Happy Fathers Day
Dad, I hope someplace in the back of your mind you know we really love you.
It's ok Dad, it is time for you to let go.
We will be fine.
You raised some good kids.
You have lead a good life.
It's time for you to rest.
Love you Dad

Re: Fuck!
Fuck, found my elderly dog dead in the backyard this evening. When we took her in she was so viscious we had to stop having people over. She eventually learned that if she stopped growling at and attacking people she got love & pets. She loved love & pets. In the end she was so weak in the hind legs she could barely walk and was incontinent. Sometimes the last few days she couldn't even make it outside to poop, which embarrassed her greatly.
Lately she rarely left the house, and never went too far (had to start cleaning up poop in the front yard & driveway) but we found her far from where she's gone for many months. I think she wanted to let go, but I couldn't bear to have her put down.
Goodbye, Alice, I hoped you enjoyed your life, and are running around in the fields at the end of the rainbow bridge, chasing chickens and watching the trees for that squirrel you never managed to get.

FUCK! Found out yesterday that Gene, a friend of mine from Iowa, passed away at age 85. He was one of the most successful boring contractors in the world. His business card even said "Chairman of the Bored" G'bye, Gene, your gentle humor and your generosity will be missed. You will live on in our hearts from your example and what you taught all of us.
FUCK! Another friend dead. I can't take this.

Re: Fuck!
I've lost two of my babies this year and one last year. They're all so old, except for the new cat my ex dropped off about 6 months ago. My other dog, Sweetie knew something was up. She only comes inside for thunderstorms and fireworks and came inside when we were still searching the house for Alice. Alice hadn't gone outside in at least a week; couldn't even make it out to poop. Back legs were giving out. So we were out with flashlights looking farther and farther from the house. Poor dear. Burying her in the backyard today next to Boo & Bean, two cats that went far too early when Alice could run like crazy all over the field happy to just run.
Hugs to you Rhino. It's been a hard year for you too.

Let me tell you a little about Gene. Gene had a huge all white beard, and took real pleasure out of playing Santa for underprivileged kids in the Des Moines area. He did this for the final 30 years of his life. He developed skills in advanced woodworking, and enjoyed using his contractor's know-how in making trains and hobby horses for kids, not only his children and great-grandchildren, but the ones in need as well. He had a sparkle in his eye and kindness in his heart. His wife was fully supportive, even dressing up as Mrs. Santa when he went out and about during the holiday season.
As a horizontal boring contractor, he was second to none. He took a world's record home a few years back when his crews set up and executed a pipe ramming operation under the Burlington Northern tracks in Altoona, Iowa, a suburb of Des Moines. The process took a week to set up, and it was completed in a day. The pipe diameter was huge - 147 inches....that's 12 feet 3 inches in diameter. Special cones had to be constructed from scrap iron just to mate the pipe ram to the pipe. The distance was only 75 feet or so, but the railroad remained in service during the entire operation.
Gene set an example that will be hard to follow. I don't know how he died, but it was much more important how he LIVED.
When I lose a friend like that, it's awful, because a piece of me is taken away. All I ever can hope to retain is the memory and the feeling in my heart. They're my mentors, co-workers, colleagues, the people I serve every day of my life. It's a genuine LOSS for my psyche. There are times like last night and today which are difficult, and they fade only with time. You go home alone to an apartment, curl up on the couch, and want it to be over....but it won't be over soon.

Re: Fuck!
Although trivial compared to some of the other recent posts on here, why do air conditioners pick the worst time to go out?
I came home last night and it was 90 inside my house. It looks like the air conditioner fan motor or capacitor is out so not a huge deal, but need to either order a motor online or figure out where to buy one locally. Today starts about 10 days in a row or more of 105 degree temps in DFW so it is not the ideal time to have this happen, luckily I keep 3 window units in storage for times like this. If my swamp cooler was ready I would test that out also.
Aside from that, my dad got out of the hospital yesterday from pneumonia and an infection. I usually have a lot less to worry about when he is in the hospital than at the care facility he's at since they are not always the best place for taking care of all his needs. I wish there were more LTAC options in Texas since I have to drive 200 miles round trip to go visit my dad every weekend. There is nowhere in DFW that deals with cases like his for long term care.
Time to go home and diagnose what parts I need to buy.

Fuck. Just found out that my brother's apartment got flooded and he (along with wife and dog) has to move. They JUST moved into this place and were finally getting settled and now they're uprooted again. Sounds like the new new place is not as nice but just as expensive and they're not getting much help from the current management either.

Got a letter saying that my health insurance coverage was terminated... 17 days ago. Gave them a call: apparently I cancelled it (I didn't) and apparently it's not the responsibility of the insurance company to notify me in a timely manner that I no longer have coverage.
FUCK. I just want health insurance for more than four months at a time.
I guess to be the sort of citizen who deserves minimum coverage I have to have steady work, but steady work is never guaranteed for adjuncts (read: >75% of community college instructors in my state).

You got that right. I got named as an adjunct professor in 2005, and haven't taught a course yet. "as needed" faculty, and I'm not needed. Does wonders for one's self-esteem.
