First burn this year, greetings from Singapore!

Post by YoBen » Sun Jun 21, 2015 7:54 pm

Hi All,

A British ex-pat, living in Singapore and heading to my first burn this year. Very excited!

Three of us are meeting in Vegas and travelling up together in an RV. Looks like we'll need to be back in Vegas by Monday, so guess we'll need to leave on Sunday?

Roll on August!

Ben

Welcome! Read notes on exodus. Depending on when you leave, the exodus can delay you quite a bit. I woukd say Sunday is good, but I wouldn't necessarily expect to be on the highway an hour after you leave camp.

Welcome
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Hi Ben! Welcome. :D

Yes, technically you could get to Vegas sometime Monday if you left sometime Sunday, but that's a little nebulous, isn't it? :) I guess it depends on when your flights are on Monday, and if the RV is owned or rented.

Things you will need to consider:

* Google maps' claim on the driving time from Vegas to Gerlach, NV. Add a couple of hours, as Google Maps assumes you will be doing 60mph. You might not.

* Allow 8 hours JUST for getting out of the city itself; i.e. from camp to highway. The line is insane. 6 hours is quite common, 7 is possible, I have heard as long as 9 hours a few years ago once. 8 hours is pretty "safe" though.

* Consider how much time it will take you to break camp, sweep for moop (leave no trace), and to clean the RV in Vegas before returning it. All that stuff can take a while.

It's a tricky equation . . .
