Invalidated Tickets

Post by dragonpilot » Tue Jun 23, 2015 2:03 pm

Did a half-assed search...missed any discussion. We've heard of tickets being invalidated due to scalping, hacking into the general sale, etc. Are substitute tickets injected into the system or have those invalidated tickets simply reduced our overall population?

I've honestly never heard what happens. My guess is that they're just removed from the total pool, since it would be an incredible pain to try to adjust for them while mailing out tickets, tracking transfers, trying to chase down scalpers, etc. This is purely speculation, however.

Nimbus (Head of Ticketing) said over on Reddit back when it first happened that they'd go into the OMG sale.

Edit - And there's this from the blog
So what about the rumors of people sneaking to the front of the line?
Unfortunately there is some truth to this. Approximately 200 people created a technical ‘backdoor’ to the sale and made their way to the front of the line. Absolutely no tickets were sold before the sale opened at 12:00 pm, but they were able to purchase the first batch of tickets when the sale started. The good news (for us, not them) is that we can track them down, and we’re going to cancel their orders. The tickets from those orders will be made available in the OMG Sale in August. Of course, steps are being taken to prevent this from happening again in future sales.

OK...great! With the limited number of tickets, it's good to know that at least some are going back in the market.

Every ticket from a voided sale goes back into the community. In the case of the ones mentioned in the blog and reddit event, those will be in the OMG sale. Other tickets from canceled/voided sales are typically fed into the STEP queue.
