I don't know that it would be all that effective, Sheik. Aside from being a lot more complex than you might think, they're generally flat steps/levels which would make things tougher for water flow. Plus with water evap, you would ideally want to have the water flowing onto and through something with fabric or that air can get to from both sides (double the effectiveness for evap). Take a look at evapotrons, there are a few great designs out there that do modified waterfall designs using stuff like chickenwire for the framework and fabric over top for the water to flow through.

It won't work for the person who has slightly windy spots I originally intended it for but its going to work really well on playa. It passed the hot dog roasting test with flying colors(none of them charred) and is as expected a wood hog. Best warming stove yet. Going to free range it by making a steerable wagon for it soon.Image
Wow.. well done. I agree - best and most artistic one yet. Good job.

Wow, Yggy!! Nice saw! Looks like fun.
(nice WOOD, too, though I imagine that's what ALL the girls tell you)

Cedar? If so, it's HUGE compared to the desert cedar here!

Huge wood + Yggy = yes of course, absolutely. 8)

Totally not kidding about the scraps, either, if you have more than you know what to do with. 8) 8) 8)

MDF:
you want scraps for your stove? or other projects?
Of course whatever you want is yours. I have slabs and outside cuts and all sorts of size pieces.

Patsh: yeah, I have cedars here 6' at the stump. Very different than the desert variety. I have a chunk 4' across and 6' tall I'm saving to carve a one piece "throne" from.........

Halfway between Jerome and Clarkdale, (a 3 mile or so span,) is my friend (and fellow Burner) 's home, which is a trailer, completely covered with the outside cuts from the Foley sawmill just on the other side of Jerome. They're flat against the trailer, and rounded on the outside. It looks almost like a log cabin. Very cool...

Actually, he's the one who made the three burning man pendants that I wear every day. One copper and two smaller brass 'buttons', which he gave me on the Playa in 2012. I've known him for veritable decades, here in AZ.

I hope you'll show us the progress on your throne, when you get started on it. I imagine you sitting in a very majestic Viking throne, with a big grin!

and so, I had to cut 5' off the end of the next log, since it was the butt cut, and had way too much taper.
What to do with it?

got started on making granite slabs into bricks:
Note, the cureved cleavage. There is a subtle reason that I'm sure Rhino will know, I wonder if others will. Typically, granite has two, right angle directions of cleavage, and pretty straight.
and now, I realize why these slabs were surplussed from the monument quarry.

Interior signs printed. Now need to copy them and they're done. Exterior signs done and packed.

Test burn of new stove I built today tells me it needs a taller chimney. Work in progress. :D

Thanks Ygmir! The bottom chamber is the hinged ash collector and I left the little bit of air gap at the top of it to promote burning of embers that fall through the fire box screen. The piece of wood you see in the magazine is only about 4 inches long and probably should be split several times to work better than one solid piece. The stove works and I did get that rocket sound from it for a little while which was pretty sweet. Next time I will double the height of the fire box portion and tonight I'm adding more chimney to see if I can make it draw a little better. It is a success that can use some refinement. :D

From here (upon a certain, or uncertain amount of delicious home-made Polish vodka, I must say....) it looks like the bottom chamber would open, with a hinge, to empty the ashes... but, that's only from my "temporarily" skewed perspective. I may (or may not) see it differently by morning.

So, have I mentioned what Awesome sisters I have?? And, who the hell is spelling all of these words apparently correctly spelled?? I've been having such a great time in Montreal and Quebec... *sigh*

It looks interesting, but I'm not sure I follow how it works. Is the big square tubing coming up the top the chimney, or the part you'd cook on? Or is it both? I like the hinged ash collector, huge bonus points for not having to scoop the ashes out or wait for it to cool and dump the thing out to empty.
