Ok I groaned a lot at that. And then read it all out to my husband who laughed gleefully. He loves puns. I try not encourage him but they make him so happy, and I guess his sense of humour is the bedrock or his personality. I just wish he didn't mine it so heavily.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
I missed corn on the cob day? Dammit Bill!
Lately we've been doing it sicilian style. The people we get our olive oil from at the farmer's market have a book of their mother's and grandmother's favorite recipes that we got from them a few years back, and got the idea from that. Rub the corn down with extra virgin olive oil and then bang it in a pan at a low or medium heat. Then toss in some herbs and use a good salt if you've got one. Any salt will do, of course, but fresh ground sea salt or anything fancier is a nice way to kick things up a notch. Then from there things can get exotic depending on mood or inebriation level. Pepper or some other kinda heat (though we don't like fiery hot), or even finishing with cheese can be nice. I never would have tried the last one on my own, but as it turns out the saltiness of a good hard italian cheese really brings out the flavor. Yum!
Damn, now I'm jonesing for corn and we've got other plans for dinner. We'll have to dial that up sometime later in the week.

Do you use an actual lime and squeeze the juice then sprinkle chili powder or lime/chili seasoning which are available.....Chalula makes it and probably McCormick.lucky420 wrote:a thin spread of mayo, lime rubbed on with chile saesoning,

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
catman, Cholula now has a lime-infused hot sauce I recommend highly. There is a brand of powdered chilis out there that has some additional seasonings added like lime and a touch of salt as well. Sprinkled on fruit, it's zesty AND YUMMY.
I steam my corn on the cob in the wok. seems to work well. Then, melted butter with Baconsalt. It works for me.

I take corn in the husk, cut the ends off and microwave 6 min. per ear, peel the hush off with silks, add butter and pepper then dip or roll in med hot salsa. The lime sounds great, will have to try it.

Oh my I feel like I've walked in on some serious Americaning! I've never heard such in depth discussion of corn! I bought two cobs for Husfreind and I the other day but we've been so busy a decent chunk of our weekly veggies are wilting before we get to them.
I shall have to get some more this week to make up for missing the special day today. I win't be cooking them myself though, I'll leave that to Husfriend, he's from Indiana so he knows his corn!

Yeah, corn is good. I'll either boil it in a pot (if at home), or soak it in water still in the husk, then lay in on a bed of hot coals and steam it in the husk until the outer husk just turns black. Either way, once it's out of the husk and silk, I put tamari (full-strength Japanese soy sauce) on it and eat. Yum.

yeah corn.......I cut mine off the cob. I don't like it between my teeth!
one of the big mistakes people make with fresh corn is over cooking. It really only needs to be hot, not "cooked". I've eaten it raw even, and it's good, if it's a good sweet ear.......

I think it is time to look for sweet corn! A little early here, I haven't seen the roadside stands yet. I like mine steamed, with S&P and ghee. I'll have to try corn with Tajin, that's the chili pepper lime shake on seasoning.

Re: The Bar 2015 Edition
Thanks Beautiful people of eplaya!
Birthdays are a big deal to me, so over time I've come up with a way to fill my day with fun.
1) make my own damn cake. This year it's chocolate mayonnaise cake w hazelnut frosting.
2) go to a restaurant I've never been to before. A new Thai restaurant opened across the street from a major strip mall. Bad location, and I wish them all the luck w building their business.
3) go to a movie that just opened. Often it's quite random (Fast & Furious? Really?). This year it's Jurassic Park.
4) buy something utterly frivolous. Some examples in the past are a iPad keyboard, a tool box and a wii game. This year it's a power tool. I'll let you know what I choose. It's looking very much like an orbital sander, but the cordless drill looks promising. There's also the battery skill saw...choices!
5) new one from a couple years may drop off this year cause I can't think of anything - do something I've never done before. Suggestions? Think cheap, doable and no traveling. And cheap!
