Give Thanks!

Wherever you are, whatever you are doing. Stop and take a moment. Give it with humility. Be sincere. No Whining or complaining allowed. Mean what you say and say what you feel.

It dawned on me, after years of bitching and moaning about how rough and unfair life was.... that every day, after Vietnam, was a precious gift to me. All I have to do is unwrap it and appreciate it. I have, since that day, tried to face each day with Joy and Thanksgiving.

I am very thankful for all of you on the ePlaya... You have made my life this last year very wonderful and filled with Joy. And for all of you, a Samtzu Group Hug©

Bambi, good to read you. I'll be thankful for that.

I'm thankful that I found the love I needed. I am thankful for the ability to create. I am thankful that there are no men with guns trying to kill me. I am thankful that I've never ever really had to wonder where the next meal was coming from. I am thankful for the wet heavy snow that fell yestersday. I am thankful for the playa and the eplaya and the 3playa. I am thankful for my health and robust vitality. I am thankful that I can finally be friends with my parents. i am thankful that my little brother lives in the same town. I am thankful that we live in interesting times. I am thankful for the ability to question.

Thanks!

To Be Thankful

Post by phoenix13 » Wed Nov 24, 2004 11:50 am

Though this time is usually a bit rough,
There is always something to be thankful for.
I am thankful for the fact that I breath,
I exist.
I am thankful for humanity,
As flawed as it is,
That we all exist.
I am thankful because regardless of all the bad shit in my life right now,
That postive vibes are still coming my way.
I am thankful for my sense of spiritual being.
I am thankful for my friends.
I am thankful for my loved ones.
I am thankful that we all have such a wondrful place to converge,
Even if it's for such a brief moment in time.
I'm thankful that I have this place,
A place where everyone thoughts, and words, and points of view are equally valid.
I am thankful for many things.
And I will always be thankful for the lives we all have.
And in time we will all burn and become a new.

I am thankful for (in no particular order):

a sleeping baby
hot tea
friendships
getting to be in a show
my cats
being able to keep busy
my family
being just wise enough to see what all I have to be thankful for
It's all about the squirrels.

I am thankful that I have a place to run to (e-playa) when life gets too crazy.
I am thankful for the roof over my head and it being owned by my best friend.
I love my dogs Ricky and Spike, and am thankful for their companionship.
I am thankful for the family I was born into, but most thankful for the extended family I am now a part of.
I am thankful for my job that allows me to be creative.
I am thankful for all the freaks in my life, and hopefully achieving that status.
I am thankful for the diverse friendships I have forged this year, and thankful for the diverse roads they have helped me to travel.
I am thankful for having had so many people who are no longer here in my life, but being able to move forward in spite of those losses. Iam thankful for the momentum built by the experiences I've had with them, and that carrying me when I don't feel like doing the work myself.
I am thankful that this is a safe place to be thankful.
I love you guys.

not to be spamming with my 'year in review' shit but this is essentially what i wrote on thanksgiving last year.

it still teaches me a lot about simplicity and being thankful for the little things:
Today I give thanks...

For only a few jeeps in the village.
For friends who welcome with open arms.
For finding a gift for a child that is not a gun.
For knowing we are not alone.
For only a few people detained at the checkpoint.
For youth who throw stones.
For a night without dreams of the army.
For family, new and old.
For a bullet around my neck, not in it.
For fleeting joy in a child's eyes.
For a spirit that will not be killed.
this year, in addition to what i posted earlier, i think i am most thankful for laughter, for growth, and for healing. without those things i wouldn't be here with you all.

i'm thankful that there is a segment of the population that has similar interests in camping, art, ecclectic satire, tequila, and *other* that i and my dear friends share.

i am thankful for being adopted by the people that bought me. (that's where dirtbiking comes in).

i am thankful for my wife. a person way better than myself. truly out of my league.

i am thankful for my BM people.

I am thankful to be alive and that Burning Man exists. It's my one true home where I can truly be me.

And I am thankful for all the wonderful people in my life. I love you all. Everyone, even the people I haven't met yet.

A couple years back, I was at my mom's back east for Thanksgiving, and she started a tradition of everyone at the table giving thanks, for something good in their lives. I will say now (and add to it) what I did then:

I give thanks for my abundant good health. For as much as I have abused and neglected my body, it has still given me years of yeoman service, and faithfully transported me on many an ill-advised adventure.

I give thanks for my friends, especially my dear friend Karen who passed away suddenly this past August. Without your friends, you operate in a vacuum, and all you do has no resonance, and no echoes.

I give thanks for places like this, and people like this, even tho we don't agree politically on practically anything. I give thanks for this country, where you can hold any political view, any at all, and still the police don't come and kick your door down and send you to a "re-education camp".

And finally, I give thanks that we are at peace, and that I don't have to worry about my house being blown up or set on fire.
