I love the ziggurat! Can't wait to sit up there and watch the world pass again. :D

Hooray, and we can't wait to have you come hang out. In the meantime, I've been busy on other projects and fell behind on posting the info signs. Here are the last few...

Image

I can't even imagine how skilled the sumerian scribes were with reeds on clay. It's painfully intricate and detailed and at the same time beautiful to behold. Also fascinating is all the different technologies and innovations that got their start in Sumer. We'll have to plant add more evidence next time we head back in the time machine...

I've got another Info Sign to post this week...

Image

As well as one of the first renders of the 2015 camp. Well, a tiny portion of the camp.

Image

The carts are where we set up the rubber stamp bar and various other bits of gifting at different times throughout the week, under a new and larger shade structure with a carnival tent topper structure I've designed. Those structures will also have some fabric at each corner to help create a sort of circus tent feel (in keeping with our Carnival Of Space & Time theme). Behind it, the red wall display areas behind it will feature Burning Man theme posters from future years' events, and the ziggurat is over on the right.

I've heard from some of our campmates that they'll be planning to bring out the gear for and organizing croquet games (or is that matches?) throughout the week. As we get into summer and those details firm up, I'll pass them along in here.

Amazing how realistic that render looks--almost like a photo.

@Graidawg - because I preferred to use English. I've done some in cuneiform to test, but didn't like the result. I wanted the camp name/year as well as whatever phrase I put on the back to be immediately readable to most people, and using a dead language wasn't helping me accomplish that.

@Elderberry - thanks. That's a type of rendering called ray-tracing, which basically simulates and casts all the light rays from the various light sources and reflections. In that particular case, the sun over BRC at 11:30am on the day the gates open. Believe it or not I can get even more photo-realistic, but dialed some of the settings back in an interest to keep the render times down. Once I finish getting all the camp model's elements together, I'll try and set up a walk-through/fly-through video.

And here's the last in our series of Info Signs...

In addition, I've got another render of the camp. This shot's from off to the side, and shows off my bike rack design.

I'm very happy to report that our new web site is live!

It's updated with our 2015 plans and information, plus additional galleries, videos, and information, and uses a responsive design so it should look great on mobile devices as well as computer web browsers.

Huh. I was just thinking about you and your limoncello the other day and wondering what goes in to making it. I guess I'll have a read and find out!

Thanks for the kind words... and by all means, jovankat, check it out and try it out sometime. It takes forever but is so worth the effort! Pago Pago Octopus, on the other hand, is supremely delicious and boozetastic but has deadly consequences...

I think I might, once we've got our kitchen a bit more organised. How does it go with reducing the batch size? Because a smaller batch seems like it would be more manageable.

It still takes the same amount of time, you're just reducing the amounts of each of the ingredients. I've never scaled it down, only up (first year I did 2 batches, second I did 4, and this year I'm doing 6).

Yeah I'm not too worried about the time, more what to do with it all once it's ready. We don't have a huge amount of space in our apartment and don't drink all that much. I also leave the bar tending to other camp mates at the burn.

I might also try to swing by your camp for a wee sample to see what all the fuss is about before I commit myself.

Oh can you do the same thing with other citrus fruit? Is Limecello a thing?

Limoncello is a thing. There are many other liqueurs out there, but they would probably have their own processes. To be honest, once it's done is the easy part - you just put it into smaller bottles which you can gift or pack away anywhere. It's the 6+ months of giant jars that eats up the space. Well, the jars eat up space all year long (it's not like they stop being big glass jars hehe), they're just not in use for part of the time.

Don't do it. You will become addicted. That stuff is great! And the way he bottles and labels it for gifting is awesome.

In our Carnival of Space and Time, we'll be traveling forwards. But before we do that, let's travel back in time to look at some of the art theme posters from years gone by...

Those awesome illustration posters came from rock show handbill artist Jamie Burton. Here's another of his gems, from 1999

I think so too, smiffman. If I remember correctly, the red metro artwork (by Arin Fishkin) was also used as a part of the ticket art that year. Cory & Catska Ench designed the main posters, they've also done art for the Oregon Country Fair and a few other events.

And one more trip back into the past...

First up is my favorite of all the pieces Cory & Catska Ench have done yet...

And next we get into the work of Dominic DA Tinio (whom some of you may also know as the head of playa restoration)

And then this second piece for 2014, done by Arthur 'Ratur' Maslard
