shame on you Millionaire Camp

Post by LadyMudBunny » Tue Jul 21, 2015 9:59 am

long time lurker and burner, first time poster. i saw this on the placement and the internet and couldn't take it anymore. really? advertising a millionaire camp? segway parking? wristbands? shame on you.

this is not the beautiful vision i thought we were all creating together when i started coming out here way back in 2007. i heard about this 'sherpa' thing and k-street in the news, but i didn't actually see it at all on the playa. and here you are advertising in our faces? and with pricing??? what about non-commidification and radical self-reliance? i'm sure millionaires are "busy" people, but i work two jobs and still managed to make a makeshift foam yurt to radically self-rely in walk-in last year. you could do this too! its not hard to radically self-rely for once!

all i can say is i'm very sad :( about what is happening i was hoping to maybe bring out an art piece or something in the future but this kind of stuff just stifles my creativity and makes me question what our beloved event is becoming.

with light,
LMb

I'm sorry that you completely missed the satirical nature of that camp schtick. It's a gag.

I'm pretty sure those are the people they're making fun of LadyMudBunny. I think maybe their satire is a little hard to read in internet posts, but if you look at their stuff, there's enough random silly ridiculousness to push it into clear satire (ie, the bottle disposal fee and cork disposal fee and the wire basket disposal fee). :)

And really, if you're concerned, you should totally go up to their camp on playa and introduce yourself and get in on what sounds like a good deal of silliness.

I think this camp is doing it 100% right and I can't wait to hug them all, after paying the appropriate fee of course.

LadyMudBunny, OMG! I sooooo agree!

They are tricking newbie Burners like me into thinking that Segways are cool out there by providing free parking for them. Of course, I had already bought one thinking it was going to be sooooo cool for Burning Man, and now I'm trying to figure out if I should bring it at all

Someone needs to stop them. Does anyone know about a burning man customer support site where I can complain?

I have heard people in the past refer to Barbie Death Camp & Wine Bistro as a "millionaire's camp". I was not offended.

I know! Who do these new minions think they are? Did you not explain that as a newbie it is his JOB to charge mine and have it ready for me?

So, do we need a $100,000 bill (or candy bar) as a ticket to get into their camp?

You'd need at least ten, but remember they don't count if they get all melty, so you'd better keep them on ice ;)

Of course, maybe I'm the fool here if the outrage post was part of the schtick too, in which case they are REALLY doing it right!!

I sort of suspect you're right, Captain Goddammit. Or at least there's even odds of some prankster type laughing their ass off at this, or some poor soul who is seriously confused about the ratio of curmudgeons, oddities, and aforementioned pranksters to peace/love, positive energy, and candy coated rainbow-farting unicorns. But hey, playing along is half the fun.

ok, sorry, i guess i somehow got worked up and missed the satire. i should have known from the wire disposal fee whatever that is, it couldn't actually be that expensive for a bit of wire, it's easy to pack it in, pack it out.

really though this problem is almost too serious to even joke about.

@VacuumTornado you should definitely leave your segway at home, unless you do some good decoration on it. but it would be easy to find places to park it cause the playa is big and if it looks cool nice camps would maybe even let you plug it in. its ok to be a newbie, even i was one once!

I'm moving this thread over to Open Discussion. Millionaire Camp, for those unfamiliar, is being perpetuated as a gag by members of a long-running theme camp that has placement at 3:45 and Esplanade.
