Had a great weekend. Nowhere near as productive as I would have liked, but fun. And the time traveling killer robot movie was a lot of fun, as a fan of the series I thought it was one of the better ones.

Damn, it's July... I need to get jumping and kick into gear, not only for some projects around the house but for playa related stuff too. I'd rather work a little harder in July and get all the big stuff done so I can breathe a little easier heading into those last few weeks in August before we head on out into the dust.

Hello bar!

Juplaya was a blast. I only maybe nearly died once!

Visiting Frog Pond was a highlight. I hope everyone else had awesome weekends :)

Welcome back! Sounds like a fun weekend - hopefully all the high speed rut creation was done outside of the footprint of BRC.

The mounds and bumps were outside the city limits. I think we headed in the 12 o'clock direction from our camp that was at the 12 o'clock point of the trash fence and then headed kinda around the outside of the fence line in a clockwise direction to get to frog pond. I am TERRIBLE at directions though. And the ruts were definitely there before we came along, that was kinda the issue.

Chuck there's my personal Facebook album of pictures and an Imgur gallery of just playa pictures.

Only when I'm sitting :|

I'm super impressed at the colour of it, I've never had a bruise even remotely that colour before. And it's gotten darker!

Actually what was more annoying was the bump I have on my forehead between my eyes and above my right eye. It made wearing my goggles painful when the wind came in that afternoon and I winced every time I absent mindedly pushed my glasses back up my nose which it turned out was a lot until I got home and changed them for a pair that stays put. If you look really closely above my right eye right now you can see the outline of my glasses where they were smashed into my face. :|

Yeah, I can imagine that hitting a rut at speed could be a problem.... glad to hear it's nothing more than bumps/bruises. Actually, the ruts aren't so bad now that we've got a rake at camp. I'd never really thought anything about it in years past, then in 2013 there was a wet july thing and as luck had it, a really gnarly one going right down the middle of our camp's placed space. And here was me, needing the ground to be flat (like it always had been) for my slotted wood installation. We didn't have a rake and came up with a makeshift solution, then later someone told us they were a good idea for general MOOP cleanup.

Fingers crossed, everyone, hopefully this is the week we hear about camp placement :) Meanwhile, dinner tonight with a campmate to talk plans and projects...

Ha, Trilo, we arrived in BRC one year to find boot-removing mud holes scattered through our Village space, would have happily traded for some nice solids ruts at that point but at least they dried flat. Eventually.

Last time I was at a baseball game I watched the groundskeepers during the 7th inning stretch and wondered if I could rig up some kind of canvas thing like what they drag behind them to groom our Village space before we leave. I don't even know what that is but it looks better than bending over. 8)

I saw thi ssuggestion in the Facebook Theme Camp Organisers group that I thought sounded good;
last Burn we dragged a screen/piece of fence behind a box truck which really smoothed things down for us and the neighbors we helped out.

Coming down in sheets, and big hailstones too in Reno now. Outside temp dropped about 20 degrees. Yay, good sleeping tonight.

I am going to sleep good tonight regardless, but, tonight is the first in 2 weeks with no rain in the forecast here! Trees falling all over the streets, shoes that never quite dry, mosquitoes everywhere... yuk. I know y'all need it over on the left coast so I sure wish I could send it.

Dragging something lightweight is great for dealing with loose or soft earth, but what we had in 2013 was damned near stonework hehe. Someone else took the charge on that one, I think they ended up using a sledge to break down the rough stuff, then some makeshift thing or another to smooth things out.

Post event, a flat headed metal rake is a great idea for mooping (and it doesn't cost a lot). You don't simply want to smooth the place down, you want to check for little bits of detritus that gets left behind. We have few to no smokers but still find butts that blow through, and also get stuff like little plastic bits of zip ties and wood and whatnot.

Raise your glasses - placement emails have started to go out!

Just to keep it real.......IS there an Eplaya meet and greet this year?

Just curious. I really don't know.

I don't know about that. Every time I Google Image search anything to do with ePlaya, it always turns up Elliot's smiling Avatar in the image results...

I should be packing for element 11. Just not thrilled this year. Although the new venue is packed with scorpions and cacti, and reportedly the dust and wind are on a par with the best the playa can provide. Hmmm.

Scorpions & cacti? I would settle for the Gerlach health fair. Burning questions indeed.

Morning bar, long time no see! It's rainy and gray here and I had a very tough time forcing myself out of my nice comfy bed.

Happy to announce that my camp has been placed, 8:15 & D, which is just what we were hoping for. Close enough to feel like we're in the action but not so close that we can't get any sleep. Last year we were neighbors with Slutgarden and there was very little peace and quiet to be found.

Drove back across Nevada, north to south east of the Playa, looked like a lot of very large rain cells in the whole region.
