. How's about a bag of cheese and onion crisps? We have sour cream & onion chips here, and we have cheddar and sour cream flavored too, but damn it's just not the same.

Good luck with today's class session, Lucky!

And good morning bar! Now get yourselves going, I'm shutting the gates in a couple minutes - we'll be back hopefully before 10AM.

Fantastic job, Trilo! Take a bow. 8) 8) 8)

Grai I will happy unpack these bags of gear for you on Skype and let you see how many pairs of white shorts you have. 8) I sent most of the socks up to VultureChow's but there are a few left. 8) Or I can haul that crap north for you and have xmas in July when you get to this side of the ocean. Send me your dates early so I can arrange my schedule!

The stuff you left in Fernley, well, maybe one of our Reno friends could go check it if you are really that nervous. :?

Just make up your mind that this is the year you go naked in BRC.

MyDearFriend, that's what Delle and I do, with Skype, since most of her 'burning' stuff lives in AZ the rest of the time. Makes it easy to pack, when the time comes. She and her Sweetie will fly to Reno a few days early, and I'll start driving a few days early... we'll have a Blast in Reno, and also get their food and water, and anything else that looks like fun; they'll take the Burner Express and we'll all meet again on the Playa.

Works out perfectly!! YAY!! :D

Oh, that's a good idea, MDF! When my sweetie broke her ankle a few months ago and couldn't get upstairs to get clean clothes to wear, we did a facetime call/chat so she could see what I was grabbing and tell me yes/no.

And thanks for the kind words (though I've had plenty of help over the years), it's easily the biggest/longest running project I've been involved in related to the board. Time to go soak my brain in vodka for a few hours... purely for retorative purposes, of course!
