minor details about me/this trip: 27, male, a rolling solo birgin; aside from above, i have not arranged anything plug n play related or really talked to (m)any camps. planning on camping in a tent, which i still have to buy along with almost everything else. this is where you interneters can help with or shoot down ideas, im taking all tips/suggestions/advice/criticism on all gear/supply that i need to bring in / buy at my savemart trip
i am supposed to borrow some big REI backpacking pack from a friend, which has been used for week long camping trips in yellowstone/yosemite places like that etc; i chose this backpack option instead of luggage because i want to be hands free when i arrive in reno, but not when i reach BRC because each of those hands will be carrying a 5 gal water jug, 50 lbs each right? will probably also have a side duffel bag / camelbak
shelter: i want to buy a big agnes tent, small and light weight enough so it can fit in my backpack but durable enough to withstand these gale force winds im hearing about, and any potential rain
- tent options:

https://www.bigagnes.com/Products/Detai ... ble3mtnglo
^ will buy a footprint with it
can anyone recommend these or advise against using them? they come with a fly which i hope will help block out some of the playa dust... maybe the tent is too 'light'?? obviously i will be staking it down heavily and all my gear will be inside weighing it down so it doesnt get blown away. if these suck, please suggest something with same price range
- sleep: on a cot, in a bag
i found someone posted this in a random thread around here, i want something identical or similar (can anyone suggest?), looks super light weight and sturdy. yeah i realize in cots you cant sleep with anyone given the limited space but whatever, no one is gonna want to sex me anyways though - ill be dirty, probably wont shower lol
^ probably bring it outside from the tent during the day, use it as a bench or something with my imaginary squad
as for the sleeping bag, probably borrowing from the same previously mentioned backpack friend; if no bag, layer up!!
- shade: i have no clue what im doing with shade. considering adding this to my big agnes arsenal but maybe not, not sure i can carry it
https://www.bigagnes.com/Products/Detai ... eltersmall
aside from that, i plan on bringing no shade structure and have a secret agenda of just becoming friends w/ neighbors, i dont mooch too much i promise; i will also be looking for open land that is behind like a tall trailer/RV/or something so it can block winds and shade me for a couple hours a day
or just be hanging out at center camp or temple all day
transportation: ive reserved a rental bike already from hammer and cyclery, basic beach cruiser w/ kit, love their play off hammer and sickle; will be using it daily but i still need to buy el wire, pretty sure thats straight forward
i booked my burner express tickets w/ extra luggage already too, which isnt really luggage but space for those two 5-gal water jugs; i understand i get dropped off at 6:15 and J, and theres the local camping spot HOVerlandia at 6:15 and I. well im taking the 1230pm trip on tuesday sep 1, so i dont expect to reach BRC until 5pm-ish, will HOVerlandia be too full by then?? will i be able to find space close by? i am carrying 100lbs in my arms and maybe 50lbs+ on my back, not trying to walk too far... also, when is sundown? will setting up my one tent be a bitch in the dusk??
^ if i do have to find a spot far away from drop off, what are the chances i can leave 5-gal jugs of water laying around and not have them stolen? thinking ill be taking multiple trips back and forth... oh and what direction should i go? i heard towards 2, 3:00 and 9, 10:00 becomes a party but not sure which side is 'more like me'
food & drink (drugs):
- food: i think im gonna buy like, 10 bags of space food / MREs and pack it in my backpack along w/ tent and clothes, not bringing a stove or anything; i hope they last me the 5 days im there (tuesday evening through sunday morning) and ive read appetite is low when youre on the playa. i believe that. ill probably buy some shelf snacks at the save mart like raw almonds and beef jerky and jam them in the duffel. i know the munchies will hit sometime and ill need more food, i think ill help a camp cook for a hot meal
- drink: i plan on buying two 5-gal water jugs at the savemart, does this seam reasonable? i know its gonna be a pain in the dick to carry but whatever, necessity to live. i will be porting/dumping this into my water bottle / camelbak carrying it around with me. will also use this water in a jerry rigged shower, plastic water bottle with holes punctured in the cap.
will also probably pick up 12pack of beer and a liter of tequila, i know this wont last (probably more than 1 day), but again, imaginary friends
^ HOW DO I BRING MORE BOOZE???
- drugs: (mod feel free to delete if this is against rules) im not bringing any on my plane, so how do i find them? are people 'gifting' them lol, barter exchange, or am i gonna need some cash? seriously, looking for like an oz of weed over the week and some very fun play play for the nights on the weekend
^ NEED TO ALTER MY MIND
clothing & playawear:
ummmm, bringing tons of basics: white tees, underwear, socks, running shoes, maybe some boots, long sleeve denim/flannel shirts for night and possibly day for protection from sun, maybe a hoody/crewneck. shorts, jeans, various caps and bucket hats, sunglasses, what else am i missing?
i gotta participate in costuming right? im thinking of just being a big baby walking around in my pampers trying to channel ghandi, i also have a fresh kimono that could help keep deez nuts nice and cool, i dunno - i look pretty goofy already; i have santa outfits but its gonna be hot af out there not sure i can wear wool pants and a jacket
now wheres my mad hatter hat from disneyland??
can anyone suggest some sweet goggles / dust masks? maybe ill just use my osha mask from painting?
power & illumination:
none what so ever, im trying to unplug. maybe charge my phone and if i bring one a gopro via neighbors. who needs power?
- illumination: el wire for my bike, what do i put on my body? probably should bring a flashlight / headlamp
packing: this is where im mildly freaking out, pretty sure im bringing too little? but i have limited space, ugh. i know theres packing lists everywhere i should double check on
backpack: tent, cot, sleeping bag/pad if can fit, clothes, supplies (med, toiletries, etc)
duffel: clothes, food, more supplies, extra drink if can fit
i feel like im getting dropped off in the middle of no where with at least a tent, what a wonderful mental and physical test, about fucking time
what am i missing (besides nerves of steel and peace of mind)? please eplaya, rip me apart
excited to see you all
