Arriving with handicap vehicle

This will be our third burn.

My wife has difficulty getting around, and simply can NOT ride a standard two wheeled bike. The first year (2013) I brought a "pedicab" fitted with an electric motor, which worked well until the battery charger died, and the back-up system was woefully inadequate.

Last year I brought the pedicab and a trike, both fitted with electric motors. They both died within the first two days.

This year my wife feels that she will have even more difficulty with a trike, so we decided to apply for a handicap permit to bring a suitable vehicle. The permit was approved, and we have the email "license".

The instructions are very clear with respect to DMV: The email is permission to drive the vehicle from our camp to the DMV, where it will be inspected, and we need to have a copy of the email, the handicap person, photo ID, and the regular state issued handicap placard. No problem.

What isn't clear is getting the vehicle into Burning man, at the gate.

Will just a copy of the email be sufficient, or does my wife need to accompany it through the gate? We will be arriving early to set up a theme camp, but the transportation for the handicap vehicle won't be until the gates open to the public.

For the record, we are using an off road vehicle, a Polaris Rzr 800, as the handicap vehicle. We will decorate it some, and adorn it with lots of lights, but it won't become a full mutuant.

That is all that is required at gate.

Have the e-mail and everything ready to go at the Gate. When you get there, let them know, and show them the e-mail and any other documentation you have. Be open and up-front, have it all ready, and it will go smoothly AND quickly!

I have hauled in a disabled vehicle for use on playa by someone other than myself something like 5 times. Have all your paperwork and ticket in hand prior to making contact with Gate. The invite that DMV sends your wife is the appropriate paperwork for getting through gate. I always made duplicates and put one on the disabled vehicle in an envelope for redundancy.
