yay for a Yeti!!
nice rain here yesterday. Though, the fire people say it hurts more than helps, in that it's not a drought breaker, but, it helps grasses and such......

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LUCKY!! Great spirit, ever young!

Thought of you, Elliot, on Saturday, my son and I visited the opening day of the Bike Museum in nearby Fairfax. Good display of a wide variety of bikes and even some trikes with some very Rube Goldberg steering and braking contraptions.

And a big hi to all the rest of you too numerous to mention. Congrats TG .. sounds like you are on a great life path. I cut back drastically on sugar and almost immediately lost about 5 or 6 pounds. Really don't miss it now, even though I really love ice cream and chocolate.

Heard from LF this morning and it made my day!

well, the heat is on.......must be summer.
Today may well be "crawl under the house to fix some plumbing issues" day. I just don't fit under there well, and, am not so flexible as before.......should be a challenge.

That is exactly why I have an "employee". "Here, go under there and fix that, please".

yeah wish I had a "helper"........but I can't keep someone busy enough to be here all the time, and don't seem to know any kids who need/want odd job work. That, and when we "work" , we work hard. I don't ask them to do anything I don't do right next to them, but do ask they "keep up".....and it seems many just don't know how/want to, work hard.
so, I'm mostly left to my own.

We had rain and sunshine at the same time. Weird.

All out plumbing is in the walls or under the soil. Utah houses tend to have basements, not crawlspaces. I wish I could clone MyLarry, I'd make a fortune leasing them out for oddjobs.

I have been under my house lately, rigging a gray water system to water my plants -- since I hear talk of a drought. Sure hope the grapes won't taste of soap.

Good morning guys! I have an odd job that I need help in. It can be done remotely: I want to build two boxes out of existing materials. These will keep the tongue of my trailer from falling, and have eye bolts to tie it down so it won't flip up.
Any takers? It's just a phone call, and I've done some of the design, just need someone to check my work.

I wished Lucky HB on book face but, Happy day after your birthday Lucky!

Can you just pick up some old car jacks and rebar them down with a candy cane? How tall do you need em? Someone could bring an old pair to the Hof.

Woohoo for the end of a long and crazy week! Craziness from the start, and ending all hot and muggy this afternoon. My poor gf was feeling poorly on Wednesday and Thursday and missed a work 'field trip' to Pixar that she'd been looking forward to forever. Fortunately she was feeling better today, and then bonus points in her getting home early. Now off to do drinks and then dinner and then fuck around some more on art projects. Happy weekend!

*staggers in, collapses.*

dang, I need to be smaller, or more limber.......I'm neither. spent hours under my house, re-routing drain lines, and since I was down there split off the grey water lines for watering out door plants. who the hell builds a house with only a foot of clearance in some spots, the spots you need to work, of course!! haahaa (maniacal laugh), and then I put my hand "in" a dead creature,.........not long enough dead........
Then, one renter smelled propane. so, of course, a loose fitting in the bottom rear of the Chicom stove...............

Went to the show last night down in Pacifica and the lead for the band, Eddie Spaghetti fronting the Supersuckers, took this photo from the stage.

Oooo... yes.... Mark Twain's The Mysterious Stranger. He never finished that, but it has been published anyway. In a nutshell, Twain deals with a serious subject for once -- religion, Satan. Definitely recommended.

"Has anyone else noticed, how summer plans start in April, with "I have until August" and by June, it's "oh shit, August is almost here"?.........#somanyprojects."

Sure have noticed, yggy. Except my prior planning went the way of a re-think. I didn't have a ticket and vehicle pass until now. Plus, AMAZING shit is happening here, and it's all too fast. Earlier this year, I added to my job title and responsibilities (fool enough to say 'yes' to the offer of an internal promotion without additional pay that doubled my responsibilities). I was really excited about it at the time, since I became not only the guy who approves all the prelim. geotechnical work statewide, but then they gave me a full district to do that district's geotech work. I shift back and forth from two perspectives of scale as needed. Add to that I have to oversee another district's entire work because the geotech in that district isn't a licensed geologist. All that for no additional payola, and I'm working 16 hours a day, and commuting two hours daily.

Relief is not in sight, but on July 31's paycheck gets a 2% step increase. That's something at least.

The work is interesting. I'm constantly learning new things, and reviewing old ideas I had twenty years ago. My latest project was a real head-scratcher first for the project office, then the district materials folks, and so who should they bring in? Me......Mr. "If it all goes to shit I'll save you" Troubleshooter. At first, it had me scratching my head, too.

We were getting some premature pavement cracking, settlement and deterioration on a US Highway over a culvert, and people thought the culvert had something to do with it. Last Wednesday, we sent a tractor/video cam inspection unit down the pipe, and the inspection showed the pipe was pristine. The construction records were near perfect. We even checked the aggregate mix. So, I got out the County Soil Survey that was published by the USDA. The minute I put soil series names to the soils encountered in the boreholes, why the defect occurred became plainly evident. They had installed 15' of compacted fill on top of a crawdad flat. The old crawdad burrows were filling with water and emptying as the river stage 100' away was going up and down. Soil underneath the fill was pumping out since it had open pathways to do it. It had fooled a dozen civil engineers in the process. So, that's solved, and I'll have the report ready early.

Next week: the BIG erosional gully at Glasgow, Missouri. Fix it or we lose the road. hmmm....wonder why they saved this doozy for me.......

I'm having more fun doing the work than should be legal.

Hooray, Rhino... hooray for the promotion in name and responsibility, hopefully it's just a matter of time before the pay catches up and even leapfrogs ahead a little bit. But you got the important part right, sounds like the work is an awful lot of fun for you. And congrats on getting your ticket!

Looks like it's going to be another sunny and warm one in the city by the bay. Work continues on some art projects, lots to do but lots of fun. Have a great weekend!

Rhino, I understand you loving the job. Even if it's too much sometimes. Hang in there and work at a plan for your future. It worked for me.

Aserendipity, Still waiting for a ticket? Do you have a plan A, B and C to get one? I'm wishing you luck.

To answer your question, the current plan (haz ticket, vehicle pass, time off, everything hunky-dory) has me in BRC. Thank you for your concern, it's much appreciated.
