The Bar 2015 Edition
Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
DMV and car stuff today. My car is impatient to become an official NV resident, requiring car registration, requiring smog cert and NV proof of insurance. One element in my brain says that CA expired tags ain't no big thing, but I will do what is right by law, nerts.
I set up my BRC solar panel under a full sun living room window yesterday, to use the power for some lighting and my stereo. It's not going to prevent heat, but maybe a figjam cooler is in the offing as well.
Yay coffee, and hof trip sounds neat, yg.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
True. He's one of the Springfield, Missouri crowd of neocon evangelical Republicans. The Church of God is big down there, prodcing such notables as Jimmy Swaggart and Jim Bakker from the seminary. There's also Baptist Bible College there and there's a Baptist college in Bolivar, MO, about an hour north. Plus, there's the Church of Christ, the Jehovah's Witnesses, and others with big presences and coffers.Dr. Pyro wrote:Ashcroft was such a douchebag that he lost a senatorial election to a dead man. Then Bush appointed him, what, attorney general if memory serves. And the week before 9/11 he announced that there was no real threat of terrorism and was going to use that money to fight domestic pornography and the like. Six days later the Twin Towers fell. And that pretty much was the end of his career. Good riddance.
However, there's still hope. There's a huge chapter of Pastafarians who often go out and counter-demonstrate, known for passing out pamphlets and dressing in full pirate regalia as they should.

Good Morning Dear Bar
Yggy Yay !
the weather can still surprise us
you know how the people in Iceland have 22 words to describe snow..
now we are developing a variety of words for moisture
misty now
catalytic converter cost me $600
and although I looked at it, in it and tried to understand the principle of it ,
I still am worried about $$ effect on my BRC plans even if a tx does appear
Enjoy your day !

Heard approximately 14 drops of rain during the night, but big wind now.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
It was sporadically gray for a bit earlier in the day here in the bay, but now the sunshine runs rampant (and the cats have taken to their sunny spots for naps). It probably says something that I recently had to replace the wiper blades on our van because dryrot got to the old ones.
Fingers crossed that my shipment of aluminet arrives today - it was due to have arrived yesterday, but our regular UPS guy was off and the clown that was covering for him couldn't be bothered to make the delivery. His manager claimed that he was unable to work the buzzer to ring for delivery, but a) he didn't leave a door tag, and b) there was a small stack of other packages from UPS dumped off in our bldg's lobby indicating he was able to figure it out and get in. My guess is that he probably forgot about it on his first trip, and was too lazy to make a second trip. I'm glad to be getting it out of the way early, it can be tricky to get big pieces of it later in the season.
Anyhow, all that aside... lots to do today. Good luck with the car stuff Elorrum and aserendipity, and enjoy your localized holiday weekend, Rhino!

Rain?! The ground around here is like a wet sponge lately. I want to check out the setup of my shade now that my aluminet is here. New job is going well except very intensely busy. Changing jobs was definitely the right choice. It's so nice to never look at the clock during the day and look forward to going in every morning.

Regarding windshield wiper blades, the following system serves me very well: In autumn I replace the left blade with a brand new one and transfer that old blade to the right-hand side. This cuts my wiper costs in half, and has no significant effect on visibility and eye fatigue.
I am soooo fortunate with my regular UPS driver. I have never seen him not smiling. Sometimes he takes his afternoon break here and we talk pedal-vehicles and such.

The honeycomb design creates a very large total surface of the expensive metal that serves as the catalyst. Thus all -- or at least many -- of the exhaust gas particles come in contact with this metal and the desired reaction occurs.
One mode of failure is when the honeycomb structure breaks apart from age and vibration and clogs the flow of exhaust. This would be noticeable in performance. The unit can also become ineffective, which would be noticed by the smog test machinery.

Air pollution. It converts a harmful substance into a less harmful substance -- or some such. I have forgotten what the substances are.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Our normal mix of drivers (they have separate people doing different types of deliveries) all kind of get it and we haven't had any problem, it just happened to be the fill-in guy the other day. When I talked to the woman on the phone yesterday she even admitted that the guy could be a jerk sometimes. Alas, the shenanigans continue, as the woman I'd spoken to wasn't very good on the follow-through she'd promised. I on the other hand, followed through with my promise to escalate things if it didn't arrive...
It was otherwise a busy and productive day. My brain's feeling kind of melty and overworked, time to go soak it in some vodka

I don't know how much the DMV will enforce this but by law new Nevada residents are required to register their vehicles within 30 days after taking up residence in Nevada, regardless of when their previous states registration expires. Just don't volunteer information.Elorrum wrote: One element in my brain says that CA expired tags ain't no big thing,
I work next door to the DMV although I've been temporarily reassigned to Virginia City the last several weeks which has saved me lots of money as far as gas goes. Scheduled to go back to Reno next week.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Great cowboy coffee this morning ymgir. Really needed it.
What would a spring day in northern Nevada be without snow in May? Snow was falling here in the Dayton area when I left for work at 5:30am. Wasn't sticking but snow was falling and the closer I got to Six Mile Canyon, the harder it came. When I got to work in VC there was about a little over an inch. VC is almost 2,000ft higher in elevation. Only accumulation was on the trees, cars, grassy areas. Roads remained wet.
Lets not rule out a tornado either. At 7:00pm there was a tornado warning based on rotation seen on the radar. It was in isolated Lander county in the Grass Valley south of the town of Crescent Valley north of Austin. I can only imagine what it's gonna be like on Memorial Day.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Hooray for any kind of moisture up in there. I know there's no chance of getting the kind of rainfall we'd need for a good hard playa pack (too little too late at this point), but man I figure every drop helps.
The delivery stars aligned and the aluminet package finally arrived, and I got a bit of work done around the house. The chores were a nice distraction after a whole morning of banging my head up against a wall on a project. Hours and hours of researching something, that in the end looks like it won't be the droids we're looking for so to speak. I still learned some stuff from the research, I suppose, and I'm quite a few steps closer to being able to make meaningful progress.. so there's that.
I saw this pic in my twitter feed a little while ago, made me smile.

Those letters sure do get around, I remember seeing them in the yard of a place not too far from the Morris Burner Hotel when we were there last year.
