Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Ha, you didn't do anything wrong, I'm just in aggravated rant mode because some schmuck is treating one of my very hard-earned little pieces of Earth poorly and not appreciating the incredibly great deal he's getting. And yeah I know, most SFers haven't got lawns and that's what I meant, when you're in a building you have maintenance people; when you're in a single-family dwelling, you ARE the maintenance people. This guy doesn't seem to get that.
Everything is a trade off. Want space? Then you inherit more work too.
Where I live, you can't let your grass grow more than a few inches... you can't have noticeable weeds... you certainly can't have shit lying around all over the place.
Grr.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
I here yah, Capt'n. While I do not rent, our block of houses is pretty nicely maintained. However the new family next to us doesn't own a lawn mower. How the fuck can you buy a house with substantial front and back yard and not buy a lawn mower!? The city has already been on them and they had to remove two junked vehicles from the back yard. They have a friend who does lawn care, but they don't get this has to be done weekly, not once a summer. They also neglect their big goofy dog. Nice people, but no clue, they were raised in apartments.
Lawn service is not cheap, and that is basic mowing, edging, and weed care. Add in shrubs, leaves, weeding of flowerbeds, and it can cost as much as rent. And it is a constant thing. Precisely why I won't be a landlord, I'd go insane over lazy tenants.

Good Morning, Bar. I woke up to sunshine for the first time in what seems like forever!
All of this Texas rain is so weird. No catastrophic flooding where I am but very soggy
ground. Off to mow the yard....again....

Morning Bar!
Nice early nap, now sitting on the patio sipping coffee. There's a bee buzzing over and around me...makes me nervous
Hope everyone enjoys their day.
Things at heating up around here

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Mornin' campers.
Man am I tired. I have been accepted to run the New York City Marathon, and even though I've ran 27 marathons (including Boston three times, Anchorage six times, and most recently in 2012 Calgary) I forgot--or chose to forget--how hard it is to train to run 26 miles 385 yards. I ran 14 miles today (I started out slow then tapered off) and now feel like I should sleep for about, oh I don't know, 40 hours. I shudder to think how I'm going to feel when the mileage gets up to over 40 miles a week and the long runs are like 18 or 19 miles. And those are training runs. All I can say is that I wish Phillipides died after running 17 miles. That would make it a whole lot easier.

Well, that generic lowered himself to send me one, so youse guys must be really dirt.
Ah... Marathon -- civilization's first great victory over the barbarians of Persia. (I think we are still waiting for the second.)
I tried reading Herododus a few years ago, but found him almost unreadable. Right now I happen to be reading Plutarch, and this is far more readable. Of course, there are several versions of both, so my sampling may not be a fair comparison. This edition of Lives is clearly modernized in style. But if that makes history accessible, I am all for it. Great stuff. Did you know, for example, that Julius Caesar did not deliberately burn the Library of Alexandria, as he was blamed for in history class in school. He set fire to ships in the harbor, and the fire inadvertently spread to the docks and the rest of the city. (Not that this nuance makes ol' Julius a nice chap or anything.)

I got a pm from somebody named generic. I haven't opened it yet. On my email from eplaya it said the topic was something about flashlights
So I don't know.
I'll check the pm tomorrow. Sometime.
I was hopping it was for a ticket and vp.

Mornin All!
Good morning AntiM
Looking at more seasonal temperatures. Was 90 yesterday and should be around 71 today.
Oatmeal and coffee for breakfast. Got my annual skin doctor appointment at 08:45. Come home and cut the front yard and that's about it.
Gonna be going over the hill to Fresno this coming Saturday the 6th to see the Reno Aces take on the Fresno Grizzlies. (Triple AAA baseball)
Debating whether to go 88 to 49 or 108 over Sonora Pass. Never been over Sonora Pass. Any suggestions?
Have a good day

Well crap, I guess I don't hang out here enough to get spammed. Took me 3 minutes this morning to figure out what day of the week it was while showering. Flew to LA for a 3 day "weekend", 3 time zones, up all night and 3 zones back....where am I? Coffee? There's coffee here? Where? Point me in that direction.......

so, MGB, how were the gravel bars?.......
Catman: Sonora pass is super beautiful!! slow though.
I'm debating buying a "used" new phone, off ebay. Anyone have input? S5 active. I need a new one, and they are way cheaper than from my carrier. But, I'm a little nervous about buying used. or refurbished? I just don't know anything about them.
