I didn't realize your silence could so easily be bought. Are you sure you wouldn't prefer backstage passes to the Laibach show in the DPRK?

Reliable source?
Maybe Aztec Warrior, if they do not honor the DMV rules this year, may have to take a timeout in 2016?

Re: EDM industry news
Maid Marian posted on their wall and asked them to take down their lineup (which they've done). She also said that BMorg is "currently creating" a policy on the issue, which will soon be posted. I don't understand how a mutant vehicle can be in violation of a policy, which has yet to be delineated. And I hope you can forgive an international group for failing to keep up with Eric's wonderful publication or for having not followed similar events surrounding White Ocean last year.
It's also seemingly ironic that White Ocean received prime real estate this year at 10 and Esplanade given their previous snafu. But, as we know, camps and mutant vehicles are entitled to a warning before being penalized for infractions.
Now, as Eric kindly pointed out, there are plenty of places around the world and in the United States to see big-name DJs. I fail to appreciate how posting a lineup early will cause all of Ibiza to empty out and crash the OMG sale. But, I guess that's neither here nor there. If the Org clearly communicates to camps when and how they should post their lineups, I think that's fair. Obviously, the Rockstar Librarian hasn't broken any rules yet, so there is a time and place for sharing lineups before the event.

There are many on this board who think dance camps & MV are God, some intermediate, some who like dancing - but think the emphasis, numbers, downside and locations can be reduced, some who are non-plussed at dance music genres and some who think EDM is the devil and should be flamed to extinction. Me, I'm in the middle.
If a dance camp is not on the playa in year 20xx, because they violate placement or MV agreements, the good DJs who want to be there will find a home. Every slot on 2 and 10 is going to be filled. Because there are camps waiting in line to be better at MOOP, better at minimizing bad club behavior and having more burnier camps!
I cannot support camps and MVs as victims.

Re: EDM industry news
They did apologize: "
"Marian and the community: First let us apologize for this... Clearly a misunderstanding and a mistake on our end. The Mayan Warrior group is a little disconnected from the interworking of the official Burning Man Project given we're mostly in Mexico City and there's a language barrier to deal with. It was posted purely out of love for the music and passion to connect with people that love this music. Once we realized it was a mistake... we removed all the content possible and we will not repeat the mistake. Discontinued! We hope we can use this as an opportunity to connect and work further with BM and the community. We are at the community's disposal and we wish no harm to the environment we love so much and call home. This is a situation of, we didn't know and we feel horrible if it caused any harm. With good intentions and love from our entire group: We are really sorry.""
On one hand - these are guys with serious money and serious time throwing a ton of effort behind a unique project. This isn't just some regular ol bus with an LED heart on top and a sound system and a distinct lack of mutation. If you've never gone up to the Mayan Warrior, check that beauty out. It's incredibly well built and well done, painted by a really awesome psychedelic artist on the face, awesome lighting... It's a cool piece of the nightlife, IMO.
On the other hand, they (pretty blatantly) broke a (relatively new) rule, AND their bus is well known in EDM circles. That thing has been to EDC twice, even!
I think it's worth giving them a harsh warning. Chances are, due to the language barrier (from Mexico) and maybe due to not reading every forum and message board dedicated to Burning Man out there, they might not have known about the rule. Telling a group of people who have spent years building and working on a really cool thing to, essentially give away to the masses, whether or not you agree with it's purpose, to not come because they violated one fuzzy not-well-published (Afaik) rule once... rubs me a bit of the wrong way.
I think it is unfair for sound camps of any kind to expect special treatment just because they are popular. But it's also unfair to totally disbar a group of people who have basically "done it right" for awhile for one mistake. I mean, El Pulpo Mechanico came with a totally unmutated base car for a few years, and nobody was upset about that, because the rest of it was awesome. Let's try to be nicer!

Hi Ano, Answer this: Is the Mayan Warrior committed to purchase a type 0 or 1 accuracy sound level meter and measure sound levels? And can they guarantee that the DJ mixer on through to the PA engineer adhere to the DMV committed levels?

It was broadcast far beyond our little rag, I just figured if someone's going to do an actual screen grab from our paper they could at least mention us.Bless wrote:And I hope you can forgive an international group for failing to keep up with Eric's wonderful publication or for having not followed similar events surrounding White Ocean last year.
The White Ocean list was one of last years pre-playa kerfuffles, and the Org seemed serious about stopping it (since any advertising of the EDM camps makes us more of a music fest in the eyes of the Legislature, therefore higher taxes). This dust-up is relatively small in the full buffet of kerfuffles we've had since last years Burn ended.

Simon, looks like you called it - a "DMZ" (dance music zone?) for musical mutant vehicles to blast their tunes out in deep playa with portapotties nearby

Why does the Boston Bombers last name start with TSA and have NRA in it?
Should I say something here about how that works?
The people have voted they dislike disruption.
I intend.

Re: EDM industry news
Those stories make me sad.
It's amazing what a little bit of harm reduction knowledge will do for safety. It's also amazing what kind of things people try to pass off as "good shit" - which means these kids are taking weird doses of weird things. A kid who is used to taking two - three doses in order to "get going" who suddenly gets an entirely differently dosed batch with no real way to tell, takes two to "get going" and suddenly finds themselves absolutely floored. Or, someone is allergic to some kind of BS substance that these guys use as "filler" to make their stuff look more potent (because the capsule is fuller).
I guarantee these two individuals are the victims not of their own stupidity, but of a culture that doesn't allow them to practice their activities in a safe manner. I know it might be popular here to make fun of the folks who go to these events and embark upon these ridiculous evenings - but this shit just makes me really really sad. There needs to be a culture shift where people aren't demonized for these things, and where practicing harm reduction is the cool thing to do. Having access to a testing kit, it's amazing what some people will try to pass off as another substance nowadays. There are also tons of instances where a testing kit won't save you... say, with certain things that go on a blotter. You can't ever really be sure, but if it's 16 hours later and you're still seeing funny colors, chances are you got ripped off. And it's not even necessarily your "guys" fault, he thought it was something else too.. etc...
Be safe, folks. I could rant about the sad state of affairs for hours. Like I always do.

We are starting a wave of decriminalization, which will lead or lag by region. It simply costs too much money to criminalize everything. Most of what we see in the news is pure PR, but the body politic ignores.

I'm not the most informed EDM fan, I don't even know when the "Festival Season" is. Now, this aspiring DJ is the internet porn star not married to kanye, right?
It is great that she is going. Once there, I am sure, she will be transformed and enlightened and blah blah blah radical blah blah blah (fill in your own hippie bullshit here).
Maybe she will bring her chill bro!
And then when she does that highly skilled and creative ipod playing (obviously, look, she can do it) there will be the feebs full of gratitude describing it as her gift to us.
