Anytime you can avoid att it is a good thing
Whew , legs a wee bit wobbly from the barn do..absolutely worth it though
all the agri food was really delicious
I can no longer make believe that fresh from the farm tastes the same

ah, ASD.......I don't have the instant resentment for large corps. They can, and have, done things that would otherwise never have happened. The huge scale and money they wield, allows for experiments and such that could not otherwise be done, and certainly not as efficiently (read gov. money wasting on most everything). And innovations from the private sector have done much.
But, their service as far as DSL here is marginal.......

Good morning, Bar!
The first piece of this year's swag is done... this time, I hope to have a few more that last.
Same nice copper, more time to mess with it, so, somewhat more 'professional' design.
After being away for 3 weeks, while it rained at home, I came back to a small jungle in the yard. So far, after 2 full days pulling weeds, it looks a bit better, but there's so much more to do. More today. Gotta take advantage of damp ground, when roots come out too. Supposed to be 2 more storms this week... unusual for this time of year. I'll get finished just in time for a whole new crop sprouting up! The knees and lower back don't appreciate it very much, but the yard does.

i always try to avoid I580 a true cluster fuck.
I do drive by it everyday from Keystone to Pyramid on my way to and from work. The amount of wrecks right at the Wells off/on ramp to I580 is ridiculous

Fan belt, radiator hoses, accelerator and transmission linkages. Adding a manual fan clutch switch while I'm at it (electric fan clutch). Maybe something else.ygmir wrote:...

Was supposed to be done for Maker Fair, but Blue Bird sent the wrong parts, so drove my brother's rig to Maker Fair. Correct parts arrived in meantime, so should be ready for Kinetic Sculpture Race next weekend.
Maker Faire rapport: 23 hours of show-n-tell, plus figure-8 races. Good time had by all. Met Jovankat and relevant boyfriend.
Event seemed a bit less crowded than in past. With $8.- ice cream cones and $10.- beer -- no wonder. Fabulous type of event just the same.
Explained "amphibious" to 31486588992039485 youngsters -- and several adults. One kid about 8 or ten explained it to me, plus all other mechanical elements of my amphibious tricycle. That boy alone was worth the trip. Watched light bulb come on in many other young eyes. There is hope.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
We had a blast at Maker Faire, though ended up not making it back for day two and didn't get to connect with most of the people we had hoped to see. I think any reduced attendance could be blamed on the weather, it was downright chilly and breezy for much of the day. We'd left our place early in the morning thinking that things would clear up and warm up later, and that just didn't happen. We stuck through a pretty long day though, and got the key things my gf wanted to get to all on day one. Her feet were bothering her on Sunday morning, so we missed out on day 2 (and more funnel cake). The food vending was spendy, but didn't seem too much more spendy than the last few years. I loved getting the chance to finally see Celestia Mechanica in action, and up close, as well as chatting with more of the crew. We got to chat with some of the FLG folks too, and I was completely bowled over by Rhino Redemption (steampunk rhino MV that made her debut on the playa last year...though I hadn't seen it before Saturday). That thing is a work of art inside and out.
Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Second the notion of Celestia Mechanica being a spectacular piece of... everything -- engineering etc etc. Is our Moon really that large in relation to Earth?
For the uninitiated... CM is a model of our solar system, perhaps 30 or 40 feet across, with every planet and moon moving as they do in real life, operated by a massive gear-system. And in the center, a roaring ball of (propane) fire.
In other news.... Lurid evidence is beginning to surface of the mayhem committed in the Figure-8 Races at same event. Unidentified perpetrator is show displaying his mount's broken proboscis, which now resembles his own such. Spy camera footage exists, but is deemed too gruesome for public viewing.

Fourth day of rain here. Had a couple days when it rained all day and night. That simply is not how spring in the Rockies works! We are a desert, we forgot to have winter, and now this much rain? Yikes.

I'm heading over to the generator to see if Killbuck needs any unskilled day labor today.
Happy that my new and cheap solar controller is showing a little return on the panel in the window and my battery is running some area lighting in the evening. Next up is a little switch control center for 12V loads, hoping to find something or make something like a marine or rv panel.
all my camp kitchen gear is spread out in the living room and it's nice to see it all in one place, but now I need to bundle it back up, and make some hard decisions perhaps on how many stoves and mess kits I actually will use in this lifetime. like the backpacking scenario.... really? really? oh perhaps. I guess I could call it a bug out kit, but in reality this bug's most likely not getting far.

One cubic yard is 27 cubic feet. One cubic foot of water weighs around 60 pounds. So one cubic yard water is 2,220 pounds. Add the extra weight of sand and rock (which very decidedly sink in water), and you worked something like 3,000 pounds of material. You are right -- you should do much more -- before lunch.
I was pretty close to non-operational myself yesterday, from the five day expedition/adventure of Maker Faire. But soooo worth it. Kinetic Sculpture Race next weekend will be even more hectic, but also glorious. The Season has begun!

I have a friend in a nearby town, whose CNC mill's motherboard needed some soldering work, which I was glad to do at no charge. When he saw the pendant from last year, he said he'd like to do something for me in exchange, and the next thing I knew, he took my design and 150 copper blanks... so far, there's only one in existence, but, on his schedule, I'll go over there and learn how to run the machine... can't wait!!

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
I love that pic, Elliot! I don't think the planets and moons are to an exact scale, they went with approximate sizes to give people a general sense... and did a fantastic job. I don't know if you caught it, but it's actually an interactive piece too, they had button controllers at various points around the installation that people could push to activate a 'sunspot poofer' on the sun. Pani had a lot of fun with that.
Man oh man, I'm achy and sore and elated. We went to a concert down in San Jose last night, loads and loads of fun, dancing, jumping up and down, clapping, cheering, singing along to things, and general excitement. Apparently I'm older than I used to be or something, I woke up with decidedly more aches and pains than I usually do.

granite brick siding on the Hof???
That thing will be found, 5000 years from now, upside down at the bottom of the ocean. Tourists will come from all over the galaxy to see it. And it will require whole schools of archeologists to generate and interpret new theories about 21st century American culture.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
hah no, ASD, I won't have the bricks made by then, I don't think. haaha .
I have to make about 850 sq. ft of bricks, roughly 3,000 of them. hand breaking and shaping each one, so, it will take a while.
*insert maniacal laugh*..........one pallet, about 40 sq. ft. weighs about a ton. so, about 20 tons. These are rough figures, final may be different, because I'm sort of shooting from the hip on this.
