Hey Burners,
I am planning my arrival and departure from Burning Man.
2015 will be my first year at the desert, so I have some (many) questions... Could some body help me?
I would like to know which day of the week the MAN burns. Is the man the last art burned?
I would also like to have some color if Burning Man is still packed by Sunday or by this day most people have already left.
Thanks!

The man burns on the Saturday before Labor Day and the Temple burns the night after that. Most people leave on Monday although many people leave throughout the week and some after Monday if their camp takes a long time to pack up and deMOOP.

The Temple burns on Sunday night. Since I'm helping build it, I'd be really sad if anyone missed it! Seriously, usually a person's connection to the Temple is what makes them decide if they stay for it burning. Like if a loved one has passed away this year, or you find the structure itself especially compelling. So yeah, Monday morning is packing up time for most people. Just be mentally and physically prepared to sit in the exodus line leaving for many many hours, whether you leave anytime on Sunday or Monday. 60,000+ people on a one-lane road. It ain't pretty.

Sunday is a massive tear-down day on playa, and probably a third or more of the population is gone by Sunday night. You'll go adventuring on Sunday afternoon and discover that the structures & visual elements you were using as landmarks are gone, lots of street signs are missing as people take them (souvenirs), and it's got a definite feeling of winding down. There are still bars open, there are still parties happening, there are still things to see & do, but it's a much slower pace than the rest of the week, and it's harder to find those "still happening" elements.barca wrote:I would also like to have some color if Burning Man is still packed by Sunday or by this day most people have already left.
Temple burn can be lovely, or powerful, or overly emotional - if you want it to be. It can also be something you want to avoid - it's your Burn, you get to decide. I've had years where I couldn't miss it, I've had years where I couldn't care less, both are doing it right.

Me too except the bits I'm building won't burn.EnergyFiend wrote:The Temple burns on Sunday night. Since I'm helping build it, I'd be really sad if anyone missed it!
I should try to get over to the main build site and do a bit of that too though I guess, maybe this weekend.

Be sure to set your homepage to the countdown. It is a good way to remind yourself that preparation time is slowly fading away. It will be here before you know it and you will need to be ready.
